NOTE


The purpose of this little example is not to solely promote this one champion concept, but to inspire conversation regarding the potential of this attempt to alter the ability mechanic. To any that read, please do leave different ideas or suggestions regarding what can be done with this or ways to improve such a concept or even a champion idea that can truly benefit from an altered version of this idea shown(in the event you make a champion concept with this idea, do leave the link to this thread so you don't have to type all this...it took WAY too long). PROPOSITION/IDEA


While innovation in the form of champions with 7 abilities has been introduced, I have always found it wanting a bit more. The Idea is this: A champion who, every 6 Levels, gains a point similar to how Khazix can "evolve" an ability, but since it is every 6 points, one can upgrade all 3. A normal Q should have various options should it not? considering how RIOT is trying to create Omni-Champions (All role Champions). Here is an Example:

Q: Bolero of Wrath - Empowers Ranos's next auto-attack within 6 seconds to deal 30/60/90/120/150 (+.5 of bonus AD) (Yes I stole numbers from Talon, but didn't add a bleed effect so I could up the scaling dmg) UPGRADE 1: Empowers next 3 auto-attacks (each hit resetting duration of the effect and having slightly less damage than the original) ULT UPGRADE: Numbers that the damage is to apply are increased slightly (+10? I DON'T KNOW) UPGRADE 2: Adds an attack-speed effect that has a lesser damage than it's original form, but lasts until the duration ends (6 sec.) ULT UPGRADE: Numbers that the damage is to apply are increased to the amount of the original ability. UPGRADE 3: Ranos swings his blade powerfully into one direction, causing its damage to dissipate the further it goes, but allows it to be a ranged ability that is stronger depending on how close the enemy is. ULT UPGRADE: Range and damage are increased.

Unfortunately when you level up to 6 you will have to chose which of the 3 Core abilities will have to be augmented, and you may ONLY choose one of the 3 options per Core ability, but the options are suited for burst assassins, junglers/tower pushers, and even a supporting role. Is this not the "Player play preference" RIOT is always saying they wish to promote?

While this alone will spark much controversy, I am afraid I will add more before this night is out. The Champion I will propose will be a guideline for the idea I seek to make happen, but is still (I believe) a serious request to consider Ranos as a real Champion. Ranos has no ultimate. Well, that isn't entirely true. Imagine an icon that has 3 marks within it, all gray. The Ultimate is also a choice of personal preference, which will change depending on how you dedicate another point (an Ultimate Point) if you will. Every 6 Levels you may have the option to change Ranos's Q W or E with an upgraded form if it, but will be given an additional point aswell. This "Ultimate Point" will color in one of the 3 marks in your Ultimate Slot with the color of the upgraded ability (Bolero of Wrath would be Red) which would allow you to use it in its Stage 1 form. The Ultimate Point also provides a bonus to your selected Ability Path, though it can only provide one bonus. Keep in mind that I did say that there were 3 Ultimate Points as well, but unlike the Upgrade Points, these can be applied once, twice, or thrice on an ability to color the ultimate to your desires. While you may lose the minor Ultimate Point bonuses for the other ability paths, you will gain a formidable ability worthy of being called an "Ultimate" Also note that there is a poll at the bottom of the page allowing you to vote if you don't want to deeply dissect and discuss this concept in other champions.

Now the example of this concept in a champion (LONG):

Ranos, The Blade Dancer

Passive: Runic Blood Steel - Ranos's blade is forged from a mythical metal called Runic Blood Steel. Every 100 minion/monster kills, champion kill, or 2 assists increases all of Ranos's base stats by (unspecified amount).

W: Ballet of Guile - Ranos extends his blade forward, dashing in the targeted direction damaging anything he comes in contact with (goes through targets) and at the end of the dash spins his blade twice in place where he stops.. Successfully hitting an enemy with the double spin reduces the enemy(s) armor and healing effects for 2 seconds.

