[Champion Concept] Xanir, The Child of Twilight

Destínum··9 votes·2,376 views

Note: Xanir is duo-gendered. Therefore, I will refer to Xanir as "they" rather than he/she when I'm not talking about a specific form.

Primary Role: Support Secondary Role: Assassin

Description

Concept

Born from the chaotic clash of light and darkness, Xanir struggle to find balance between their darker, more masculine side and their lighter, more feminine side. Xanir is in basis a good person but need to always be wary of their own emotions or they will loose control to their third, chaotic side.

Gameplay

Xanir is a shapeshifting support who excel in big teamfights and utilize a resource called Divine/Dark Energy. Basically, the two resources share a bar with a mid point between them that gets pushed towards one side when one of the resources is generated (A.k.a. if Xanir gain 10 Divine Energy, they at the same time loose 10 Dark Energy). The bar always hold a total of 100 Energy combined, with 50 of each being the mid point (and the default which you spawn/respawn with and have when Twilight Fiend's duration ends).

Xanir's two forms are called Angel of Light and Shadow Demon. Angel of Lights abilities are empowered by Divine Energy, but generate Dark Energy. Respectively, Shadow Demons abilities are empowered by Dark Energy, but generate Divine Energy. This causes a play patter where Xanir need to constantly manage their resource back and forth in order to get the most out of both forms. This differ Xanir from most other shape shifters, who can just change back and forth however they like. If Xanir doesn't do this properly however, they will automatically change into a third form, Twilight Fiend, which has more of an Assassin play pattern than support. This form also has it's own set of abilities.

Strengths and weaknesses

Because Xanir have to change forms depending on their resource status, all three forms can have their own meaningful strengths and weaknesses without compensating out each others, much like Gnar.

Angel of Light: Has great defensive power and is ranged, but is immobile and have very low offensive power.

Shadow Demon: Has strong lockdown and decent damage, but is 100% melee and have to fully commit to do anything (without having an escape afterwards).

Twilight Fiend: Has good cleanup potential with high damage against low health targets, but is both squishy, has low utility and deals little damage against high health targets. Should pretty much only be used towards the end of a fight.

Visuals

I'm not very good at drawing, but these reference pictures should be close enough to what I have in mind (although not completely accurate of course).

Angel of Light

Angel of Light looks something like this, minus the outfit and the white hair (which is supposed to be golden): http://i.imgur.com/qFScoQd.jpg

Also has head wings and is covered in feathers around the chest, from the waist down (minus toes and below the feet), on the lower arms and on the backside of the hands (minus the fingers).

Shadow Demon

Shadow Demon looks something like this (although without the spike-thingies on his shoulders, as well as the color scheme being much more black/dark grey than purple): http://i.imgur.com/X9RrbIk.jpg?1

Some differences though:

  • Xanir has much longer and much more flowing black hair.
  • Xanir is covered in fur between the waist and the knees.
  • Xanir's face is no where near as intimidating. In that aspect, he looks more like a male angel.

I couldn't find any pictures that would be accurate enough to represent the Twilight Fiend, but just imagine the two previous pictures mixed together into something pretty freakish-looking.

Lore

"Where... am I? This place... it's so colorful. So full of life and movement. So... beautiful. Everywhere I look, there are new things that aren't in the other places. Where did it all come from? Where did I come from? What am I doing here? I don't understand any of this..."

"Every time I close my eyes, I can see it. A place unlike the one I am currently in, yet similar in many ways. In it, I see beautiful, winged beings living together in peace. Are these images memories, or only imagination? Is this place even real? Will I see it one day? Is any of this real? Right now, I still don't know."

"I've noticed the light and darkness of this place seems to rotate and take turns being the dominant power. I kind of like it. I usually feel more at home during the light time in one of my shapes, and during the dark in the other one. I don't know why, but I feel like I have some kind of... connection to the light and darkness."

"Now when I close my eyes, the world inhabited by the beautiful, winged beings is not so peaceful anymore. I can feel the hatred in them. It's tearing them apart. Two of the beings especially stick out. They share such a hatred for each others, and I don't understand why. They seem to disagree on some things, but surely that can't be all there is?"

"Where... am I now? This surely cannot be the same place as before, can it? But, everything looks the same... except without the life, without the color. Who could have done this? It can't have been... me, can it? I don't like this place anymore. I feel like I need to leave."

"I've come across a small group of creatures. Although the are clearly carnivore and does not show any signs of high intelligence, they do not seem hostile. They also seem to accept my presence. I think I will stay here for a while."

"The two who shared the intensive hatred seems to have disappeared, but the other winged beings are still fighting each others without them. This is wrong, I just know it! I need to do something about it, but what can I do? I don't even know if all of this is real or not..."

"Why do my hands feel so... different? They are covered in some kind of red. What is this? It seems the group of creatures are covered in it as well. The group of creatures that... aren't... moving. Why aren't they moving...? Please move. Just, a little bit. Please, just move! Move, move, MOVE!"

"What is happening to me...? Everything I come across get destroyed, or stop moving if it moved to begin with. I don't like that. Not at all."

"I see something up ahead. It's not like anything I've seen this far. In fact, it looks more like something from the world with the winged beings if anything. Maybe there is someone there that can help me?"

