#Short Lore
A weapon once contracted for war and built by Piltover for Demacia as an intelligent remote infiltrator, the project known as NM-8 was cancelled, thrown out once the Piltovians understood the underlying AI matrix was similar in build to Blitzcrank. Fearing its potential and the terror it could bring should it achieve full sentience, they did their best to shut it down and disable it. Due to the kindness of one of the researchers, however, it reawakened a short while

Every 30/25/20 seconds, NM-8 gains a charge of Sentinel Charge. NM-8 leaves a Sentinel Charge in bushes he walks into. Only 1 charge can be placed per bush, and last 2 minutes. If an enemy champion walks into the bush, the charge detonates after 0.5 seconds, dealing 20 (+10*level) (+0.3 AP) magic damage and slows enemies hit by 30% for 2 seconds.

NM-8 fires two bolts in opposing arcs which converge on a location. The size of the arc depends on the location that is targeted, though the bolts will always remain in flight for 0.4 seconds. Enemies hit by bolts take 20/30/40/50/60 (+0.2 AP) damage. If a bolt in flight hits a champion , it will prematurely detonate, causing them to take 20/30/40/50/60 (+0.2 AP) magic damage. Upon reaching the targeted location, the bolts will detonate, each dealing 40/60/80/100/120 (+0.4 AP) magic damage. Champions who take damage from more than one bolt detonating takes 50% damage from the second bolt.
Firing an E-62 Suppression Rocket at a Sentinel Charge or Cyberghast will force it to detonate instantly.
Cooldown: 5/4/3/2/1 Mana: 30 Range: 1000 Projectile Speed:2500 Projectile Width: 80 Detonation Radius: 250
Notes:
- This ability does not have a cast time.

Passive: After 3 seconds of not having an enemy champion closer than 400 range, NM-8 gains 10/12.5/15/17.5/20% movement speed..
Active: NM-8 pulses twice per second for the next 3/4/5/6/7 seconds, which reveals the form of all nearby enemies (think Red Trinket and stealth champs). The image will linger until the pulse updates itself. This field can locate invisible units.
Cooldown: 30 Range: 2000 Mana: 50
Notes:
- Enemy champions located will show up as red blotches on the minimap.

NM-8 deploys a controllable ball of overcharged energy that detonates after 2 seconds, dealing 80/125/170/215/260 (+0.8 AP) magic damage, marks minions with Override, silences enemies hit for 2 seconds .
Minions marked with Override retain the mark for 10 seconds. If they are killed, NM-8 instead overrides them, creating a Cyberghast with 3 health (max 1 damage per attack taken) and explode on death after 0.25 seconds to deal 60/80/100/120/140 (+0.3 AP) magic damage. This is increased by 50% against minions.
Cooldown: 24/23/22/21/20 Mana: 80/90/100/110/120 Ball Speed: 1000 Leash Radius: 1500
Notes:
- Cyberghasts are one-shot by towers.
- The ball is controlled by E and left clicking on a location.
- If a Cyberghast is detonated by E-62 Suppression Rocket, it will detonate instantly
- Cyberghasts will march down lanes once created.

Deploys an electromagnetic trap that activates after 0.5 seconds, dealing 100/160/220 (+0.6 AP) magic damage to all targets hit. Targets who are in the area of the trap are grounded, forcibly decloaked and are unable to enter Camoflauge or Invisibility. The trap lasts for 1 second. At the end of the duration, all units are drawn to the center, dealt 50/80/110 (+0.3 AP) magic damage and are knocked up for 1.5 seconds.
Range: 1200 Projectile Speed: 2400 Radius: 400 Cooldown: 120/100/80 Mana: 100

