Champion Concept: Ogon, the Eternal Guardian

Ýones·3/9/2017, 4:19:14 PM·11 votes·2,591 views

Dwelling silently in the realms of death, the Eternal Guardian watches the events of the mortal world. The elders tell of ages past, when during The Shroud the mighty spirit defended Ionia from the spectres released from the Black Mist. Many doubt these legends, but when undead forces strike for you, Ogon steers the dead's balance from annihilation.

A man can cry out in blood to have his loved one alive again, but Ogon only lights life to the souls of those who have made the most out of their life, and have something yet to seek in their path. Armed with a Soulrock that collects the essence of the dead, Ogon inspires the people of Valoran to seek adventure so they would get another chance before the bitter end.

Ogon is a spirit who has been living ever since people have known death. Gonna be honest: not the best champ. He's got potential, but right now he's too all over the place.

Let's start with the lore: First off: I recommend removing the kindred pics. Given our knowledge of Runeterra, it should be well known who death is. In addition, Kindred is never referred to as "the death." They have many names, but are never a singular entity. Death cannot be a plural. Basically, Lore is too focused on another champ, doesn't give Ogon his own space to be his own character.

Abilities:

Passive: does he lose the stacks? what makes this different from Karma mantra being on a passive?

Q: This is just a bit too similar to Rengar Q in terms of how it's used. I suggest changing how the skillshot works, making it more of a cone thing, or having it do something besides a slow. It's not the most original Q, as it just has Rengar's q but with utility instead of damage. With the bonus, that's a pretty over the top move. Yes, other champs have roots on basic abilities, but they basically only get to root one or two at a time. This guy could root an entire team, forcing them into a death they could have countered, but he'd hit too many spells.

In addition, lower the scaling on his slows. A 50% slow at level one is too much. Yes, darius has a 90% one, but again, it only affects one person. Not an entire team. Come teamfighting phase, this ability would be too hard to counter.

W: I actually got no problems here. I'm not a balance master, but this seems like a fair ability to me.

E: To be blunt: this needs to be changed entirely. Yes, it puts you in stasis, but it's invisible, which means it's much harder to counter. Not only that, but he can put three down that have no time limit, and he gets a big stasis with it modified. Not fun to play against.

R: This is just a Zilean ult but better. What reason would anyone ever have to pick Zilean if this guy existed?

Overall, he could be a lot better. His biggest problem is how just by doing normal stuff, he basically gets to shut down entire teams. Going against this guy would obligate every team to have cleanse to escape his roots, need to build movespeed to stand a chance against his slows, and no matter how fast they run, the entire team can get stuck in stasis while your team storms down the lane. Not to mention that, even if they manage to take one of your guys down, you can just drag them back up with a superior chronoshift.

I know you're probably going to ignore this, but I wanted to put in my two cents. (that's the phrase, right?)

Well, lore-wise he's in a bad spot due to having a function very similar to Kindred. Being essentially their lackey, he doesn't really stand out on his own very well.

And if he did once fall in love with Kindred, how did that work? Did he love them both or did he think of one of them as more a friend?

Moving onto gameplay, I can't see anybody actually playing Ogon in a supportive fashion. He's basically very similar to other poke/sustain supports like Nami, Sona, or Lulu, except that duo lanes involving him lose early due to how bad his level 1 is and how long it would take to build up his soul count, and he doesn't really bring much that could amaze anyone as a support except for his ult.

His ult being poorly designed, unfortunately. See, due to the way his ultimate works, he shouldn't ever be getting it off in a fight, or after a fight his team has lost. It's purely a win-more button for after his team has already won, punishing enemies even more for losing while offering his team no strong benefit until victory's already been obtained.

Now, how would he be played? AD! :D With his absurdly stupid permanent movespeed enhancement while attacking and ability to move while attacking, he'd just be built like an adc and proceed to kite everyone forever if they don't have a dash. The poor scaling and utility functionality of his kit means he doesn't lose anything at all for not building like a proper support.

So, uh... Probably remove that part of the passive (I know you wanted him to have more oomph without using souls, maybe try just giving his basic attacks a periodic boost that comes more quickly if he absorbs souls), replace his current ultimate with something that lets him stand out more in battle, and give him a new E while letting him absorb souls without sacrifice a whole basic ability for it. His current Q and W are fine in that they force him to think either defensively or offensively, but attaching his entire mechanic to his E makes his kit suffer both in that he's very weak without his basic skills, and he essentially dumps a whole basic ability just to upkeep his mechanic.

Mind doing me a solid sometime and review Ryka please? Thanks!

Just a short update about his current and future changes;

  • Q: A 50-70% slow for flat 1.5 seconds to enemies in the center was indeed pretty over the top, given that it was 50% at level one. It is now 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80% decaying rabidly over 1.5 seconds, because the slow basically has a 1 second delay.

  • Additionally, snare duration reduced to 0.75 / 1.5 seconds.

  • E: Likely will be rewamped.

  • R: Channel is now disrupted when taking damage.

  • Lore: I removed most Kindred picks.

I wonder: did you base a few of your ideas on Auriel from HOTS?

Because the q and the ult remind me of her.

Another update for all changes done to Ogon:

  • Passive, Q and E got a complete overhaul and now fit his theme better as the "collector of souls".
  • Passive: Now Ogon sees souls of nearby dead enemies, and frees them using Q and W.
  • Q: Fires a blast that slows enemies hit and deals escalating damage based on souls collected. *E: Collects all souls in a rectangular path, granting himself mana for each soul collected.

OK this overall is a nice idea. Instead of Thresh being the only champion with a soul concept you find a new way to apply it. What i don't understand is that your q and w use collected souls but you skill those up first. It raised questions in my head as it wasn't very clear. Do they need souls to cast these spells or do they just enhanced them. From what i understand from q's description you need a soul to send flying at the enemy. Is e an ability that helps you gather like thresh lantern, or is it just an ability that is the only way for souls to come to you. I made a champion that utilized souls too and i love passives that tie the kit together like Evelynn and is not an add on like Ahri. My concept is " Odin, Will of the Mist ". You can check it out and ill be happy if it inspires you more. Keep it up.[slayer-jinx-catface]

As some of you might have noticed, I reworked his R because Resurrection was way too hard to balance.

Trenitaliyah3/9/2017, 4:34:19 PM1 votes

He's a mixture of all the champs put together. He looks like Kindred, he has Thresh's passive, his ulti is Zilean + Shen's, etc.

Please be original.

i like how much effort you put into it but it doesnt belong in the league universe. there are already too many random loose ends and i dont want to make up some kind of connection between the isle and kindred.

besides that i dont like the playstyle. you've taken thresh, karthus, sona, and bard and combined them and then thrown URF into his R. it's a bit silly.

8 on creativity

2 on usability

The design of the champion is way too similar to bard's in my opinion