"The creatures here share similarities with the winged beings, but they do not have wings. I ask for help, but instead they shy away from me. I can even see fear in their eyes. Why is that? Those ones are coming towards me though. Maybe they can help me? They are... surrounding me. I don't like this. They are shouting something, but I don't understand them in all of this noise. And what are those things they are pointing towards me? Whatever they are, I think they are trying to intimidate me. Please, I need your help! Why won't anybody listen to me!? Argh! What's this feeling? There's... red coming from my chest. I don't like this. It... it hurts! It hurts very bad! Argh! Please, just listen to me! Why won't you just LISTEN!?"

"No... No, no, no, NO, NO!! It happened again! All these creature has... stopped moving. Theres red everywhere, including over me... I can see the pure terror in their still faces. Everything, destroyed. Everything... dead. I need to leave this place. Now!"

"I have a feeling I'm being hunted. I knew what happened recently would not be forgotten. What am I even doing? Traveling around, destroying place after place, life after life? After all that I've done, am I any better than the winged beings and all their hatred? If I can't even control... whatever it is that is wrong with me, how can I possibly judge others?"

"Everywhere I go, I see conflict. Although it didn't seem like it at first, this place is just as filled with hatred as the world with the winged beings. It's forces are constantly trying to destroy each others and become the lone, dominant power. Even though I don't understand how, I think I came to this place for a reason. It needs help. Just like the light and dark times, the rest of this world need to find a balance. Could I be the solution? But how can I help others if I can't even help myself? I need to learn how to control these powers I was born with, especially that... 'thing' that only bring death and destruction."

Base Stats

Note: All numbers on base stats and abilities are highly estimated, especially the ones related to Divine/Dark Energy generation. Please do not take them into consideration when stating opinions on the kit.

Quotes and Emotes

Note: Xanir has different voices in their different forms. As Angel of Light, it's a fairly standard female voice (think Ashe). As Shadow Demon, it's a fairly standard male voice instead (think Vladimir). As Twilight Fiend however (as well as champion select quote), Xanir speak in both voices at once.

Champion Select

"Day, night, dawn, twilight. An endless dance of lights and shadows."

Movement

As Angel of Light/Shadow Demon

  • "Who am I to judge others actions?"
  • "Do all things happen for a reason?"
  • "Is this truly where I belong?"
  • "This world... So beautiful, yet so deadly."
  • "Control your emotions. Do not let them control you."
  • "Balance and control."
  • "Is peace a future, or a dream?"
  • "Finding true balance is my only path to redemption."
  • "I've done horrible things in the past, and will do many more in the future."
  • "I still hear their cries echo through my head."

As Twilight Fiend:

  • "Behold my true power!"
  • "Nothing holds me down any longer!"
  • "This world is already lost."
  • "Tremble before me pathetic mortals!"

Attacking

As Angel of Light/Shadow Demon

  • "If it is necessary."
  • "It's for the greater good. At least that's what I tell myself."
  • "Keep it together, keep it together..."
  • "If it's the only way."
  • "Is destruction really all I'm good for?"

As Twilight Fiend:

  • "Blood! Yes, yes! More blood!!"
  • "Kill them! Kill them all!"
  • "Leave nothing in one piece!"
  • "Gaze upon the hour of twilight!"
  • "Weaklings deserve to be slaughtered!"

Taunt

As Angel of Light:

  • "That's it, follow the light. Nothing bad can come from it."

As Shadow Demon:

  • "Afraid of the Dark? Wise."

As Twilight Fiend:

  • "Everyone express horror differently. Let's find out how you do it!"

Taunting Enemy Kayle:

  • "Perhaps sometimes, forgiveness is the true justice?"

Taunting Enemy Morgana:

  • "Only the lost walk the path of vengance."

Joke

  • "I just don't understand. What are these 'vampires' everyone keep mentioning?"

Special Quotes

Using Beacon of Hope:

  • "Have hope!"
  • "Light protect us!"
  • "Do not falter!"

Using Touch of Despair:

  • "Despair!"
  • "No escape!"
  • "There's no use running!"

If Zed's Living Shadow is used nearby:

  • "Those shadows... What are they?"
  • "Those shadows are not natural..."

Emotes

Dance: Xanir creates a replica of their other form, the two curtsy/bow to each other and then dance waltz together.

Walk: Much like Heimerdinger, Xanir can toggle between walking and flying through the usage of emotes.

Death (Angel of Light): Xanir falls to her knees and scream in pain as light blast out of her eyes and mouth, leaving only a shade behind.

Death (Shadow Demon): Xanir falls to his knees and scream in pain as shadows flows out of his eyes and mouth, leaving only a shining patch behind.

Death (Twilight Fiend): Xanir writhes in pain and desperately scream in agony as their body slowly withers away, unleashing shadows and strains of light that soon disapear, leaving nothing behind.

Skin Ideas

Ball Night Xanir

Angel of Light is dressed in an Elegant, white dress, Shadow Demon is dressed in a black tuxedo and Twilight Fiend appears as one of those ice sculptures you sometimes see on fancy balls.

Frostfire Xanir

Angel of Light has a fire-theme, with a lot of phoenix aspects to it, while Shadow Demon is very icy. Twilight Fiend has obviously both ice and fire traits to it.