UPGRADE 1: The range of the dash is increased as well as when it hits, it can slow for 1 second. ULT UPGRADE: Armor and healing effects are reduced even further and upon hitting an enemy champion, the enemy is STUNNED for .5 seconds. UPGRADE 2: Low blows. In trade for slightly reduced damage and range, the enemy will be stunned for a moment only to be met with the subsequent hits of the challenge which slow the target, preventing an easy escape. A semi-melee ability that involves slashing at the opponent's legs (stacks 3 times). NOTE that this will replace the double spin, but will augment your own abilities when you hit. ULT UPGRADE: The slow of the subsequent hits can stack 5 times and will last longer. UPGRADE 3: Ranos has mastered the art of deception in combat and can successfully taunt an opponent into believing him to be vulnerable while he gains increased armor and magic resistance. After a successful double spin, the enemy believes you to have gone all in and will fight instead of running. (Taunts only one person that gets double slashed, yet slows the others) ULT UPGRADE: Ranos can now fool 2 opponents into going after him in his presumably "vulnerable state" and gains more armor and magic resistance depending on the opponent's AD and AP.

Again: No Idea)

E: Waltz of Celerity - Ranos receives increased speed(60/65/70/75/80), slow resistance, and ignores movement collision upon activation for 5 seconds.

UPGRADE 1: Numbers of speed and slow resistance are increased slightly.

ULT UPGRADE: Scratch the one up there and say "Increased Slightly More"(I am SO good at this scaling thing)In all seriousness, yes.It's more.

UPGRADE 2: Twirl in the air once and teleport to targeted location. Similar to flash except for the twirl delay which does not stop your movement(This path will lose the slow resistance)

ULT UPGRADE: Teleport range is slightly increased and will damage the teleported zones (origin and new location) with scaling AP/AD damage. Twirl animation has Ranos sweep his blade for a moment to give a reason for the damage to the areas.

UPGRADE 3: Give a speed up, slow resistance, and ignored movement collision to Ranos and any surrounding allies. (slightly reduced numbers from the original version)

ULT UPGRADE: Speed up and slow resistance given to allies and self is upped to be the same as the original.

R: The Dance of Blades - Depending on Ranos's choices, the Dance of Blades may possess several forms. All 3 marks will remain gray until an ult point is placed into your Bolero of Wrath, Ballet of Guile, or Waltz of Celerity. Every point will add the selected Dance's color to one of the marks.

  • Placing an Ultimate Point into Bolero of Wrath will make one mark red and will permit one to use the Dance of Blades. One Wrath mark will cause Ranos to stab his blade into a targeted enemy. However, if mixed with another Dance the damage will go down by (X) and will be mixed with the effect with the new Dance.

  • Placing an Ultimate Point into Ballet of Guile will make one mark green and will permit one to use the Dance of Blades. One Guile mark will cause Ranos to gain more armor/magic resistance based on the enemies in the area, keeping the stats for 5 second as well as allowing Ranos to quickly hit each enemy's legs in the radius which considerably slows or stuns opponents. Each consecutive Ultimate Point in Guile will up the range and slow effect, however the effect is reduced if mixed with another Dance. Radius and slow effects may be subject to change depending on points/fusions.

  • Placing an Ultimate Point into Waltz of Celerity will make one mark purple and will permit one to use the Dance of Blades. One Celerity mark will cause Ranos to teleport to another position, dealing similar damage and having similar range to its Ult Upgraded form effectively giving Ranos two E's. Each consecutive point in Celerity will increase the number of times Ranos can teleport 1/2/3(MATH!). The range and damaged will not be reduced if fused with another Dance, but will instead be enhanced (see below).

Potential Ult Combos

  1. QQE - One teleport or dash with the immediate damage of 2 slightly weakened Wrath Points wherever you land.

  2. QWE - One teleport with a minor Guile and Wrath radius (weakened of course) within the radius of the teleport. Slow effect lasts for 1 second but the augmeted armor and magicresistance stays for 5 seconds. Guile takes priority.

  3. WWE - JOHN CENA. Though my brother is immature, I'll let him have his fun and let that comment stay. Anyways, Decent radius circle is created, granting Ranos the defensive stat bonuses of all enemies caught in the initial cast, slowing those slightly. Celerity allows Ranos to quickly teleport to targeted enemy in circle and damage him while applying the slow bonus. Can teleport to other enemies in the radius so long as the circle is up. [(Can't teleport onto the same enemy unless Ranos first teleports to another enemy and even then can only hit (depending on Guile Marks 2/3/4)]

  4. EEE - 3 quick succession Teleports (each with a stylish animation showing him sweep his blade) that deal steadily increasing damage per teleport, making 3 an ouch. Each point in Celerity will increase the teleports, ranges, and damage of other points.

