(Champion Concept) Grut, Ancient Beast Knight of Demacia
LORE They say in the beginnings of Demacia, there was no central idea that brought the warriors who founded the now mighty kingdom together other than being driven to the edge of death by the magical death dealers of the world. It is said a ring of mighty warrior kings were the ones to found Demacia with each taking a major role in, even now, how each aspect of the nation is structured. Grut, one of these legendary knights who reigned from a now dead kingdom of warriors known as "Beast Knights" that were called such for their armor being an outer representation of who they were beneath the armor. Grut, for a lack of better words, was a little more than just similar to that which his armor represented; he was the epitome of what he wore. https://cdnb.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/003/942/639/small/sueng-hoon-woo-kyle-mecha-1-fbe.jpg?1478759669 Art by sueng hoon woo on ArtStation At times, many who served under Grut wondered if it was truly a man underneath the helm. He never took off his armor, causing it stink to high heaven. However, being the founder of the modern day Demacia military alongside his rival Orlon, many knew not to insult, question, or really do anything to possibly piss the guy off. To date, due to his cunning and ferocity, no warrior had ever defeated Grut in combat except for fights he considered losses due to his duels with Orlon always ending in a draw. The scariest aspect of Grut is not his armor or his personality, but the fact that he has never used a weapon other than his armor and body in his whole life. Indeed, all of his matches that had been a draw against Orlon, who wielded a mighty hammer capable of shattering mountains, were all done with just his fists, feet, and any other advantage he could find for himself in combat without using anything made of steel other than his armor. While Orlon taught the original army of Demacia ideals and combat with weapons, Grut taught the cruelties of war, hand to hand combat, and how to effectively make use of one's armor. He also, together with Orlon, taught how to work as a team, or as Grut liked to call it, hunt with the pack. Many of the rookies would commonly snicker at such sayings, but they were usually found a day later with a gruesome bite mark on their body and telling tales of how they had learned not to disrespect their commander. When Noxus and Demacia first went to war, Grut was always at the front of the army, making sure to set an example for the troops charging into battle. The wolf-man would rack up a kill count greater than any soldier in the Demacian army, and even the armies of Noxus had grown to respect the savagery and pure strength of the lone Beast Knight within the Demacian army. Noxus armies that learned they were about to fight the Beast Knight of Demacia would celebrate beforehand with a mighty war chant that told of how today they were marching to fight a truly worthy foe. It was said that it was promised fortune to any who could kill the Beast Knight. However, none would ever come close to slaying Grut... until the legendary warrior of Noxus entered the fray. Sion, a truly remarkable behemoth in the ranks of Noxus' army, would eventually meet Grut on the battlefield. Upon seeing each other, they both felt a jolt of rage flow through their bodies as they leaped at each other, wishing to prove who was the stronger fighter. Much to Grut's disappointment, this battle would not only end in a draw, but a seemingly fatal draw. Both warriors were separated after a huge wave of cavalry swept the battlefield, forcing both to retreat and lick their wounds. These wounds, however, were announced to be fatal for Grut. However, in the dark of the night, Grut disappeared from the medical tent his subordinates had set up for him and would not reappear in Demacian history ever again. It is said that Grut wandered off, wishing for no one to see him at his weakest, and died on a beach before being washed into the ocean. Demacian soldiers are said to channel his ferocity and cunning in the grimmest of battles, throwing down their then dulled weapons and using their body and armor to tear apart their enemies. However, Grut's body was never found and, in truth, the mighty warrior did not die on some random beach somewhere. In fact, Grut had actually returned to nature to reflect on his now second opponent that he had failed to defeat. It is said a Beast Knight had been seen several times wandering the outer edges of the Freljord border, hunting the greatest predators in the area to hone it's strength. Such rumors were never proven false or true, simply being left as an urban legend that Grut lived on from his wounds. Little did the many kings of Demacia who heard this rumor realize that they were true and that Grut was still alive somehow after all these years. He did not age and he did not seem to ever die from natural causes. Grut was never seen in Demacian history after his battle with Sion... until now. Sion, having been resurrected to hunt down and kill Jarvan IV, had nearly claimed another victory in the name of Noxus when a lone soldier stood atop the many Demacian corpses littering the battlefield. The man stepped forward to reveal his armor, sending Sion into a rage he had not experienced since before he had died. Grut had returned to rematch his old foe, and he had never been more prepared. Using all that he had honed and learned over the years, Grut would eventually come to be the victor of this duel. However, his victory would last long as Sion rose again, seemingly having regenerated all the wounds he had sustained before sending Grut flying with a huge swing of his ax. Grut howled out in rage before seemingly retreating from the battlefield. However, the Beast Knight had learned that sometimes even he required help. Grut, after many, many years since his disappearance, suddenly appeared in the king's throne room. He told of dark times to come as Noxus had brought back the monster that had haunted the Jarvan line up until his death. Grut refused to answer any questions regarding his disappearance, instead leaving just as quickly as he come while making sure the king had something to consider and think about. If Demacia was to kill this beast, they required assistance from something that could stop this beast's resurrection. Grut, instead of searching for a way to bolster his own strength, went out to search for such a person or way that could stop Sion's endless resurrection. This search would lead him all across Runeterra, causing members of every nation to learn the truth: the Beast Knight had returned, and he was searching for something or someone.
When Does a Man Become a Beast?
Orlon stepped into the tent, the great Beast Knight already sitting across the table from him. He was the only member of his kind to side with Demacia, for the others found their hatred of magic and beasts going against their standards. Many saw Grut as a traitor, but, to Orlon, he was simply a bit of a wild card. He had long questioned if Grut should be allowed in the Demacian army, for he personified the monsters of nature within himself. Grut, however, saw this differently. As Orlon entered the tent, he narrowed his eyes and grunted. Grut saw Orlon's people as wise to purge magic from nature, for the wolf was often the main beast weakened when a magical beast entered it's territory. Wolves were the natural predators of the world that knew of a time far back when magic did not flow through most of the world's trees and plants. Back when magic itself was a rarity and a hunt was as simple as putting your teeth into the prey's neck. Grut wished to return to those times, which is why he sided with Demacia.