Relationships

Rivals: Kayle Morgana

Doom Mode

Xanir has mastered their control of Twilight, allowing to freely switch in and out of Twilight Fiend, causing Halo's and Touch of Despair's to occasionally spawn near Xanir and making the standard versions of these spells way bigger. Additionally, Xanir permanently has a Twilight Zone around themselves, causing all nearby enemies to loose vision of everything outside of the Twilight Zone.

Changelist (kit only)

[4/9 2014] Renamed Holy and Shadow Energy into Divine and Dark Energy (simply because it sounds better).

[8/9 2014] Even though I am strongly against putting numbers on concepts, I added base stats and numbers anyways because of the CCC.

[9/9 2014] Xanir's basic attacks now also deal (3 x level) (+0.15 AP) bonus magic damage when their abilities are empowered.

[21/11 2014] Increased Twilight Fiend's duration from 7 to 12 seconds. It now cannot be activated while Xanir is empowered. Additionally, Angelic/Demonic aspect no longer genrate Dark/Divine Energy upon cast.

[3/12 2014] Touch of Despair's snare duration changed to 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2 from 1.5 at all ranks. Additionally, its empowered bonus has been changed to increase it's range from dealing bonus damage equal to enemies current health.

[27/2 2015] - Blinding Light's empowered slow percentage increased from 0.5/0.6/0.7/0.8% per Divine Energy to 0.65/0.75/0.85/0.95.

  • Beacon of Lights cooldown reduced to 11/10/9/8/7 from 15 at all ranks, but it's duration has been lowered from 5 seconds to 4 seconds and it's empowered bonus health has been halfed across all ranks.
  • Night Sky will now deal 50% bonus damage to enemies Xanir land directly on and stun them for 0.5 seconds instead of knocking them back. Knocked back enemies are now only slowed while Xanir is empowered, and always by 50%. Instead, the slow and stun duration are now increased by 0.005/0.0075/0.01/0.0125 per Dark Energy as the new empowered bonus instead of increasing slow percentage.

If you made it through the whole post (or just read the parts you cared for), I'd love to hear what you thought about it!

3 forms? Excuse me, I need to flush my brain real quick.

A bit confusing at first, might want to add in a quick subtext above the ultimate (Form Switch), but overall I'm quite impressed you fit in 3 forms to one character :P

Overall in the void of numbers (which isn't a bad thing at all, they mostly just serve to confuse unless they're perfectly balanced), I don't see anything wrong with the kit. Nice work!

Destínum1 votes

Thank you! I'll make sure to add a subtext, all for the sake of what little clarity I can muster with a concept like this. ;)

i LOOOOOVVEE the idea of balance and blend and then turning a support into an assassin for a moment!!!! ommmggg!!!

alas if you were trying to win the form game this epic dog http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/skin-champion-concepts/A8jvAm8e-champion-concept-the-chosen-hound kiiinnnddaa won

** hashtag 4 forms!!**

but i like it none the less

btw im curious how the relationships between Kayle and Morgana are always rivals

shouldn't the dark side like Morgana and hate Kayle and light like Kayle and hate Morgana

and is the chaos evil or good or just the embodiment of madness in the world? all good questions the try and help you build from it

btw you could say his origins are the parts of Morgana and Kayle coming together that they lost after they came to this planet because neither could stay completely whole and the imbalance of good and evil being in one embodiment will always result in chaos

uhhhh ohhh getting deep up in heeeerrrreee

so in a way xanir would have to like Morgana and Kayle because they are where xanir was created from

ooorrrr xanir hates them both because xanir do not want to be such an abomination to the natural world

there should be something in there somewhere to help you go somewhere with it

P.S. if you use any of this you should definitely mention me as like developmental ideas or concept ideas or something lol or if you don't win you could always still include me! :)

well best of luck to yah! :)

Destínum1 votes

I'm glad you liked it! Was kind of nervous about posting it, because I thought people would think the sheer amount of abilities on the character was too absurd.

Anyways, yeah I saw that concept. And I thought my concept was the biggest brainmelt to read. x)

A lot of what your mentioning here is actually already kind of the case (although much of it not specifically mentioned). :) Xanir's origin does indeed have something to do with Kayle and Morganas arrival in Runeterra, although exactly what happened is unknown. If it wasn't obvious, the world Xanir sees when they close their eyes are Kayle and Morganas home world, and the ones that Xanir said stood out specifically are them. Xanirs relationship to the two is... complicated. Xanir doesn't hate or even dislike any of them, they just don't agree on a lot of things. And even though it could make sense for Angel of Light to hate Morgana and like Kayle (and vice versa with the Shadow Demon), Xanir is still the same person in both forms. :)

On the case of the Twilight Fiend, it's basically the embodiment of Xanirs emotions, and it's completely batshit insane. Since Xanir hasn't even existed for very long, there's a lot of emotions they don't actually understand or can control, so the Twilight Fiend takes over when Xanir gets too emotional.

dialMARK4acti0n1 votes

Wow... this has to be the coolest concept for a champion EVER!!! That resource they use is just AWESOME!! Kind of missing a reference for Twilight Fiend's visuals though.

