Advancing Technology | All Server Regions Merging In The Future?| Pro's & Con's

I would like to start off by saying I'm not a network engineer, I did do some work as a 25B (Information technology specialist) setting up networks in the Army, so I have a brief understanding of how the network hierarchy works. But, I would like to see a future where there isn't this huge skill divide between regions, where a player from NA like me, can play against a player from Korea without having to move to Korea and create an account on their server ect.

Riot has recently announced that the EUW and EUNE servers are merging which makes sense, I haven't seen the announcement come from riot and don't know where to find it. I get why they would want to merge those regions so its believable , but it got me thinking... Lets say in the future we advance our technological capabilities to the point that great distances are no longer an issues, meaning, you could play the game as you are now with players from a difference region, no problems, smooth sailing. Click here to see a post from 2017, comments of people going over issues of servers merging

So lets pretend we are in the future, RIOT Announces that in 2030 they are merging all servers... Comment Below both Your Pro and Con, I want to see where this goes.

**My Pro ** I think what server merging would allow is for different cultures to come together and really learn from each other, in game and maybe even outside the game. For instance, I lived in South Korea for a year and many South Korean's know english pretty well... I was speaking to a Korean soldier (Also known as a Katusa) and one of the things he said really stuck with me. He said: "The Americans he's met think that koreans should learn to speak english because they think their language is superior, but that's not true", he believed that if we are to work together, each side should learn to speak eachothers language, not just them learning ours. What he said was an eye opener because I never thought to try to learn their language tbh.

**My Con ** RIOT has never merged every region together before so there are bound to be some things that will cause unforeseen problems.

We already know that we can not currently Merge all server regions, that is not the focus, assume they are already merged and running smoothly, what are the pro's and con's to merging?

We are currently limited by the speed of light which makes it impossible to go under ~150 ms for EU players playing on NA and vice versa. To achieve what you're proposing, we would need fully functioning quantum servers, and that's a very distant future.

I don't understand why riot wants to merge euw and eune together but I don't see the problem in it. However,

Your pro- This may cause a language barrier for the sake of communication but we got pings to cover that. But league is a game not a class to learn other people's cultures especially how many players can be a bunch of toxic kids. I'm Lebanese, so naturally I know Arabic, but my English is very good and my French is...Well actually weak. I've encountered Arabs in my games but mostly more from Egypt and rarely from Lebanon.

Your Korean friend is not wrong about learning each other's language and he's right. But through league (sorry if I misunderstand it)? But the main issue will be is how long it will take to learn them. As I mentioned above, I'm Lebanese and believe me, learning our language is hell, even for us, let alone learning the traditional and our own dialect.

Learning other cultures and languages are not as hyped as stereotyping. Or so that's how I think. I've encountered racist slurs in my time in this game and even here on boards actually.

Your cons- Well better expect some heavy bugs so I recommend to avoid ranked games for a month. Remember the clash disasters? Something like this can happen. I hope I'm wrong though but all in all riot has to be 100% sure. But as one might suspect, a game like League has unpredictable bugs that not even a 100% work can prevent it.

More cons : Turkish server is toxic that there are at least 20 perma bans every day. I played there once and I regret it

Here's an example from Garena: The Indonesia server closed down, so all of us moved to the Singapore server Some of the Singaporeans (not all of them) called us "Indogs" and said we should go back to our country. Also, some Indonesians insult the Singaporeans as well Do you know how to be safe there? Speak English If someone tries to defend Indonesia, you are automatically considered an "indog", even if you're a Singaporean What did Garena/Riot did? Nothing. No ban, no news, nothing.

There's a cool FB group where Singaporean & Indonesian can talk tho