  5. EEQ - Deal the damage of 1 Wrath combined with the damage of 2 Celerities while having a larger radius and range than a QQE including 2 teleports. Effects applied x1.5 per teleport.

  6. EEW - Deal the damage of 2 Celereties with one slow and armor/mr buff effect while having the range of impact be increased slightly. Including 2 teleports. Effects applied x1.5 per teleport.

Without Celerity, Ranos will be restricted to less mobile options.

  1. QQW - Heavy damage to a single target. Slow duration and defensive stats are dependent on Guile marks.

  2. QWW - Respectable damage per enemy hit by Ranos's deceptive fighting style. Guile's effects are prioritized, causing a decent defensive stat upgrade with a minor damage upgrade (BOTH BASED ON HOW MANY ENEMIES ARE CAUGHT IN THE INITIAL CAST) where Ranos can quickly strike at each enemy within the radius by right clicking the enemy in question. (Example: Ranos Casts QWW or WWW. Two enemies, one at both far ends of the circle. click one and have Ranos quickly dash/teleport (teleport depends on if only 1 E is present) to that target and damage him. Enemy 2 still in radius, right click to quickly dash/teleport to that one and damage. Slow effects present on both enemies depending on how many Guile marks there are) [(Can't teleport onto the same enemy unless Ranos first teleports to another enemy and even then can only hit (depending on Guile Marks 2/3/4)]

While this is intended to promote an idea, I will still try to ship Ranos as the first of this type if it will be considered, altered, and accepted. Every 6 levels when the ult point and Upgrade point are given the little arrow above an ability portrait made to signify that you may level an ability up will have 2 arrows per portrait. The Normal one on the left of the top will, when pressed or ctrl + button) will show the 3 forms above the portrait which you may press or ctrl+Q, W, or E to select one of the 3 upgrades. to the right of the upgrade arrow will be a blue arrow, which signifies an Ultimate point that may be used. (Press or ctrl+button after already upgrading/lvling)


LORE


(non-lengthy or in-depth) Once hailed as the greatest duelist and swordsman, Ranos found himself bored. He frowned every time someone refused to so much as spar with him, so using his many rewards and high monetary status, he commissioned a grand arena be made in his name then hidden in a pocket dimension. When the time came that masters of the blade flourished and became his equal or even superior to him, a timed spell would send out 16 shards of his prized blade throughout Runeterra and awaken the mage in charge of the designs so he could spread word of a tale about an ancient sword of power which was shattered long ago. According to the tale, whoever brought all 16 shards to the arena of Ranos would posses the right to be named the Master of Blades. Ranos himself was placed in stasis under the center of his arena which possessed a gold seal with the mold of his sword. The tale, once it had attracted at least one person who would collect all shards and succeed, would teleport any of the shard bearers to Ranos's hidden arena so that Ranos would awaken and meet the supposed master(s) in combat. 1600 years later, Ranos will awake, hungering for a challenge.


EVENT


The idea is that before Ranos is revealed, a little tourney is held. Those who by lore or gameplay are masters of combat will be a part of this event (Aatrox, Tryndamere, Darius, Garen, Jax, Irelia, Katarina, Talon, Riven, Yasuo, Fiora, Master Yi, Zed, Shen (will explain), Leona, and Diana (Will again explain). The ones in the list are all masters of combat, but have their own reasons. Katarina and Talon are members of the Du Couteau family who is known to possess the best blade masters. Kat will solidify the Du Couteau name while Talon believes General Du Couteau is seeking them out. Jax is a boss so we can move on. Irelia, cursed to death by that blade of hers, seeks a magic to help her stay alive. The legends of this blade could be the key. Zed has always sought recognition from others as the greatest, by controlling this sword many will flock to him, while Shen believes Zed will go after the shards and will try to kill Zed when he finds him. Leona is a member of the Rakkor People who are experts in the art of battle, even before she was chosen by the sun, she was trained as an expert fighter and will use the sword to potentially unite the Rakkor and cause them to stop needless battles. While Diana only seeks to worship the moon, she also wants to kill the Solari and improve her order's numbers. Acquiring that blade will make for a good banner. Garen is tasked by Jarvan IV to find this blade and return it to Demacia for study. The Demacian's believe that if They had that blade, then Noxus might think twice about assaulting a people who possess the "greatest swordsman" since power speaks louder than words to them. Darius knows this as well and will collect the shards, killing all in his way, to achieve the tile of "Greatest" for Noxus. Tryndamere and Aatrox have had a long feud and both believe that finding the shards will lead them to eachother, though Aatrox is almost more interested in the sword than Tryndamere. Riven hears of the shattered fragments of a great blade and immediately sets out, believing someone has somehow taken the shards she left behind and made sport of them. Yasuo, hunting Riven, believes that she'll go after these shards and so he will attempt to collect them. Fiora, The Grand Duelist, hears this tale and scoffs. "Those shards will be mine within the month. If a opponent wishes to come at me, then I hope he atleast is a worthy opponent." After the show of bravado, she leaves as quickly as she ran her mouth. Master Yi seeks to show that Wuju is an advanced and respectable form of blades and seeks to collect the blade to promote Wuju.