Also, I think, since you already lose the type of Energy of your current form on all abilities, I don't think it's necessary for the BONUSES you get to have a TIMER, I feel like using abilities will already make it so you don't have the bonuses for too long. Maybe, using three abilities would be enough when you're at 100 to get to 50 again.

I'd say, "When the Energy that Xanir are using is above 50, they get a bonus on their abilities"

Otherwise, they're a very cohesive champion. They're lore is THE COOLEST THING!! And I love them!

Btw, obligatory Morgana/Kayle reference ;)

Destínum1 votes

Thank you for the kind words! :D As stated, I searched for a loooooooong time but couldn't find any pictures online that would do the Twilight Fiend justice (and I'm not very good at drawing. :/). Just imagine it as kind of a messed up mutation between Angel of Light and Shadow Demon.

At first, the resource worked exactly like you described it. However, I then realized that would mean you actually have the bonus effect for a shorter time in big teamfights, since they all generate more energy the more targets they affect. Since teamfights is where Xanir is supposed to shine, you can obviously understand yourself that this wouldn't really be that good. By making the bonuses last for a set duration, Xanir is also encouraged to build cooldown reduction, which could potentially allow for additional casts of each spell with the bonus effects.

dialMARK4acti0n1 votes

Oh ok! I didn't understand the Bonus thing correctly... Sorry! It was a good call ;)

Destínum1 votes

No problem at all. I'm always happy to explain my thought process. :)

Arkainjel0011 votes

Great idea! I would add that, because "they" are trying to maintain a balance of light and dark, it would be an interesting tie-in with Kayle and Morgana as rivals, and Shen, Akali, and Kennen as friends.

Destínum1 votes

Thank you. :) I could definitely see some interesting interactions being possible between Xanir and the ninjas, but I did not list them as friends since they don't actually have any personal connection to each other (besides having similar ideals).

ZGM Dazzling1 votes

Wow this entire concept looks wicked awesome! I love the idea of the holy energy and shadow energy being balanced on the same bar its so unique to every other champion in the game. I just don't think hed make it in the lcs for the same reasons as Gnar but none the less hes wicked. Good luck in the contest mate!

Destínum1 votes

Thank you very much! :D

Watch91 votes

I just gotta say this. WHY DOES HE HAVE THREE DIFFERENT SET OF ABILITIES, EITHER I CANT READ OR ITS RIGHT THERE. Angel abilities, Shadow abilities, and Twilight Flend. Way over powered. My view on your concept.

Destínum1 votes

I can completely understand that it seems overwhelming, but if you think about it the Twilight Fiend (which is what makes Xanir have so many abilities) is actually very situational (have no cc and is only strong against enemies that are already low on health). It's meant to be kind of Azir's passive; Something cool and thematically fitting, but not actually that useful. It's abilities are also pretty easy to understand, so I don't think that would be a problem either.

Watch91 votes

Then how about Twilight Flend being on its own. Meaning its own timer on his abilities that dont get affected if you use your q in the other forms. Ex. Nidalee q in human form (spear) is on cooldown, but also her q in her cougar form is also in cooldown due to the fact it was used in the other form

Destínum1 votes

I'm not sure what you're trying to say right now. If you mean the Twilight Fiend should have it's own ability cooldowns, then that's already the case. If you mean that Twilight Fiends abilities should share cooldown with the other two forms, I don't think this would work very well, due to the other forms having separate cooldowns for their abilities (imagine turning into Twilight Fiend from Shadow Demon, only to realize your leap is on cd just because Beacon of Hope is).

Watch91 votes

Nvm I can't read. I liked the original now again. Ignore anything else I posted. I'm an idiot

I dont know how to made shadow demon and the angel , but if u look closely they are two characters of TEKKEN. Angel and Devil Kazuya, they look the same and the idea is somewhat similar. The scar on his chest is same that kazuya's and the colors and wings too . Nice try though!

Destínum1 votes

Well yes, they are just reference pictures I found. Xanir is not supposed to look exactly like the pictures. They are only there to give you an idea of what Xanir looks like. The demon picture is indeed Devil Kazuya, but the angel picture is from League of Angels I believe.

Lore: Content: There were two main problems I had with this lore. Firstly, the character of Xanir seem to know almost nothing, but also almost everything basic. For example: Xanir know the principles of "being hunted", "dominant power"and "death and destruction". I was really confused by all those hints that Xanir didn't know what blood is. Especially since the conflict of heavens, which is describes in Kayle's lore, lasted ten thousand years. Surely there is the possiblity that descending to the human plane makes her mortal but this scenario isn't well explored. Whereby I come to the second problem. The lore has a very strange flow. The reader gets bombarded by riddly descriptions and the content of everything is almost zero despite the lenght. There are crucial topics missing in this lore like origin, purpose and personality. The only information we get are: travelling through planes, receiving aggression from humans, and that's almost it. We see nothing that points towards the fact why she has the title "Child of Twilight". In general you could say that the lore creates more questions as it answers.

Stats: Stats seem to be fine at first glance.

Abilities:

Passive: Hour of Twilight If Xanir remains at 100 Divine or Dark Energy for 4 seconds, they turn into a Twilight Fiend for 7 seconds, disabling their ability to shape shift. The Twilight Fiend has it's own set of abilities that scale with Xanirs level rather than with ranks.

