ATTENTION

This concept will be similar to an idea developed here: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/skin-champion-concepts/e0qAjE7M-ranos-the-blade-dancer-idea-of-a-way-to-alter-the-current-ability-choicesmechanics While not the same, Mara does also benefit from this idea and so, in order to fully comprehend this please view the listed post (Note that Ranos himself is merely an example of how to use the idea. Please focus on the IDEA primarily) This is my second attempt at creating a character and it is greatly appreciated if you provide any constructive feedback or suggestions. Also if you happen to suffer from personality disorders, have dark or suicidal thoughts, or are easily offended by the very though that someone like this could be a champion, avoid the lore.

AVOIDING ALL ATTEMPTS AT SCALING. I SUCK AT THAT.

Mara, the Broken Mind

Mara is a high-mobility, control mage that utilizes mirrors and has a mean multi-personality disorder. Seriously.

Passive:

Faces of Betrayal: Mara was broken at a young age, and so to keep her pain from destroying her she developed her emotions into different personalities that each have fearsome powers. Mara can have one of the personalities take over an ability to augment it, but if one personality takes control of too many abilities then its power is decreased all around. View abilities to see the effects of Rage (makes ability icon and animation red), Sorrow (blue), and Mistrust (green). Every 6 Levels, Mara receives a Personality Trait to apply to an ability.

Q:

Chain of Despair: Mara's bitter past wraps around her like chains, but rather than be weighed down, she drags someone down with her. Mara casts a black chain in a targeted direction that, upon hitting an enemy, will damage and drag the target towards where it was originally cast while Mara herself will be slowed while connected to her target. (2 seconds slow at 5 points)

Rage Upgrade: Chain of Rage will become longer and will do damage over time as long as it is connected to an enemy. Mara herself loses any slow effect, but will also take damage over time (50% less than her opponent)

Sorrow Upgrade: Chain of Sorrow will leech the health and mana of the opponent for the duration of the connection and will transfer those stats to Mara. Still has the slow effect.

Mistrust Upgrade: Chain of Mistrust will not connect to Mara, as she gains the strength to cast her chain off entirely and attach it temporarily to an enemy. The chain (animation) will be a projectile that, upon hitting their target, will connect the enemy to 2 other minions or enemies nearby, slowing all (Main target is rooted for .5 seconds and is slowed by 45% for 5 seconds after the root while the others are slowed aslong as the chained target is connected to others. Any who are struck by Chain of Mistrust will be able to be attacked by any that he/she is connected to. If the target is killed by anything then Mara gains +25% movement speed. "Under the right circumstance, anyone would betray their fellows."-Mara

W:

Mirrors of Selves: Mara throws a mirror in a targeted direction while dropping a mirror next to Mara's current position. The mirrors have various interactions with her abilities. If Mara or an ally casts an ability towards the mirror, the ability travels through the other mirror and is given increased range and damage. However, only Mara is able to physically walk through her mirrors which can be destroyed after 3 hits. NOTE that Mara has 2 charges of Mirrors of Selves and yes, W can be cast through her already placed mirrors. If cast on a wall, it will be similar to Bard's Magical Journey, except 2-ways and Mara cannot be pulled, stunned, etc. mid travel.

Rage Upgrade: Mirrors of Rage will grant even more range and damage to abilities that travel through them. Furthermore if an enemy were to destroy a mirror, it would shatter causing 3 of its shards to target the nearest enemy champion (each dealing increased damage if it consecutively hits the same target)

Sorrow Upgrade: Mirrors of Sorrow will spread the damage of any ability that travels through them as an aoe (effect slightly decreased for abilities that are already AoE) and add slow effects. If the ability can stun, root, or slow targets already the effect is not amplified. Only the main ability impact will apply the main effects, but the damage will be distributed amongst various targets in a radius around the main impact. So no, Vel'Koz cannot mass apply his passive.

Mistrust Upgrade: Mirrors of Mistrust will alow enemies to cast through Mara's mirrors, but any ability that passes through can hit any target (Yes, friendly fire). Abilities that pass through the mirror will be slower to allow for redirection. If an ability is redirected to hit their team back, it does x2 damage. Mara also gains another charge of mirrors. Note that if an enemy casts an ability through Mara's mirror and it kills any monster, the kill gold/buffs would be given to Mara. If an ally kills his own teammate through Mara's mirrors, then it will be an execution EVEN IF AN ENEMY HAS ATTACKED THAT TARGET.

E:

Walls of Panic: Mara casts a red triangle projectile towards a targeted area. Walls of Panic ignores anything that is not a champion. If it hits an enemy champion that is near his team's allies or minions, the triangle enlarges, making its points on minions/champions around the target. Minions are rooted for the duration of the spell while enemy champions are stunned for .5 seconds then are slowed as long as they are connected. After the triangle enlargens and connects to points, the point of breaking extends significantly, not allowing easy escape as its shape adjusts to accommodate the walls. If an enemy champion touches the walls, that champion is stunned for 1.5 seconds. If any point is killed then the triangle collapses.

Rage Upgrade: Walls of Rage will damage anything trapped in the triangle while dealing damage over time to the tethered targets aswell. Slow Rate/stun time increased.

Sorrow Upgrade: Walls of Sorrow affect the tethered targets significantly, as if one gets damaged so do the others. If one were to die, the others would recieve 33% of their health as damage.

