What I Would Like to see from the Evelynn Rework

Brutalitops01··8 votes·901 views

Evelynn is a champion who has been attracting reworks since beta, and she's due for another one coming next year. I don't have a concept for the rework, but I do have what I would like to see her gain, what I would like to see her lose, and what I would like to see her retain. Retain Stealth I want to see her keep some mechanic of stealth in her kit. Maybe some heavily modified version of it that's easier to balance, but something to hide her from the enemy's sight. Her niche is her sneakiness, so she should certainly keep stealth in some form. E Her E is a very good ability that I would like to see mostly remain untouched when she transfers over. Camp Clear Evelynn is usually played as a jungler, so I would like to see her keep something by way of a fast clear or at least some sustain replacing the sustained damage in her kit.

Gain Burst Evelynn certainly needs more burst. Though labeled as an assassin, she's forced into a more fighter/juggernaut type of build because she just doesn't have the burst to get the job done. Gap Closer/Escape I want to see Evelynn get some type of hard dash ability. The movement speed from her W instead of a hard gap closer combined with the lack of burst is what forces her to become a pseudo-juggernaut. She certainly needs some hard gap closer to make her feel more assassin-like and give her some more flashy outplays. A New Ultimate Her ultimate is, honestly, useless on an assassin. It deals % current health damage in an area of effect, slows, and gives a shield. This is an ability that would certainly fit more on a tank or fighter than an assassin. Visual Update Just a bit of a thing not kit related, I would like to see Evelynn get new visuals or at least a tune-up. And please make her have a new outfit that isn't her nearly-naked one. PLEASE.

Lose Passive Stealth Her stealth passive is, honestly, pretty broken. It's the reason why she can't have everything she needs as an assassin. While I would like to see her keep the stealth, she certainly needs a new passive that can have balance that isn't "Make this assassin have no burst." Q Hate Spike is an ability that has been on her kit since the beginning, but it doesn't really fit on an assassin's kit. A low cooldown, low damage (sustained damage) ability again fits more on a fighter instead of an assassin. It might not need a full rework, maybe just a tune-up to give it more damage at the cost of a longer cooldown, but it needs something to make it into a burst ability instead of a sustained damage ability. I'm also thinking that the camp clear/sustain could come in here. Something like a small heal for hitting an enemy, similar to Kha'Zix's W. And yes, I do understand that Kha'Zix's Q is very low cooldown, but it also has a ton of damage to the point where it's his primary burst ability and it's reliant on a mechanic your opponents can easily play around. W Again, movement speed isn't very good on an assassin. I'm thinking maybe put the stealth on the W, and have it be something like Serqet from Smite's stealth ability, where she stealths and roots herself, but is visible within an area around her, and can reactivate it while stealthed to jump. R Again, her ultimate doesn't fit on an assassin and needs a rework pretty badly. I don't have any suggestions for something I would like to see replacing this, though.

I would try to come up with a full rework for Evelynn myself, but she and the entire faction of the Black Rose need lore reworks before any type of update for Evelynn can be made. She doesn't have a lore from which you can glean an expected kit. Her, and the Black Rose as a whole, have the lore of "Not much is known. All we know is that she's a member and Leblanc is the leader and it's stationed in Noxus." I would like to see something like the Mount Targon event, where all members of the Black Rose get a fully new lore all accessible from one page and the Black Rose as a whole gets a new general lore, maybe the release of a new Black Rose champion into the release of the Evelynn relaunch, similar to how Aurelion Sol was released and then the Taric relaunch not long after. I could maybe try to do the lore and stuff myself just for a bit of a challenge to tackle, but that all might be just a bit too much for a humble champion concept-creating fan. I think I'll leave all that up to Riot, and I have high hopes for the Evelynn rework. Thanks for reading, and feel free to tell me what you want to see from the Evelynn rework.

I agree with this post hard core. I too want Evelynn to be more than a walking lingerie dominatrix, to be recreated with a wardrobe that expresses her use of seduction to make her kills without resorting to nudity to express it.