The Event will basically be a series of missions (similar to the Bilgewater Event) for your selected champion (Number may have to be reduced). Succeeding at your mission a day will promote your champion forward in ranking and grant players from an icon to a little animation of the top 5 champions used in their efforts to collect one of the shards that may be heavily guarded by various creatures while the rest get written stories regarding their efforts.

After the shards are all collected, a second series of event missions will be promoted, dedicated to the stats of certain champions in the pool. If the 1v1/2v2 map would be returned (altered slightly) then this would progress more smoothly. Say the mission is Talon vs. Zed. Before the champion select comes up the 2 or 4 players will meet for 60 seconds in a pre-selection chat-room to discuss what is needed for their missions. After the time elapses or both parties press lock, they move to champ select. I don't know. I like the idea of some kind of event, but all this is JUST to promote the Ability Idea and potentially Ranos.

KogMaw (when Kog uses his joke): I'm not dancing to that tune. Swain : I thought I'd finally be done with the Raven's Shadow. To all who are confused (paper hides as it reveals, how many things are in its leaves? Do solve both riddles mind you)


DIALOGUE


At upgrading Q: What a Violent beat, The Beat thickens, The song of blood!

W: A mysterious beat...I like it, Taunting tones, As beautiful as it is deadly.

E: Quick steps; Faster music, better keep up; Ooh, a fast beat.

R: The culmination of my career! Perfection! Time for a Dance.

Hey! Here are my thoughts on your concept! ^_^

Before I go into details I want to say this. While the idea of champion like this is really cool it's not exactly practical. Look at Viktor for an instance, he was designed with the intention of being able to evolve to the game with his augment. What wound up happening was that everyone always wound up picking augment death every single game. Thing is Viktor's role is a burst mage so he wants to optimize damage, same with your concept. His kit leads him toward some kind of melee adc/bruiser(?) which means he wants to optimize damage over utility. His e and w already serve a good enough purpose being unupgraded, they're utility they will always have value no matter how the game goes but damage needs to be constantly "upgraded" to match up with the enemy team.

Which brings up another issue, what is he? When I read his title he seemed like a AD melee carry like Master Yi or Fiora, but his kit has nothing like that. He doesn't live up to the idea of a blade dancer, nothing in his kit screams to me legendary swordsman. Why is a master swordman throwing smoke bombs at people?

Q: if I were to play this champ this is what I would upgrade first, three Talon q's sounds beautiful to me especially with Yommu's ghost blade and IE (Talon Main). It's too much power to ignore, unless you are ungodly behind this is a mandatory first upgrade.

Lore: Umm I guess it's good?

Overall: I think you have an interesting design but it needs more. When I look at his kit blade dancer isn't the first thing that comes to my mind, so you might want to change the title. I think if you want to make him a champion that evolves to the game you need to centralize his role first. Look at Kha Zhix, he has a clear central role he's an assassin and all of his abilities help him assassinate people. And becasue of that his upgrade path is a lot more diverse than Viktors. Need more damage evolve Q, need to get to them evolve E, need a little more burst/waveclear evolve W, and need extra dueling power evovle R.

Anyway here were my initial thoughts on your champ, it's a nice idea and I can't wait to see what you do with it.

I really like the idea of this type of ability augmentation, and the potential interactions and lore of this champion are very interesting. My only concern is how the abilities seem to have been just copied from other champions, like his Q is just talons Q, and his W is very similar to Cassiopeia's W. This has great potential if you can create a more original kit for him to have. Keep up the good work! (And don't worry about the numbers, that's what testing is for)
