Scaling overhaul: Adding more different scaling on champions.
I'll start off by saying that statsticking is diminished, and a handful of new champions can still statstick. ( Ornn, Nunu, Galio. ) It's obvious that Riot would like to dodge having the item > skill meta outside of botlane.
However this has nothing to do with that, it only has everything to do with playstyle.
Shaco is an amazing balance between normal AD assassin and questionable AP burst, so much so Riot has been nerf/buffing BOTH builds.
However let's take a quick look at a small Illaoi buff: Illaoi's tentacles gained ( +40% AP ) scaling.
Riot says this is so she can utilize buff powers in both ways, but off-meta players such as myself saw this as a reason to build Gunblade over Death's Dance. It's these small hybrid scalings that can change a playstyle completely.
Qiyana for example has a 0.3 AP scaling on her passive and a 0.3 AP scaling on her W. This is a 0.3 AP scaling on her basic attack ( basically a free nashor's ), and a 0.3 AP burst per element attack. In 5 seconds ( with enough CDR ) near water, earth and brush; using basic attacks to proc it off, that is 1.8 AP thrown on. This isn't enough to make anyone play AP Qiyana, but it does make Hextech Gunblade look interesting.
However, some champions do not have these additional scalings... and it means they only have one way to play; which gets boring quicker. Like Pyke and Lux.
Lux has the upper hand, since many mages / AP-focused champions can be played as ADCs with no real problems since you're focusing on engage, disengage and basic attack power. Pyke is forced into his role by being a AD only champion; melee at that. He's even MORE forced into what he can build since his abilities also scale on lethality.
This is where my concept comes in.
Pyke could have a small little AP scaling, and be open to a vast number of opportunities. Like maybe: Phantom Undertow gets a 0.4 AP scaling, Death From Below removes the lethality scaling and gains a 0.65 AP scaling.
Then you would be seeing Pykes with Gunblade and Lich Bane ever so often, making what to expect a little less obvious.
Kayn: Shadow Step heal gains 8.0 AP scaling. ( Carries on over. ) Shadow Assassin: Reaping Slash gains 0.5 AP scaling. Rhaast: Blade's Reach gains 0.5 AP scaling.
Aatrox: Deathbringer stance gains 2% max health scaling per 40 AP. Darius: Crippling strike's slow duration increased by 0.5 seconds per 20 AP. Urgot: Corrosive Charge gains 1.0 AP scaling. Zed: Contempt for the weak gains 0.4 AP scaling. Yuumi: Prowling Projectile changes scaling + damage type based on adaptive power.