CrimsonCobra31 votes

I generally agree, excepting one thing: movement speed is good on assassins--that's why they all like to build Yomuu's Ghostblade.

Brutalitops011 votes

Youmuu's is good on assassins for the stats and yes, for the active. However, movement speed isn't seen in most assassins' kits because hard gap closers are just better.

CrimsonCobra31 votes

Agreed. That's generally true for all champions---excepting, perhaps, Hecarim. For instance, Flash is chosen over Ghost because it's immediate and allows instantaneous engage or disengage. That's simply more powerful psychologically and mechanically than a speed boost.

Brutalitops011 votes

I'd run Ghost on more than just Hecarim. In fact, I'd put it on pretty much any juggernaut or fighter in place of flash, except for a few. Why is more stick potential. Why flash onto your target when they'll just run away afterwards? Ghost lasts longer, has a shorter cooldown, and helps you stick in the situations where you need to.

CrimsonCobra31 votes

You're one of a few who do so. I usually play high CC champions, and so flash helps more. (Instant relocation for immediate CC results in a rather one-sided battle--which is fine as it's usually my side.) And Flash helps ADCs more because they need to escape CC or burst. Juggernauts are perhaps the only class that conceivably benefits more from Ghost.

Brutalitops011 votes

I'd put it on people who have trouble sticking to their targets - low cc champions, juggernauts, pretty much anyone where flash wouldn't be better. Darius DrMundo Garen Hecarim Illaoi Olaf Nunu Nasus Mordekaiser Rammus Shyvana Sion Skarner TahmKench Trundle Singed Udyr are all champions I feel would be better having flash than ghost.

CrimsonCobra31 votes

That looks about right. Excepting perhaps Rammus, Skarner, Tahm, and Udyr if you want the instant CC.

Brutalitops011 votes

Skarner is one that I do play and do certainly run ghost over flash on. Ulting your target is nice and all, but you need to then run out and you can't flash while your ult is channeling. People can't kite you ghosting at them with all your speed boosts and the slow on them, so why not just run ghost so that you can catch up to them, ult them, and pull them back to your team even faster?

CrimsonCobra31 votes

Well, I actually wouldn't know that for sure. I've only played him a few times. (I didn't remember the ult channel.)

Brutalitops011 votes

All suppresses, and his ultimate is a suppress, are considered a channel while they're in use. Stuns are on non-ultimate abilities, not considered channels, but can be broken by Summoner Cleanse, while suppresses have to be broken by QSS.

CrimsonCobra31 votes

Ah yes. Well, flash may still be useful with his ult. Instant relocation is powerful.

Brutalitops011 votes

You can't use flash during his ultimate. Like, I think there might be a brief instant where you press it and flash at the same time and drag your opponent with you, but I've only pulled that off once and it was an accident.

Of all the ap melee assassin we have in this game it make me skeptical of what they could do for her.

These are the melee ap assassins Fizz Ekko Diana Kassadin AkaliKatarina and maybe Elise Nidalee . Note I did not include Shaco because I think he need that Master Yi treatment where the merge the ap and ad playstyle.

There is only four who really jungle.

Fizz and Ekko has that %hp that the community tend to dislike.

Diana is more a diving fighter.

Kassadin and Katarina are mid laners. No real sustain of camp clear.

Akali is more of a Skirmisher in my opinion.

Elise and Nidalee have six abilities.

If she was being rework I'm guessing she would be more like Fizz, Ekko, and Diana. If this were to be true then I would say she should keep hate spike. All three of the champ I mention have some form of dps on top of their burst. Fizz have his W, Ekko has his passive although there is a lock out period and Diana has her passive. This dps help with clearing camp and provide them with something to do when their abilities are on cooldown.

