(Champion Concept) Balikaret, the Dead God
LORE The sands scorched Renekton's skin as if he was standing within a furnace. It was nothing to him but a mild irritation, but what a mild irritation it was. Xerath hovered ahead, guiding him towards who knows what. Xerath had foretold that all would be revealed when they arrived, but his patience was starting to wane and his temper rise. After several more minutes, Renekton finally let loose. "WHAT IS IT WE ARE SEARCHING FOR XERATH! YOUR GAMES WASTE MY TIME!" Xerath turned back as if to glare at him, before turning around and continuing on for several feet. Renekton nearly exploded in rage if it was not for the fact that Xerath stopped shortly afterwards and descended down to the ground. "Your timing is impeccable Renekton. We are, in fact, right where we need to be." Renekton walked forward before staring down a ginormous hole that, as if magically, was not filled with sand. It went down seemingly without end. Something was horribly wrong with whatever was at the bottom of the hole. The hole smelled of rotten or burnt flesh, either of which was a smell most foul to the Ascended's nose. "We're finally here and you brought me to a magical dead flesh hole. Magus, you are lucky you lack blood." "This is no 'magical dead flesh hole' Renekton. Look carefully." An extremely small set of stairs spiraled down the side of the hole, downwards towards the bottom and into the darkness. "Watch your step. I need you alive for the next part." Renekton released a frustrated huff before beginning the descent down into the hole. Along the walls, a story was told. "You can still read, correct? If you wish to know what's at the bottom of this chasm, you would do best to read what's on the walls on the way down." Renekton glared at the Magus for the small insult before turning to the walls and reading what story it told in his head.
Many moons ago, when Shurima had first learned the magic required to create the Ascended, those around their growing empire were forced to learn of a way to fight back or be assimilated. An ancient empire, with a name now last to time, attempted to create their own Ascended. A demonic entity that had made the desert its home promised a warrior that could kill any Ascended Shurima possessed. However, it required one simple ingredient that the empire foolishly attempted and failed to get: the blood of an Ascended warrior. Not all that much was needed either. A mere drop of the Ascended's blood would be enough. However, as much as the empire tried, they could not recover blood for the demon. Thus, the demon unleashed his unfinished creation upon the empire. The beast, resembling a giant human with a head like a scorpion, slaughtered them all. After performing this massacre, the beast began to roam the desert before coming into contact with the Shuriman empire. http://media.wizards.com/2017/images/daily/cardart_E01_A-Reckoning-Approaches.jpg Art by Yeong-Hao Han The Ascended fought with great might and, to their surprise, the beast was able to take on five Ascended warriors at once. However, as more Ascended came to help, the beast eventually fell. The Ascended cheered, celebrating their victory over this demonic creation. However, it was too late before they noticed that the beast had seemingly come back from the dead and was upon the nearest Ascended. http://magic.wizards.com/sites/mtg/files/lypcVzxcsu_POX3.jpg Art by Svetlin Velinov With a swift blow, the beast sunk its stinger down into the head of the Ascended. The others gasped in surprise as their comrade, in a daze, slowly walked towards them. Their ally began moving his mouth as if to speak, but no words came out. Only the gurgling sounds of a dying Ascended. Not even a minute had passed before the Ascended collapsed onto the ground, dead and foaming at the mouth. The beast stood over its kill as if to celebrate its own victory as the Ascended falsely had. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DCs58QHUAAAlbWC.jpg Art by Daarken The Ascended slowly retreated back, fear gripping their minds. The beast had died. They had seen it fall, and yet here it was, standing before them having just killed their brother in arms. It slowly began to approach them, gaining speed until it was sprinting at them with a speed they had only seen from other Ascended. It was almost upon them when Setaka, the Ascended warrior-queen, appeared between it and them. In one foul swoop, she pinned it down onto the ground with powerful magic and immobilized the beast. Unable to move, Setaka quickly turned towards the other Ascended and instructed them to create this very hole. With haste and using all the magic they could spare, the Ascended created this hole and shortly afterwards, threw the beast down into it. It was then that Setaka made it so only the Ascended could traverse down into this prison and made sure the beast stayed here for the rest of time. Not even the sands of Shurima itself could fall down into the prison. Descend with hesitation brother or sister, for it is without doubt the beast still lives to this day and waits for the one thing it could never obtain: the blood of an Ascended.