  • missing information about ending of form (max energy or zero energy and form stance (opposite or same))

The core problem I have with this innate is he fact that it isn't an innate, but rather a part of the resource. You see, every champion which has another resource aside mana, life, rage or energy has an innate which isn't tied or limited tied to their resource. Luckily enough the list is quite manageable: Rumble, Rengar, Yasuo. While Rumble receives boni while he has specific resource values, Rengar and Yasuo have innates aside their resources. Rengar leaps with his auto-attacks and Yasuo gains an increases crit chance. And this is what this innate is missing. Aside "goes into a 3rd form when..." it is nothing.

Ultimate (Shape shift): Angelic/Demonic Aspect Static Cooldown: 8 seconds

Xanir transform between an Angel of Light and a Shadow Demon, each with it's own set of abilities.

As an Angel of Light, Xanir gain 425 bonus attack range. Generates 5 Dark Energy upon activation, as well as causing her basic attacks to generate 2 Dark Energy.

As a Shadow Demon, Xanir gain 5/10/15/20 bonus armor and magic resistance. Generates 5 Divine Energy upon activation, as well as causing his basic attacks to generate 3 Divine Energy.

If Xanir transform into Angel of Light while above 50 Divine Energy, or Shadow Demon while above 50 Dark Energy, their basic attacks deal (3 x level) (+0.15 AP) bonus magic damage and their basic abilities has bonus effects for 7 seconds. These effects scale with the rank of Angelic/Demonic Aspect and are more powerful depending on the amount of Divine/Dark Energy Xanir had upon transforming.

There is nothing much to say about an transformation ability per se. Except one thing because it applies actually to all basic abilities which are enhance by the 50 resource points requirement. The core problem with it, since they all scale with the current value, is the fact that it is inconsistent. Especially since there is this anti-synergy in this kit. What I mean by this is the contradiction in this ability with an on-hit effect, which would scale with increased attack speed, the anti-resource gain as an on-hit effect and the fact that you actually want a full resource bar to empower the abilities. This leaves us to the problem that Attack Speed is good and bad for this champion. And this is a huge problem. It almost forces you to cast all abilities after the transformation to receive the most values out of the numbers. But is this good in that situation? Perhaps not. And this is the problem. Each ability and each auto-attack generates anti-resources and thus lowering the power of the abilities themselves. You may want to wait for the perfect opportunity but this will cost you damage in form of auto-attacks and the empowered buff only lasts 7 seconds. This limit pushes you more towards forcing the player to use their abilities without hesitation. But for now we go back to the other problem: the inconsistency. As stated above the problem of this resource is the fact that you have to decide between damage or maximizing an effect. This problem is enhanced through the shifting values since they are based on your current resource value. For example it is possible to reach a resource value below zero while still having the amplifying buff. Then your abilities will do nothing extra. But this is not the main problem. The real problem is that partitially you have CC involved in the amplifying buff. For example the Light Q. Sometimes you slow with 80%, and sometimes with 20%. Even if it is the same rank. This inconsistency creates not only a bad experience for players but also is harder to balance since you have to balance all spells for their minimum and maximum values. It would be much easier to apply only a base value with the enhanced effects and eliminates two problems at once.

Q: Blinding Light Range: 400 Cooldown: 13/12/11/10/9 seconds

After a brief windup, Xanir deals 60/90/120/150/180 (+0.6 AP) magic damage to all enemies in a 110° cone in front of her. Enemies facing towards Xanir are also blinded for 1.5 seconds. Generates 5 Dark Energy for each enemy champion hit.

Divine Energy bonus: Enemies facing towards Xanir are also slowed by 0.5/0.6/0.7/0.8% per Divine Energy that decays over 2 seconds.

In general I'm hard against blinds and silences since they are a I/O button without any counterplay. And this goes the same for "facing abilities". Bad players and especially those who have to play against this champion for the first time will never be able to dodge the blind on purpose. Good players will be able to dodge it sometimes and really good players will be able to do it frequently. But this statement I actually mean that you almost punish the enemy players to be bad. But as mentioned before all "facing abilities" creates inconsistency, especially when they involve CC. Sometimes you land the spell correctly and you can turn a fight with it. This goes especially for Cassiopeia. But in other cases it will do less than you intended.

W: Halo Range: 350 Cooldown: 24/22/20/18/16

Xanir emits a Halo that expands from her current locations over 1 second, healing herself and all allies for 30/40/50/60/70 (+0.15 AP) that the halo's borders touch while expanding. The Halo will then remain for 3 seconds, after which it will contract again, healing allies inside of it for the same amount again. Generates 4 Dark Energy each time a champion is healed.

Divine Energy bonus: Both heals are increased by 0.01/0.015/0.02/0.025% per Divine Energy for every 1% of the healed ally's missing health.

  • missing halo width (probably something like 25 (can be impotant for Flash-like abilities))s

For such a long cooldown the heal is very weak. For example: Alistar's Triumphant Roar heals around the same values in much lesser cooldown and a bigger range as an instant effect.

E: Beacon of Hope Range: 700 Cooldown: 15

Xanir creates an untargetable beacon at a targeted location with 40/80/120/160/200 health that lasts for 5 seconds or untill destroyed. All damage taken by allies within 500 range of the beacon is taken by the beacon instead. Generates 4 Dark Energy each time the beacon takes damage.