As for her e I don't think it should stay. I think it should be replace or rework into an ability that give her the bursting power she needs. Also I don't she need a dashing ability. She should either have invisibility or dash not both. Khazix Rengar and Shaco but their is limited or very toxic when they can deal that instant kill(knifekitty).

Also I personally don't think assassin should have escape. Their job is to go in and kill the priority target and die trying. Not if I can't kill you i'm outie. You go in you kill your target and your teammate win the game that is your jobs sick and tired of these safe assassin. Assassin are high risk, high reward, not LC$ big play and then some. The ideal assassin is the one that can say WURF when the die. They are not melee ADC who can't burst Yasuo Tryndamere MasterYi they are Ride and Die champions.

Interestingly enough, almost all assassins have an out. Excepting Nidalee. She only has her pounce--which isn't really anything. (Note that I am speaking of Assassins, there are a number of Divers that have engage but no out, such as Xin Zhao, Diana, Warwick, Irelia, Nocturne, Elise, etc. I'm a little unsure on whether or not these 'Divers' will be reworked in the assassin update as well, so I'm generally trying to separate the two in my head.

Neamean1 votes

Actually not many assassin has an out especially the older ones and if they have an out it is usually at a price or earned. Kha and Kat need to get a kill to earn their out or to get more kill. Fizz troll polling out mean he lose damage. Akali lose damage if she use her ult to escape onto minion or jungl ecreeps.

Most skirmisher assassin don't have an out. They usually got some kind of standby or skillful dodge.(alpha strike, meditate, repulse, wind wall, be a man for 5 second Undying rage) It is only the new one that get an out which I hate. Riot keep making assassin safer which defeat the purpose of High Risk, High Reward. It is now Low Risk, High Reward.

The Divers aren't being work on with the assassin rework as far as I know, they were contender for the class rework though. I think it was Divers, Assassin, or Tank. They end up going with assassins.

CrimsonCobra31 votes

Well, to start with, Kha'zix and Katarina each has a very balanced out. Just because they need to do something for it doesn't mean it's not an out. It definitely still is.

Fizz losing damage isn't necessarily a problem--especially if you need to get out. And remember, with some CDR it's much more manageable. (Albeit, they nerfed that finally. I don't main Fizz though--I don't know how bad that was.) The fact is, he has an engage and an out.

Akali's rather similar, however, I was counting her invis field as her out. Becoming untargetable is definitely a lifesaver in my book.

Tryndamere actually has an out with his E in addition to his ult. (And with some crit he can use it for engage and disengage.)

Please keep in mind, these aren't 'get out of jail free' cards. They're 'get out of jail if you pay the bail', almost all of them have some trade-off. However, I'd say that it is a definite trend with assassins. That said, I wasn't actually debating your original point. I'm not a huge fan of Assassins having such ready escapes. I think their escapes should come at a steeper cost in most cases. Although I'd say the worst offenders are Zed, Fizz (at least in times past), Le'Blanc, and maybe Talon. (Though I think Talon is mostly balanced.)

Neamean1 votes

Totally agree with you that it they don't have get out of jail free card, because that what I am talking about when I said that newer champ are given these innately and they hardly sacrifice anything. I mean Ekko does sacrifice his ult damaging part when he use it to escape but his ult damage is not detrimental to his capability to kill his target. Zed out of jail card is pretty much free. These are the "out" that I'm talking about.

Kha and Kat don't have and out the primarily use their stuff as an engage and only if they get a kill they have an out if they don't get a kill they are pretty much sitting ducks. They don't have guarantee outs.

Fizz is out would make him lose out on a lot of damage although it is on a low cooldown it has a trade off, save it for an escape then he deal less damage use it for damage then he is vulnerable. It's problem is that it has quite a low cooldown

Akali like I've mention before I consider as a skirmisher and her shroud would be equivalent to stand-by ability like yi when he meditate, or Yasuo wind wall to avoid damage. They aren't an out but a way to survive with out having tank stat.

