Jayce Skin

Why is it 1350? He already has a 1350 skin, as well as a 975 skin. Why are Jayce skins so expensive? And when will you make 750RP skins for him?

This skin includes:

  • All new model and texture
  • All new particles
  • All new recall animation
  • All new SFX and voice processing

Please keep in mind that 1350 RP skins are always discounted to 975 RP when initially released. :]

I mean this in the sincerest way Katey, but when you say this everytime it is like rubbing salt in a wound. The reason they're discounted on release is because back when the new price tier was announced, there was a LOT of lashback from the community over it. Rather than back down from the new tier, Riot made a promise to have it discounted at 975 on release.

We could go into depth about how statistically Riot sells the most skins in the first few days of them being released, and how discounting on release is a good and bad thing because of this, and we could go into detail about the fact that there is a big disconnect between what the community believes=1350 price tier, and what Riot has defined as a 1350, 975, 750, and lower price tiers to be (Specifically the SFX/voice processing seems to be a big point of contention.)

At the end of the day you guys are trying to sell a product, but if your community believes you are trying to swindle them it is bad for business (Look at Armor of the Fifth Age Taric, Riot believed it was worth 975 because it had minor model alterations, but the community felt it was a recolor with a 975 price tag because it was popular. Community opinion EVENTUALLY swayed Riot's opinion, but that was years later)

The price tiers aren't clear, as there are obvious examples of skins breaking the tiers (and not always in the good way, like Primetime Draven or Surprise Party Fiddlesticks) and I just wanted to make this clear, because when you point out that they're discounted... it is like poking a bruise. It might not be ill-intended, as I'm ought to believe from your community interaction, but it does rub people the wrong way.

Fair?

Yeah, not gonna lie, it doesn't sound like 'you can get it for cheaper if you buy it early!' so much as 'stop complaining about the price, if you buy it immediately you don't have to bother with it (so buy it before you have to pay more money!)'.

I understand where you're coming from.

I can see where you could argue that not every skin falls into the outline of price tiers. TL;DR, you're right. For example, some skins receive quality of life particles (i.e. Warden Sivir) because it wouldn't make sense for her to have a new weapon model, but for her to still be throwing her original weapon.

I'd like to clarify Primetime Draven and Surprise Party Fiddlesticks were permanently discounted to 975 RP as thank yous to the community - one for supporting esports, and the other for helping League grow (Surprise Party Fiddlesticks came out around LoL's second birthday).

If we're creating a thematic, and we think voice processing would really fulfill the fantasy, we'll shoot for that. That was the case with Forsaken Jayce.

I think Surprise Party Amumu would be another solid example of really rounding out the Surprise Party thematic. He's a 1350 RP skin, but it has a lot of neat odds and ends, such as his candle going out when the rain cloud appears, or having two different events for his ult, depending on if he hit anyone with it or not. Sure, that skin could have been 975 RP, but I don't think it would have been the best it could be.

From your personal perspective, what would you consider to be a solid 1350 RP skin (could be an existing skin, or you could simply list features)? How does this differ from a 975 RP skin, in your opinion? I'm more curious on your perception than anything 'cause sure, we have our guidelines, but I think it's important to understand perception of them as well.

Maybe it's because I started in beta, but I think that the 1350 price tier is kinda stupid. I'm used to paying 975 for recolors and legendary price for particles, so...

kitcat3001 votes

Your reasoning makes no sense. If your used to paying 1820 for particles, why is paying 1350 for the same thing stupid then?

Personally, I just want another go-over of all the skins to have them placed in the proper tiers. Certain skins, mostly the release skins for champions released before 2014, (Lulu, Fiora, Naut, Hecarim etc.) are all egregiously outside of what the price tiers categorize them as. Similar to Armor of the Fifth Age Taric, if these skins have model or particle changes they are negligible and not evident enough to warrant them being 975 skins. (Muay Thai and Dragon Fist Lee, Dynasty Ahri, Imperial Lux, Silverfang Akali, Full Metal Pantheon... the list goes on...)

Skins released in the past two years have been MUCH more consistent, but that shouldn't justify older skins not being properly categorized. If you compare GB Morgana, to Blood Moon Akali, I guarantee you you're going to say the GB skin is easily a 975 quality, and the BM skin has no reason to be 975 (other than popularity perhaps?) and that's the problem. Some of these skins are popular and improperly categorized. Some of these skins are probably awful sellers (Subterranean Naut) and are improperly categorized. And some skins just don't seem to have the particles needed to be 975 skins. So there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason on older skins being priced the way they are, even if newer skins fit the categories much more accurately.

IMO, voice processing shouldn't be an extra 375 RP. If the main difference between a 750 skin and a 975 skin is particles (which are highly noticable, and readable), then I see no reason why we as players should pay even more than the price of particles just for voice processing on some skins. I get it if the particles go above and beyond a normal skin, (Battlecast particles, Steel Legion particles, Pool Party particles) and maybe a little oomf in recall animations or joke animations. Those things, the above-and-beyond particles+animations are worth the extra 375, not Voice Processing.

To be FAIR; the 750RP tier didn't exist until they altered the prices of A LOT of skins, including Armor of the Fifth Age Taric, which was added to the new tier which would cost 750RP, and would only feature remodels.

Oh, I will pay for it regardless because I love playing Jayce! I was just curious as to why he has expensive skins lol. Most champs don't have 2 1350's, let alone 1.

Voice processing will move a skin from 975 RP to 1350 RP. We felt that in order to truly fulfill the thematic in this skin, voice processing should be added. His normal voice is a lot more light-hearted, and this skin...well... isn't! In Forsaken Jayce's case, he's also got all new particles, as well as new SFX for his skills, which I think makes him one of the more solid 1350 RP skins we've made.

Yep, pretty similar to the case of Arcade Hecarim . Needs his voice to be somehow of a "gamey" type instead of your everyday dark horse.

I wish HeartSeeker Varus got a Voice Change. Sucks to look that pretty but to mope about your family being dead. :'(

I mean, I'll buy it.. It just doesn't make sense why his first skin was a 1350, then his third skin is a 1350.

Mercury Knyght2 votes

Its because they processed the voice and added new vfx. That normally bumps the price up to 1350 rp.

Why do you even want a 750RP skin? I cri everitiem when a Champion I like gets one of the "crappy" tier ones.

And you're not complaining that Chogath is the only one with 2 legendary skins?