Divine Energy bonus: The beacons health is increased exponentially for each ally within its range when it is created.

Health bonus per Divine Energy: 1 ally: 0.2/0.4/0.6/0.8 2 allies: 0.5/1/1.5/2 3 allies: 1.25/2.5/3.75/5 4 allies: 3.125/6.25/9.375/12.5

This is an interesting approach for a shield alternative. However there is one major problem with it. And that is visibility. Each and every shield in LoL has visibility mainly through the health bar. But this is not that easy with this since it is close to impossible to create an intuitive animation/UI element to signify the process. An individual effect for each champion could inherit that the champion is not tied to the beacon. But an areal effect could reduce the significance of the effect for the champions. A combination of both could work but it is really hard. The problem with incosistency I mentioned beforehand in the ultimate has here an extreme case. The health of the beacon can vary between 200 health and 1450 health.

Q: Dark Claws Range: 200 Cooldown: 5 seconds

Xanir slashes forward, dealing 10/20/30/40/50 (+0.4 AP) magic damage to all enemies in front of him and marking them for 3 seconds. Xanir and his allies basic attacks against marked targets deal 4/8/12/16/20 bonus magic damage. Generates 3 Divine Energy each time a marked enemy champion is attacked.

Dark Energy bonus: Basic attacks against marked targets also has 0.4/0.5/0.6/0.7% increased attack speed per Dark Energy.

  • missing information about AoE component (arc, etc.)

First of all, the base damage of this ability is non-existent and even the on-hit damage is ignorable in one on one situations. Surely this concept is meant to be a supportive champion, but even so. In 2 on 2 situations the damage is also non-existent. And in full-fledged team fights the damage can be quite low. The problem of inconsistency also strikes through this ability. First the damage is inconsistent, secondly the attack speed reverse buff is very strange. And lastly the resource gain. Not only, as mentioned earlier, resource gain for this champion is counterproductive since the boni become lower and lower. Especially AP based champions who auto-attack in between can be rather bothersome since they lower the boni for the champions who can use the attack speed perfectly.

W: Touch of Despair Range: 350 Cooldown: 18/16/14/12/10 seconds

After an 0.75 seconds windup, Xanir deal 60/90/120/150/180 (+0.5 AP) magic damage to all nearby enemies and roots them for 1.5 seconds. Generates 4 Divine Energy for each enemy champion hit.

Dark Energy bonus: Touch of Despair also deal 0.09/0.11/0.13/0.15% of enemies current health per Dark Energy.

This here seems rather solid.

E: Night Sky Range: 700 Cooldown: 17/16/15/14/13 seconds

Xanir leaps to a targeted location, dealing 70/100/130/160/190 (+0.2 AP) magic damage to all enemies within 250 range, briefly knocking them back and slowing them by 15% for 1.5 seconds. Generates 6 Divine Energy for each enemy champion hit.

Dark Energy bonus: The slow is increased by 0.3/0.4/0.5/0.6% per Dark Energy.

  • missing knock back distance

Same as before, although the scaling seems rather low.

Q: Corrupted Pulse Range: 275 Cooldown: 4 seconds

Xanir sends a pulse of chaotic energies into a targeted enemy, dealing 20 (+ 10 x level) (+0.4 AP) (+12% of targets missing health) magic damage.

W: Strikes of Insanity Passive: Xanirs basic attacks deal 30 (+ 3 x level) (+ 0.25 AP) bonus magic damage to targets below 40% health. Additionally, these attacks will also increase Xanirs attack speed by 6 (+ 0.8 x level)%, stacking up to 3 times.

E: Death From Above Range: 700 Cooldown: 20 seconds

Xanir leaps to a targeted location, dealing 30 (+10 x level) (+ 0.3 AP) magic damage to all enemies within 150 range. Death From Aboves cooldown is reset upon scoring a kill or assist.

All three abilities, and thus the whole Twilight Form, have the execute emphasis inheriting. The first thing I was thinking was: Why does a support have executing abilities? Sure supports can/have kills, too, but most won't like it, since the carry should get the gold if possible.

Zanryu1 votes

Conclusion: There are two major problems with this concept. First of all, and I can't mentioned it often enough, consistency. Secondly, and this is a problem for all transform champions: Consistence of Abilities assigned to the buttons. What I mean by that is that the all abilities on Q should share a similar mechanic. A good example is Elise Q. They're both single-targeted. In this case it seems that Light Q and Darkness Q are both cone abilities. However Twilight Q is a targeting ability. This looks better with W and E. Although I got a problem with Twilight W. An ultimate (or ultimate Form like Gnar's Case), or in this case difficult-to-enter-form, should feel like something powerful. Yet the W is an passive ability which decreases the feeling of something powerful. Not to mention it scales, again, with attack speed which isn't something we really want in the first place. Not to mention they don't do anything aside the executing part. Aside the consistency problems I have there is also the feeling of the champion. Light and Darkness are two fundamental concepts in many cultures as they represent mostly two different worlds, sides, etc. League of Legends, on the other hand, let you take control of one single entity and guide him over the Fields of Justice. Each champion has a certain specific value and vibe to him/her. Some are agile, some are stealthy and some represent brutal strenght. And here comes the problem into everything. The light form represents something like a healer or protector. The dark form mostly consists of debuffs and damage abilities. And the twilight form is for executing an enemy. The whole concept relies on something of everything rather than something special, like a jack of all trades. And this come together with the famous balancing problems. Where should the champion excel? I can guarantee you that for each role this champion can be in there is another champion that excels her in that regard. Do you want a protecting support?, pick Janna. Do you want a damaging support?, pick Annie. And you probably can do this the whole day. So now comes the real question: Do you wanted to have a Twilight character or a transforming support? I guess we both know the answer to this. It's only a mere advice I can and will give and I hope it helped you in a way.