As for Tryn it is mainly use as and engage but hit can also be use as an out. Assassin with lower cooldown dashes are usually face with the decision to hold onto the ability for an escape but lose out on their damage or use their dashes in their all in but become vulnerable.

I just want to make clear that a lot of assassin do have an "out" built into their kit but often time they are using their "out" to engage. Once they are in the ability is on cooldown so they don't have an out. Yes they have an out if they hold onto it but that mean they can't jump on to their target or they get kited. Basically they don't have an out if they need it to go in.

Brutalitops011 votes

"I mean Ekko does sacrifice his ult damaging part when he use it to escape but his ult damage is not detrimental to his capability to kill his target." After all the nerfs to him, you try bursting someone down with just your Q, E, passive, and thunderlord's. I play him enough to know that you only get more than half the target's health if you're fed. The nerfs have made it so that the ultimate or at least 2 combos are required to kill your target. And yes, this is full AP assassin Ekko I'm talking about, not tank Ekko or bruiser Ekko. I just refuse to play those builds. Yes, it's an out, but using it like that sacrifices over 1000 damage from your combo, and it certainly sacrifices killing your target if they aren't already within kill range.

Neamean1 votes

Yeah sorry I kinda use Ekko prime (before nerfs) as the example where he didn't really need it for the burst, Now however you need the ult to burst. but that thing is so unreliable sometime which annoys me or at the very least it is unreliable when I use it XD. It's just that to land that ability is a whole other story, if I miss I ain't got no out. The safety of his ult is often time better than the damage it provide unless you can ult and burst their entire team then well played, well played.

CrimsonCobra32 votes

Well, I disagree that it's as simple as you state in the end, but it's very clear that we both understand what we're talking about and simply disagree on the exact nature of the end result. I think that most assassins have an out if they're played correctly, and you think they usually sacrifice their out when they go in for the kill. Both are kind-of true, assassins can save their outs if they think they need it, but they will, as you emphasize, generally sacrifice some offensive power for doing so.

In either case, we both agree that these outs should be far from free. So we agree on the most important part.

I've got a couple ideas for stealth on Eve.

Back in the day, she used to have resets and healing on her ult when she killed something as a passive. I'd like to bring that back, but instead of resetting her spells, it instantly stealths her and gives her a bit of speed boost and some health back.

Or maybe a short instant burst stealth and speed on W with a really low cooldown, but a stacking mana cost like Kass's R. Could make it so it couldn't be used in combat because the purpose of it is to traverse the map without being seen.

I really like the stealth on kill idea.

It's another poppy, yorick, and sion rework. They need to rework everything. Welp at least Riki from dota isn't in l. Permanent invisible and basically has crits when he scratches your back and you run and die since you didn't turn around to fight. Also has a smoke screen that adds miss chance. That would be sooooooo much worse in lol than dota since you can pop dust if the invisible activates and put down sentry wards everywhere since there's no limit. It's just your gold. Eve is not as bad as yorick but pretty bad. You can't clear unless you practice. She needs first blood a d need to capitalize on that lead. You have no burst. The kit is all kinds of not assassin like except the stealth. Hate spike is on a 2 second coodown and has an aimbot. The q is shit damage. also her she kit doesn't make sense thematically. I'd bet shyvana would be able to run in her jungle, clear it, and kill eve before she can react and have enough hp to 1v5 from getting g a 500 gold advantage and repeating and killing her 3 times in a row. and shyvana is pretty weak atm. Damn bloodrazor took my 1st champion from me. Rip. Eve will find her place in the spotlight someday but today isnt it even with the lessening of tanks. I don't see too many anymore. Eve is just a troll pick like singed that you may in regulars just to have fun and laugh at stupid shit.