#Extended Lore
“You couldn’t possibly assume-“
“I must. You know I must”, came the reply. Through the tone, Aria knew she could do nothing to change the mind of Doctor Somnus. He was persistent, she thought, watching his breath fog up in the crisp air.
The air was cool and drafty, the cold air seeping through the glass. The room itself was spartan in design, a few desks and chairs layered everywhere, a few more papers lying around, blackboards with complex equations scrawled upon them. Most of them she ignored, for Aria had seen them far too many times before. But it was the letter before her that concerned her now.
“When did you receive this?”, she asked, her tone curious, yet laden with a hint of suspicion. “It just seems…so convenient.”
“This morning. I was as surprised as you were – though given the circumstances, it’s appropriate. It is not every day that science is something that interests the common man”, he replied.
“And when it does….the whole world marvels. They have created life. They have accepted it as such. Life in a mechanical body. They have beaten us. They have even given it a name, or one it has ‘chosen’ for itself. ‘Blitzcrank’, it is called. But the issue lies with who discovered it. Them. The enemy. Zaun. But I ask this. Why? Why now? Why cancel the project at this point when we are just about ready to turn in? With Zaun’s ties to Noxus, it would not be beyond belief that they would sell – permit it to be used. It is at this time that our project would be needed more than ever.”
“Of course, Professor Aria. As project leader I defer completely to you. But similarly, as your liason with the Demacian military, I must also inform you of decisions which I have had no part in making. Please, do not shoot the messenger.”
She straightened up, a hint of anger in her voice. “And for what? I, and I alone have always been the head of my field. I will not have what is rightfully mine – the glory of such a discovery be held. It is only by your and your delay alone – the pointless additions, the insistence on testing far beyond what would be considered necessary….”
“Professor, with the utmost respect…you wouldn’t have released this version to the general public-”
“What?” She was almost surprised at the stupidity Somnus was showing, but then again, she thought, all those raised in, and by the military, to some extent, showed the same symptoms. It was unfortunate, but she would have to bear it only so much longer. “Of course I wouldn’t. A…tamer version, as it were, much more civilian in design than the recon specs you required. But still. A marvel to behold. My marvel.”
She paused. “You will still be funding the laboratory, I presume? There are yet many advances to be made in this field. We can shape wonders powered by hextech and magic, ones which Runeterra has never seen.”
Somnus coughed, the sound punctuating the still air. “Therein lies…the second matter. Perhaps the more concerning one. We can no longer afford to fund advanced research…in fact it has been decreed that we are to focus on…traditional values.”
Aria suppressed a smirk. “Traditional values? The way forward is the future, Mister Somnus.” She would, no, could not refer to him as a doctor any longer. His disdain for science, the advances it brought, the lives it changed and improved, had all disqualified him from the post. She continued, an air of confidence upon her. Would it truly fall to her, Professor Carolina Aria, to educate this man on the virtues of advancement? Perhaps she thought, if I had the time. She continued. “You cannot afford to turn back the clock. Of course, you may always try, but it is as futile as commanding the seas to your will. Only fools and half-wits would attempt such a preposterous task. It is unfortunate that this honor has now fallen to you.”
“It is not a complete rejection of your person, Professor. We only require take the items into custody. We understand the heritage of your father, his roots within our great city-state, and we would certainly aid you in searching for other things – your condition perhaps. It would benefit very much from your insight into such a predicament.” She could see him becoming ever more flustered with each passing word, reaching, trying, grabbing for a hold, to reconnect a tie severed too sharply. The compliment first, to smooth over the gravity of the situation. But also the acknowledgement of her situation. They still believed that it could be fixed. Naïve, of course, but hope was powerful. Overly, perhaps.
“It is the culmination of my life’s work. If not the additions that have been made, then the ideas that lie at its core. The algorithms, the cycles. My condition should have left me for dead years ago. It has only been my fervor, my passion for this project that has sustained me. Indulge me this scenario then. If you take away that which sustains one beyond even a fatal reach, what are you left with?”
“Surely you wouldn-“