Mistrust Upgrade: Walls of Mistrust will allow the tether to lock on allied champions and minions, but the initial cast can only surround the main target. Tethered targets will recieve 25% additional damage and can be attacked by their allies while those that try running through the tether to avoid killing fellows will meet a 2.5 second stun while tethered targets just have a dramatically increased slow.

R:

Shatter: Mara casts a glass prism in a targeted direction which, upon hitting an enemy, will trap that champion in the prism until one side is broken. The champion trapped inside the prism will summon 3 hostile projections of himself around that target. Even after destroying one side of the prism, the projections will remain for an extended time or until the champion they imitate dies. Projections will only go after their real counter-part and will be tethered if Mara cast's Walls on the target in the center.

ONCE AGAIN: Mara has a serious multi-personality issue that allows her to remain sane and somewhat stable (ironically). If Rage, Sorrow, or Mistrust are too prolific (more than one) every additional mark will weaken ALL of her abilities slightly. Basically, you will have to choose to swap strength for the potential strategic advantage.

LORE

Originating from the outskirts of Noxus, Maria and her family were pushed off of their land and were forced to be refugees. Maria's mother and father knew that it would be a show of weakness if they went to Noxus for help, for Noxus only respects strength. Demacia, paragon of righteousness and justice, was appealing as a second chance to her family so they moved there to try for a better future only to be met with indifference and lofty glances from the equally lofty people. While Demacia didn't turn them away, they did not treat them as anything more than "Noxian filth". Maria's family was manipulated into accepting binding contracts that effectively enslaved them, though the self-rightious Demacians wouldn't describe it that way. Life long labor and too little pay to purchase their way out of the contract did not directly affect little Maria however. Even now, her parents sought to shelter their little girl and did not force her to help work. Maria, made aquaintences with the local children who played with her, but never truly considered her a friend. They laughed at her, not with her, but little Maria did not think this would be. She played in ignorance until one day, when a large host of demacian soldiers marched out to battle with Noxus. Her "friends" made her play as the Noxian alone while they proceeded to all taunt, mock and even strike her. Tears in her eyes, she fled only to return home and see her parents in manacles, being led to the palace. Maria was pushed away from seeing her parents as they were held on "trial" infront of Jarvan IV who gave the lord that gave her family the contract permission to execute her parents. After 3 days, they were hung in the streets for all to see. While they weren't left for weeks as would be the custom in Noxus, one day was all that was needed for Maria to be pushed to the edge of sanity. Hatred, sorrow, confusion, mistrust, and apathy ran through Maria. An oft unknown fact about the "Flawless" Demacia who had no slums, urchins, or beggars is that any found to be in those categories are thrown out. Maria, no longer caring did not try to escape the guards this time. She allowed herself to be led out the gates and watched as those well-polished gates closed on her. As night finally fell, Maria walked away from the city into the unpopulated wilderness. For the first time in 3 days, Maria once again wept, clutching her head in her hands; her long, black hair falling around her shoulders. She stared up at the moon, a bright disk that mirrored the sun's light. Taking its light and showing a calmer, whiter light. Bathed in that light she felt some power well through her aswell as understanding. She used her newfound power to split her mind. Rather than be alone in her grief, she split herself into various personalities in one body. Rage, Sorrow, Mistrust, and Emptiness. "How dare they. How DARE those Demacian dogs kill her parents. Kill who she'd been. Kill everything she loved." said Rage. Mistrust sniffs in derision, "Wasn't it obvious? The only purpose of a shiny breastplate and a flawless reputation is to hide the rot and corruption. All people are untrustworthy." "Why? Why does it have to be like this?" Wept Sorrow. All three went silent, then turned to Emptiness. "What does it matter? If we are to continue, we need a goal and a name. We may use Maria's body, but we aren't her." "Mara," commented Sorrow, "We can be Mara." Emptiness considered, then nodded. "Mara...an apt name which described our old feelings. Now, a goal?" "Kill them all," snarled Rage, "The dogs that did this to us deserve to be punished for their deception and lies. They hide it under pretty clothes but I see them. Hearts that are black that need to be ripped out and carved up!" Mistrust nodded in approval. "So it shall be," said Emptiness who was void of all emotional interference and could think faster than all the others, "We will kill the Demacians and reveal their blackened hearts to the world." Twenty years later, Mara has finished her training and now has a job to do.

Yes it needs more work, yes I need to do better at capturing the emotion. I just rushed a quick backstory just so I could dish something out then edit.

The kit is overloaded by itself and the concept can't be used due to it romanticizing a mental sickness. Additionally, League used to have items that would burn mana from enemy champions when damaged, but Riot took them out after deciding it was too much fun toxic. Not only that, but she'll become difficult to itemize against. Furthermore, Riot also decided that denying was too much fun toxic as well, so they removed any ability that could damage allies.

It's a nice idea and all, but it's just not possible to do for various reasons, the largest ones being Riot hates fun knows best and that your champion is too strong even without damage.

Hey! Sorry for the delay:/ I meant to review this a lot earlier but stuff came up and I've been having trouble reviewing lately.

Complexity: One of the reason why I didn't want to try and review this is that trying to figure out what does straight up gives me a headache. Mara has so many options on all her abilities that I really can't keep up with what she does. A little while ago I asked a self made game developer for some tips and this was one that stuck out to me.

Depth in a kit is fantastic, but always remember simplicity is desired -- even in complexity. The very best kits are easy to understand, yet difficult to master. If you need paragraphs to write up an ability, it's probably not an elegant mechanic.

This was a problem in your last concept too. I had a REALLY hard time trying to put everything together and I couldn't fully analyze the kit.