About consistence of abilities assigned to the buttons:

I know what you're talking about, but your facts are wrong. Both Jayce and Nidalee have completely different mechanics for their counterpart abilities in each form. However, I did actually have this in mind. For Xanir's two normal forms, both Q's are an area in front of you, both W's are an area around you and both E's are a targeted area. I did make the Twilight Fiend a bit different, but that's because it is supposed to be a reset/execution assassin, and not an AoE teamfight like the other two forms. To compensate and because of the fact that the Twilight Fiend is very situational (and the reason for the W), I made the Twilight Fiend's kit pretty simplistic and straight forwards so you can actually use it properly once you actually decide to trigger the form (you won't get as much mechanical practice with it as with the other two forms, so yeah).

About champion feel: Much like Gnar, Xanir is ment to bring a new and unique playstyle to the game, rather than a specific niché.

As for the thematics, I do not see any problems at all with a character that's based around the balance between light and darkness (and what happens when one side becomes to dominant). If you think this is not a proper concept to base a character upon, then that's honestly your personal opinion and nothing else. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you think every character should be "black or white", "good or evil" etc. Well, that's not really how most champions are. Instead, they are "shades of grey".

Destínum1 votes

Like Mega Gnar's W, Dark Claws AoE component is just an area in front of Xanir, presumably as wide as Xanir's hitbox. Not sure about the knockback distance from Night Sky, but would probably be similar to a Maokai Q. As for numbers, these are just filler numbers (since the champion can't actually be tested in practice) and only serve as rough baselines.

As for the Twilight Fiend, it's not really meant to be a core part of Xanir's playstyle. Mainly something cool thematically (like Azir's passive) but very situational (in this case for cleaning up kills after a fight).

I'm sorry, what? You're saying that as a mechanic, the ability to disable someones basic attacks or abilities for a short time is bad, but the mechanic to prevent someone from acting altogether (stun) isn't? If you're basing this on the fact that Riot has removed silences from several champions, it's because those where targeted abilities on assassins that could 100-0 you for it's duration. Soraka has a zone-ability that silences all enemies in it for up to 1.5 seconds (and this is a kit that was released only a few days ago). The reason why it works though is because Soraka is a low-damage support. You're also saying that all abilities should be such no-brainers about what they do, so that someone who doesn't even know what the ability is or does should be able to play properly against it? And that abilities shouldn't punish someone for being bad? And that a delayed and short-ranged ability that can be both dodged or just avoided by turning away lacks counterplay? And that abilities can't have clear fail vs success situations? Again, I'm sorry, but there's just nothing in this statement that I can agree on.

For such a long cooldown the heal is very weak. For example: Alistar's Triumphant Roar heals around the same values in much lesser cooldown and a bigger range as an instant effect.

Halo width = range = 350 radius

The ability is supposed to be weak while not empowered, because that's the whole point of Xanir's play style.

This is an interesting approach for a shield alternative. However there is one major problem with it. And that is visibility. Each and every shield in LoL has visibility mainly through the health bar. I don't think visibility would be a problem at all. The beacon would obviously have a clearly visible area around it which indicates it's range. Other than that, it could just be a "shield" covering every champions heathbar that get reduced no matter "who's" shield is damaged.

Again, I disagree about the consistency. This is again to clearly state Xanir as strong in teamfights and while empowered, while weak in smaller fights and while not empowered.

You have seriously misunderstood something here:

These effects scale with the rank of Angelic/Demonic Aspect and are more powerful depending on the amount of Divine/Dark Energy Xanir had upon transforming.

That is, if you transform into Shadow Demon while at max Dark energy, the bonus effects will be at their maximum power for the entire duration of the "empoweredness". Therefore, most things you've written in this post is actually irrelevant because I thought of it too while designing the champion.

As for the inconsistency of having cc as empowered effects, I straight out disagree with you. Because you can see on a bar how powerful your abilities will become, it is way more predictable and consistent than things like Ashe's ult or Olaf's Q (who both have a longer duration depending on how far they traveled, which is way harder to judge).

On another note, the whole point of the "empowered periods" is to give Xanir clear windows of being strong and enemies clear moments of Xanir being weak to take advantage of. The way the Energies are generated (like the on-hit from Dark Claws) is also like they are so that Xanir can reach these "empowered windows" more often when there are many allies/enemies involved (like in big teamfights where Xanir is supposed to excel) and less often when there are few allies/enemies (like in a 1v1/2v2 scenario, where Xanir is supposed to be weaker). It's all about having meaningful strengths and weaknesses that both you and opponents can play around.

depending on the amount of Divine/Dark Energy Xanir had upon transforming.