“In jest, of course. Despite all your discipline, you have never learned when it is appropriate to laugh, or, at the very least, to entertain. Unfortunate really. A lost gift.”
“Of course, but on the matter at hand, we must be able to confirm the removal of Project NM-8.”
“You mean to destroy it? ‘Tis surely cruel. But I will handle it. So has it been given life by one such as I, so will I be the one who takes it. You will wish to confirm it, of course. Have your men here by 9 tomorrow. If they wish to witness such a procedure, so they might.”
She could see the relief spread over the face of Somnus, the tense features now relaxing as he could see her cave into the demands. “Of-of course. We will be punctual. We wish only cooperation, goodwill, of course. Nothing sinister.”
“Is there anything else?”
“No – you have already been very generous, very giving. I – we thank you for that.”
Aria could hear the footsteps as they left the door, the sound echoing in her mind. She had of course, planned for this uncertainty, the possibility of such an event occurring. She had understood the aftermath that would presumably branch out as a result, the paths all converging into one. They did not understand that the ailment was consuming her much faster than they had believed, and that soon she would lie dying as many others who suffered would, their last days those of agony and misery. She could not – would not permit that to happen to her. After all her work, all her gifts, all that she had contributed, Aria knew she deserved much better than that. If nature did not intend a quick end, she would bring one about herself.
She looked to the phone, wondering if the receptionist was still there. “Trisha?”
There was an answer. “Yes, madam professor?”
“I…I understand you have been working very hard. Overly hard, for the hours I have imposed on you. You have been granted the rest of the day off.”
“O-of course.”
“Any outstanding issues can be left until tomorrow. There is no point in you working longer hours if the quality of said work falls in turn.”
Professor Aria could almost hear the confined joy in the girl’s voice. To be young again…, she thought, to not have lost myself in science, to have lived the young, innocent, fun life. It was not – never had been meant to be. What she had done, had created was far greater than what she could possibly have imagined.
She turned now to the table that lay next to her, the sedate metal form that rested upon it, and gazed upon it. What beauty – what excellence in style and form. It was far too much to have it taken by brutes, for that was what they truly were, no matter how civilised their guise.
“NM-8”, she said. “Directive – Activate”
A set of lights began to glow upon its chest, the eyes turning a bright crimson. It got up slowly, the metal limbs finding footing, clumsy at first, though elegant in the finish. It sat up, and looked at her, the form of metal mimicking that of a wolf. It nodded, indicating its acceptance of her authority. “Directive – Override. Search for purpose, a meaning to your existence. Do not cease until objective has been achieved. Above all, allow no other to possess you.”
She could see the whirring in the cogs and gears, the sparking of electricity as she could feel the circuits hum and drive behind this concept she had introduced. She had had her own doubts on the possibility of its success. But, like many things, it had been her work, and she would not fail, least of all herself. As it turned to leave, she smiled.
It padded slowly, the soft metal pads that made up its paws clinking gently against the metal. She watched it all the way, and was surprised to see it look back as if in confirmation. She nodded though, and it matched her, looking away as it too padded away.
Looking back to the stretch window which encompassed the entirety of the outer labs, she watched the sun set in all its glory, its piercing orange rays highlighting the floor beneath her feet. She wondered about the beauty of the natural world, the way that man had worked upon it. The mistakes that had been made, and the prices paid. Aria enjoyed these few moments she had of tranquillity and peace, what few there had been, what few she had left. This one had been interrupted only by an adjutant, albeit by her request. A quick one for sure, for there was little more she now required. And she watched as the sun set beneath the great skyscrapers that characterised the scene of Piltover, and that of the mountains which lay beyond the lake. She watched.
As the last of the rays had fallen beneath the edge of the horizon, she would still be watching. On and on and on. Even as the roar of a controlled explosion tore through the laboratory, the heat clashing with the sharp, cool winds of the night. The force that threw her, the winds cool, rushing, almost soothing. She could see the fire, the burning, here, there, now that which encompassed her field of view. But she did not care. For she too, was free at last.