Brutalitops011 votes

Shyvana I would think can still be pretty good, though I haven't played her myself in a while. They gave her some AP scaling so that she can build Guinsoo's and get the old Sated passive without the AP hurting too much to buy, and Bloodrazor is overall a better item than Sated ever was because it deals 4% max health in on-hit damage. It's the reason why there are now, here and there, some ADC's running around in the jungle (Kindred, Twitch, Kog'Maw). That 4% makes anyone who buys it shred through tanks and objectives like nobody's business, not to mention Kindred and Kog already have % health damage in their kits. Maybe you've already tested this and it doesn't work like I'm saying, because mine is only theoretical, but I feel like she could still be pretty strong.

d4rkshock1 votes

Guinsoos is an inefficient and expensive item. Only jax, Xin Zhao, and Kayle use it. On most champions, it's better but shyvana relied on sated. Warwick, that's 20% max hp from the ult. Yi gets 8% every 4th auto. Kindred is basically a machine gun late game. Nocturne benifits the least. Shyvana q is 8% hp. Not sure about jax and Xin zhao. Shyvana is feast or famine atm. She just won't work. The reason she liked devour is her e. It added a mark that gave her % bonus damage on marked targets. You could even triple proc it. And also, Titanic Hydra is a thing which worked with sated. Now its gone. The point is that eve is one of those super simple champions that riot refuses to let be good. Same for tryndamere and Yorick. Eve is easily invaded early and easily stopped with pinks if they stay up. No one in low elo expects the pink ward. Also mod game, blue wards everywhere. half her abilities don't make sense thematically. He movement speed ability and hatespike. Welp I won't have to worry about her so much.

DrugsForRobots1 votes

Personally, I think Eve's stealth would be far less frustrating if 1) we had more interesting warding options like a Sentry and Snitch, and 2) if she had some sort of audio cue whenever she's near (like within 1K range) - what I've been calling 'night whispers' but anything would be better than nothing.

In return, she could get some QoL buffs and extra utility, since her stealth would be 'weaker'.

I also think Eve would benefit immensely from an ulti that effectively stealthed her and her target from everything but each other (even from True Sight) making use of the Fog of War to give the impression of them being enveloped in darkness (kinda like what Noct ulti does). Then they could dance and duel in a 1v1 and she'd feel like an assassin without having the '100-0 burst in .5 seconds' that is the current problem with many assassins.

Bonus points if they call it 'The Embrace'.

Brutalitops011 votes

Fiora's original reworked ultimate was called The Grand Duel, and it was similar to the Evelynn ultimate you're saying that they should make, except it gave the winner a massive buff. They replaced it very close to before she went to the PBE with the current one because the Fiora player would just put it on the squishiest, lowest damage target on the team, kill them, and get a massive buff only to get teleported back to the teamfight and kill everyone. It was basically, she throws out a glove. Her and the first enemy champion the glove hits get teleported to baron pit with walls around them that can't be jumped or blinked passed. They are then forced to fight, and the winner gets a massive buff before being teleported back to their previous position. I personally think that this ultimate wouldn't be particularly good. You don't have the reward for killing your target, and if you ult an ADC or mage and get kited or ult an assassin with more burst than you, you're basically putting yourself into a death pit. That leaves tanks and supports. Tanks would never die to you before you died to them and supports, other than tank supports, would either have the damage to kill her faster (Brand, Zyra, possibly Bard, etc.) or would just roll over and die. The only time that ulting the support would have any real value to it, though, is when it's either a high damage support (who would just kill you) or a healing support (which would feel extremely dissatisfying for the enemy player and basically die). Overall, any ability that forces an opponent into a guaranteed 1v1 is poor game design. If you give it a buff for the winner, they just ult the easiest target to kill and then have this buff that lets them rip through everyone. If you don't, there's no point to even use it unless you know, as a fact, you can outburst your opponent without getting kited out, which would mean that your burst HAS to come out in 0.5 seconds for you to even stand a chance, or you would be forced to build tanky, which is the other problem with the assassin role: that people like Ekko and Fizz are being built full tank or bruiser build and still deal too much damage for it to be balanceable. Sorry to kinda shut your idea down, but it's fact that has been proven in the past.