It seems like I overread that part. lol

The you is the problem. The enemy probably won't notice that.

consistent than things like Ashe's ult or Olaf's Q (who both have a longer duration depending on how far they traveled, which is way harder to judge).

I highly disagree on that point either. I think they are more constant since the range between minimum and maximum depends on the range and not on something only you watched out for. Honestly, I almost never look at the resource bar of an opponent since I always expect everything. Items like Athene's are another reason why I don't take certain values in resource bars for real.

Additionally you only have stronger effect under certain circumstances. Other champions have only one ability with such an effect. But here every single ability is affected and the differences are almost I/O values all the time. You have to remember you have to balance both, without boni and with boni.

Destínum1 votes

It seems like I overread that part. lol

It happens. x)

The you is the problem. The enemy probably won't notice that.

First, if they're not paying attention to their enemies resource bar, they're doing something wrong.

Second, why is it a problem that the enemies can't predict precisely how powerful an ability will be? For that, they'd need to take things like stats and builds into consideration as well (there's even champs who's cc scale with AP, so it's pretty much the same scenario there in that case).

I still don't see any problems with a champion who's abilities are empowered for a duration, because it already exists in the form of Shyvana for example, but I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on that point.

About the lore: I guess I'm not making it clear enough (which is my bad), but Xanir's story is supposed to take you through their first time in existence. Because of this, Xanir has no experience of substantial things (such as blood) and therefore can't identify what it is. However, Xanir does have instincts (like any other creature or animal) and does posses a fairly well developed mind. Therefore, they can identify what is a living creature and what is not and does posses understanding of concepts like "being hunted", "death", etc.

About your second problem with the lore, it was written with the current format Riot writes bios in mind. Therefore, it's meant to create a perception of who the character is, not be a spoonful of practical information about it. It is supposed to create questions and leave things out for speculation. Take Braum's lore as an example. It explains pretty much nothing about his origins or how he got to where he is today. However, it does give you a great perception of his persona. With that said, how is Xanir's lore lacking in giving you a perception of their personality and purpose? Did I really execute it that poorly? As for origins, the lore pretty much is Xanir's origin. I thought I made it pretty obvious that it is related to Kayle and Morgana's homeworld. However, I left out the details about how Xanir actually came to be intentionally, and it would honestly ruin a lot about the character if I didn't. If you wanted, I could also go through with you the reason for each part of the lore.

About the passive: Xanir is meant to go back to the form they where upon transforming, but the Divine/Dark Energy is reset to 50/50. The reason I left it out is because I didn't really think it was important to include t.b.h. and would just make the "tooltip" unnecessary long.

I really don't understand though why you think it lacks an innate. How is enhanced basic attacks but silenced (rumble) more worthy of being a passive than another form? You could in that case make the same argument about Gnar's passive (who is the only champion to use rage btw, whereas others use fury).

Zanryu1 votes

I really don't understand though why you think it lacks an innate. How is enhanced basic attacks but silenced (rumble) more worthy of being a passive than another form?

The problem I have is that you don't actually have an innate during the other forms. And thus you don't have an innate for that time. Since the current innate is tied to the resource there is actually no innate at all.

Gnar's passive (who is the only champion to use rage btw, whereas others use fury).

My bad, in german rage and fury are the same.^^

Take Braum's lore as an example. It explains pretty much nothing about his origins or how he got to where he is today.

That's not quite right. His lore explains perfectly that he's actually a goat/sheepherder who loves to help everyone. One day while helping somebody he got his doorshield which now is his trademark.

A core problem of all lores, especially riddly one, are avaiable in the head of the writer. However readers don't have the possible knowledge you have and thus lacking possible information which would be neccesary

I guess, but why is this a problem when Xanir has plenty of passive effects on their ult, plus a lot of other abilities? Gnar has the same problem in that case, and he's doing just fine.

That's not quite right. His lore explains perfectly that he's actually a goat/sheepherder who loves to help everyone. One day while helping somebody he got his doorshield which now is his trademark.

That's still part of his personality though. It has nothing to do with where he was born, how he was raised, how he got so big and strong, or even why he likes helping people so much.

This is a very well balanced champion (even for having three different forms that each have their own kit). I love the concept of light and dark in one single being and the power of both being able to combine into one super force for a time. I only have one question about the transformation into the Twilight Fiend and the energies. It says if either form has 100 of the opposing energy for a time, the champion will transform into the Twilight Fiend. Will all of the energy in both sides be expelled once the champ transforms? Or will the energy that it has built up in that specific form it is currently in get expelled and the other energy stays? If only one energy would drop to 0 upon Twilight transformation, the other form would still have a good amount of energy to transform again really fast. You might want to clarify this in the ability description. But, besides that, this concept is awesome.

Destínum1 votes

I'm glad you liked it. :) The Twilight Fiend doesn't use either resource, but once you transform back, you will have 50 of each type of energy (which is the default that you have upon respawning). If it wasn't clear enough, you will always have exactly 100 total dark/divine energy. They are basically two resources that fight for space on the same bar if that makes any sense.

This is all explained in the "gameplay description", but perhaps I should move it down to be just above the kit?