When Renekton had finally reached the bottom, Xerath was waiting for him. Around them was huge cavern filled with darkness. "You know what lurks in this darkness. Be prepared." The air stiffened and all was silent. Renekton's breathing slowed as much as it could, and he gripped his blade with a strength unrivaled. Xerath slowly looked around the room until something caught his eye. A set of glowing orbs hovered in the distance. They did not move, but Xerath was uncertain what they were. All of his questions were answered when they all closed to blink and a figure easily twice as large as Renekton sprinted at them with a speed unmatched by anything Xerath had ever seen. The beast was still alive, and it was upon them. Throwing an orb of intense magic, Xerath temporarily halted the beast long enough for him to reach out and attempt to contact it's mind. An unending chittering filled Xerath's mind. Maddening and demonic, the chittering filled Xerath's infinite mind. The beast's own mind almost overcame Xerath's when Xerath remembered all the years he had waited for his revenge on Azir and all of Shurima. With a burst of power and magic, Xerath filtered out the chittering and clutched the beast's mind in his hands. With a quick clutch of his hand, the beast's eyes glowed a vibrant eye. Its movement had stopped, and it turned to Xerath. The Magus turned to Renekton, who was still clutching his blade in case the beast attacked. "Make a cut." Renekton realized what was about to happen and hesitated for a brief moment. What was this thing? What would it do to the surface above? Then, the image of Nasus filled Renekton's mind and his hesitation disappeared. In an instant, Renekton made a quick cut on his body, smeared his own blood on his hand, and held it out to the beast. A squirming and incredibly creepy mouth slowly lowered down before a small tongue quickly licked the blood from Renekton's hand. The beast's back quickly arched backwards, as if in extreme pain. Its maddening chittering filled the caverns, causing Renekton to hold his hands to his ears. Then, suddenly, there was silence. The beast slowly regained its former composure, its chitinous outer shell cracking and snapping as it readjusted. Its eyes still glowed a bright blue to show Xerath still controlled it. Whatever Xerath had promised it had worked enough for Xerath to control it. Xerath and Renekton began back up the hole with the beast following behind, scaling the hole's wall. It stopped upon reaching the top, unable to move past the magical barrier. With a blast of arcane energy that descended from the sky, Xerath broke the barrier. The beast slowly crept out from its former prison and stared at the horizon. As if to warn the world of its return, it filled the desert with the sound of its chittering. "The Dead God has returned. Balikaret, it which cannot die, will be the battering ram I need to finally end the cursed Shuriman empire once and for all." https://227rsi2stdr53e3wto2skssd7xe-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/The-Scorpion-God-Hour-of-Devastation-MtG-Art-730x280.jpg Art by Lius Lasahido Renekton stared at the beast and smiled. He could sense Nasus' death coming closer and closer. It was nearly time. Death and carnage was coming.

GAMEPLAY PHILOSOPHY If you are man (or woman) that likes to win games through sheer endurance, Balikaret is the one for you. There is no champion out there that defies death as much as Balikaret. His entire makes him a huge threat to take down a lone and, sometimes, an even bigger threat to take on as a team. Excluding Fiora and possibly Jax, there isn't a champion that can duel better than Balikaret. His passive allows him to revel in prolonged combat, gradually gaining more and more maximum health for the rest of the match the more he basic attacks enemy champions, causing his opponents to question prolonged fights with the beast. His first ability, Numbing Sting, is an incredibly strong debuff that directly reduces the damage his target deals, meaning anyone who wants to be dealing damage should make sure to stay far away from Balikaret. That is, at least, if they can. His second ability, Hardened Chitin, grants him a powerful shield that synergizes with his innately large health pool due to his passive. Furthermore, if he toggles the ability on, things get really crazy as he gains a large amount of bonus attack damage the more shield he has gained from the first part of this ability. Even more, he gains an increasingly large amount of movement speed until he is moving at a respectable speed. If he collides into an enemy with a basic attack, he will deal a decent bit of bonus damage and stun his target, but lose all his momentum. However, Balikaret will quickly regain the momentum in order to unleash another stunning attack on his target. This is the main reason that Balikaret is an amazing duelist, as he can stun a single target several times throughout a fight if they cannot get help from an ally. This can be prevented however. If Balikaret takes damage and that damage isn't negated by a shield he currently has, he will lose all of his momentum and be unable to stun his target. This can make focusing down Balikaret at least for the beginning of a fight essential. His third ability, Demonic Chittering, is what allows Balikaret to sustain himself throughout a fight as well as get a crowd of enemies off of him if they all collapse onto him. The ability will force them all to flee and heal Balikaret for each champion hit this way. It is fairly simple and arguably weak ability damage wise, but it gets the job done for self-peel and sustain. Finally, his ultimate, God Killer, is a real stinger. Its a very short ranged ability that functions similar to Malzahar's ultimate, where the target is suppressed for a while unless Balikaret is interrupted. However, Balikaret's ultimate comes with a rather lethal effect. If he can complete the channel, his target will be afflicted with strong venom that applies Grievous Wounds to them for 15 seconds. After a brief amount of time, they will also begin to be slowed by a small amount, but for the the rest of the venom's duration, which can add up to be a powerful slow. Then, for the last 5 seconds of the venom's duration, the target will take a very large amount of magic damage each second. If they survive, congrats to them. However, with the venom's slowing effect and the likely chance that Balikaret is still pursuing them, it can make it difficult for a lone champion to escape the clutches of death once Balikaret has used God Killer on them. However, Balikaret wouldn't be called "it which cannot die" if that was all. The big, big ability that makes Balikaret a late game champion is the second part of his passive. For every 2500 maximum health that Balikaret had when he respawned, he will have a stack of 'Everlasting' that will cause him to revive upon taking lethal damage that life. Once late game comes around and Balikaret begins to have over 5000 maximum health, forcing the enemy to plow through at least three full health bars of Balikaret's, the real fun begins. Balikaret is a champion that truly only cares about outlasting his enemies, and that he can do if given the chance. His incredibly resilient nature will force any team to focus him down hard for all of his lives, giving Balikaret's team some breathing room. The big issue is getting to that point in the game. If Balikaret is never given the chance to achieve such a state, it won't matter all that much. Much like Nasus, Veigar, and other infinitely scaling champions, the best way to play around Balikaret is to simply end the game with quick speed or find a way to deal with his immense power later on.