"You're late, oh so mighty hammer wielder of the "pure and humble"."
Despite all that, Grut still hated Orlon. Orlon showed an obvious hatred for ANY beast of the wild, believing them primitive hunters that simply looked for their next meal. Grut knew such naive thinking was also what made Orlon the powerful leader he was, so he did not question him in front of his army, but that didn't stop him from thinking about it.
"And you, Beast Knight, smell like dog shit as always."
In truth, both of the warriors respected each other for their strength and deep hatred of magic. It was simply the matter of when a man became a monster that truly dug the line between them. In Grut, Orlon saw a man who leaned far too close to becoming a savage. In Orlon, Grut saw a man scared of the very world itself. Despite this, they both let out a chuckle at each other's negative comment towards the other.
"I called you here today, Grut, to make sure I can trust you in our growing kingdom."
"I have been here since the very beginning Orlon. Why do you distrust me now of all times?"
"Soldiers have been reported with deep bite marks on their limbs after insulting your command. You wouldn't have anything to do with such a thing would you?"
The tips of Grut's armor's teeth were soaked in dried blood, emitting a foul stench to go on top of Grut's absolutely disgusting body odor. He sighed.
"Discipline is something an army needs Orlon."
Orlon slammed his fist onto the table.
"Discipline is not enforced by maiming your own allies!"
The tent was silent for a moment before Grut stood up from his seat and began towards the entrance to the tent.
"If you want me gone, I will leave. However, I know you far too well Orlon."
Grut looked back at the man who stared at him with glaring annoyance.
"What did you say to me when we first met? Are you a man or are you a monster?"
Grut turned around and left the tent.
"I am neither and both fool. I am the brutality of nature and the leadership of an alpha. Whether you like it or not, the world is what it is today because such beasts have been allowed to be killed off and other more deceitful creatures taking their place. Don't question my methods again or you'll be leading an army of cowards for the rest of your life."
With that, Grut began his journey back to his own tent. Orlon knew not to continue this further, because it would only end in another useless duel between them. However, in the back of his mind, Orlon knew Grut held some truth in his words. If he allowed Grut to leave, his army would lose something within each soldier that Grut unleashed from within each of them, and it was not something monstrous or evil. It was passion. It was rage. It was determination to make sure every last one of their enemies fell that day and, even if they fled behind their walls for centuries, eventually the day would come when they must go out and kill the enemies who would otherwise forever threaten their lands. Grut was more than just a monster and a man. He was the burning passion that made Demacia's army what is was today. However...
"Just know when to stop before you truly do become something inhuman Grut."

GAMEPLAY PHILOSOPHY Grut is probably the single scariest dude you can have focusing you down on the enemy team due to his incredibly adept tool kit for chasing down, out-maneuvering, and overpowering his target, especially if they make use of ranged projectiles. Beast Knight's Dexterity allows Grut to basically ignore any attempts at kiting him and encourages the enemy to just run if they can't duel him, making his enemies forced to respect the power he brings to the table and not hide behind a ranged advantage to defeat him. The only way to defeat Grut is to tie down the beast through crowd control and make sure he doesn't have his way in a fight. If you can do this, he becomes easier to deal with. Crowd control that cannot miss or does not involve a projectile can quickly shut down the beast. While this might make Grut seem very bipolar in nature as far as when it comes to when he can and cannot be successful, proper itemization proves otherwise by providing Grut with the tools to overpower a set amount of crowd control if forced to. This makes the fight much more about not wasting resources mindlessly so that you always have the firepower to tie down Grut. Otherwise, he can relentlessly sweep a team with the strength of his entire kit. Grut is truly the first champion that honestly can in fact go Top Lane and reliably act as his team's carry due to his ability to easily ignore the main strengths of most ADCs, being their ability to kite melee champions and kill melee champions before they even reach them. Grut does not care for this, for he simply ignores their pathetic attempts to damage him and pursues them without any hesitation. Once he has finally reached his target, Grut can quickly pick them up and toss them into his team for a nice big hug. From there, Grut can sweep the enemy team by chaining together Kill to Kill and constantly dodging enemy spells through Beast Knight's Dexterity. His ultimate, Hound of War, is a huge damage reduction tool that forces his enemies to kill Grut with bursts of damage instead of small amounts of sustained damage. This once again hammers his identity down as the guy who is going to make the enemy ADC and maybe even Mage have a really bad time by his ability to avoid and hunt down his target. During the laning phase, Grut should mainly be focused on farming and avoiding enemy confrontations with his Beast Knight's Dexterity and Beast's Strength. Once Grut has finally bought his first big item, namely Sterak's Gage if you are Top, he can begin to initiate on the enemy in an attempt to snowball any advantage he gains to an early victory by repeated uses of his ultimate and the stat advantage his passive grants him. After knocking out his opponent's tower, he can begin to roam to other lanes to eviscerate the enemy ADC and APC. Once team fights start, Grut can really get to spamming Beast Knight's Dexterity, but has to be careful not to use up all of his mana as it costs a fair amount of mana to spam as much as a Grut player would probably want to. During a team fight, Grut becomes incredibly durable against sustained damage due to his ultimate, making him become able to accumulate a large shield from his enemies if they don't have enough consistent burst damage to get through his shield. Enemies who are not wise will simply fuel Grut into an unstoppable machine that wrecks havoc on his enemies, tearing them limb from limb.
