(Champion Concept) Salintsad, the Arch Pontiff
LORE Salintsad is what most would likely call the unholy child of a knight and a cleric. Decked out in extremely durable armor and holding an ominous mace that holds what is thought to be a bell inside, but perhaps... something else, Salintsad is truly a force of nature for all who face him. Born and raised within Demacia, Salintsad was brought up by a very religious family that many thought to be under the illusion that some forms of magic within the world were not natural and, in fact, provided to mankind by a greater being beyond what anyone could comprehend. This type of magic came to be known as Holy magic. As the miracles performed by this extremely powerful form of magic spread to the ears of many across the land, it was up to Salintsad to be their shepherd in this growing church. However, what made this magic so powerful? That is a dark secret indeed. Salintsad grew up believing any who did not believe in the Holy magic were heretics that deserved death. However, he would soon realize that far over half of Demacia fell under this description. The kingdom of Demacia was, outside of some branches of the military, overall magic free. Anyone who tried to use magic outside of innately magic artifacts in their normal life were commonly seen as weaklings who relied on the magic to live. Salintsad not only embraced this description, but tried to have others join him in such a lifestyle. His family was eventually kicked out of their village for their extremely zealous nature towards their beliefs. However, this would come to be the very act that made the church what it would come to be. Starting their own village, Salintsad's parents used the Holy magic to bring up walls to protect them. They changed the landscape to be extremely advantageous for their new town. This act of power would bring the first few to their town. The city came to be known as Tollin, which housed the great church that came to be known as the Church of Tollintsad in the later years. Salintsad's parents used much of their energy getting the town to a functional level and had to rest, leaving Salintsad in charge of the town. Salintsad would have been able to join the military at this time, but his family's nature made the king reject them. Now leading the town, Salintsad was able to discover all the secrets of the magic his family had so cherished for years. He discovered all that it could do... and what would fuel it. Blind to the darkness within the magic, Salintsad began to collect the fuel needed to power his family's magic. The miracles Salintsad performed were at almost god-like levels. He was more powerful with the magic than both his parents combined ten fold. Indeed, even the king came to fear the Church of Tollintsad, a name that the community had given the church as a combination of Salintsad's and the town of Tollin's names. Eventually, even the most respected members of the military bowed to the church and saw their god as the true power within this world. Noxus, Demacia's long rival, even feared the church. Only the bravest of assassins dared to venture into their realm and almost all of these assassins would disappear from the map. It seemed that Demacia had two options: combine with this new power within their borders and change their society forever, or consider them an enemy and go to war. With the war against Noxus already costing many lives, the choice, despite being painful to make, was obvious for the king. Embracing the church into Demacia, Salintsad was welcomed into Demacia with a blessed suit of armor that was made to counter any potential assassination. Indeed, the only chance anyone had at bringing down this powerful pontiff was to face him head on and overcome his magic. However, even the most powerful legends within Demacia respect the church and Salintsad's power. Even Fiora, known for her cockiness and belief in her own power, has said that only a true fool would challenge Salintsad head on. In fact, even she would not. You would first have to stop his magic. The main question is how? What fuels the magic? That, as said, is a dark secret indeed.
Fuel For Fire
Salintsad's quarters were not a place many were without a purpose. The old man rushed to the door of Salintsad to alert him of the growing evil outside the town. Bursting through the doors, the man was exhausted but still bowed to the arch pontiff.
"Sir... the town... the gate... Noxus..."
Salintsad's head, always within his golden helmet, stirred to look up at the man. He was sitting at his table, looking at a map of the land. Many pieces were placed along the map, with one large golden crown in the middle to symbolize Tollin. The town had grown since it had risen from the earth. It was at least half the size of the Demacian capital now and offered sanctuary to all who gave their life to the Holy magic. Salintsad looked down upon the old man, who was breathless. Salintsad was several feet taller than the old man. He was truly a giant among men. With steps that seemed to shake the heavens, Salintsad marched to the doorway and spoke three words.
"Come. Watch. Learn."
These were the words told to many when they first entered the town of Tollin. Now Salintsad planned to have the old man do just that as he marched slowly down the golden streets of Tollin. Bells were ringing to warn those of an invasion, but Salintsad's "bell" was the only one that could be heard as he walked down the streets. His mace was larger than him, but he wielded it like it was a toy. He did not treat it as such of course. The mace was, in fact, far more important than anyone realized. It was nighttime, but Salintsad himself lit the streets with his blazing armor. It was a magnificent sight to see for the townspeople within their homes. The gates of Tollin opened to let Salintsad out to where many of his followers were holding off the roaming army from Noxus. One of the men approached Salintsad before bowing and speaking.
"Arch Pontiff, Noxus has never been so bold as to bring an army here. We have never fought such a foe. What are your orders?"
Salintsad took to a knee to see face to face with his follower. He was visibly frightened, as Salintsad feared. He took hold of the man's face so that he would look Salintsad in the eyes.
"You have come. Now it is time to watch."
The man shook his head to say he understood before slowly facing back towards the roaming army. Many profane shouts spilled from the mouths of the Noxians ahead as they prepared for a second charge. This time, Salintsad would not allow such pain to fall upon his people. Taking five steps forward, a golden circle formed underneath Salintsad that lit the area around him to such brightness that you could have believed that the sun had risen out from the horizon just to shine upon the man. Something similar in appearance to a rune formed within the circle and then, almost all at once, all the sound in the area stopped. The Noxians were confused as their shouts and commands became mute. Then, in a burst of light, it happened. Salintsad's mace rung four times like a bell with each toll of the mace causing the air around Salintsad to be pushed back. There was something ominous about this to the Noxians that weren't swept off their feet. It sounded like a bell, but there was something more to it. Something much more nefarious than even the Black Mist of the Shadow Isles. Fear gripped the roaming army, despite the years of training they had undergone. Once the fourth toll had finished, Salintsad slowly walked towards the Noxian army. The church's mentally weakest followers thought their leader marched to his death, but those who had stood beside the Arch Pontiff for much of the town's lifetime knew better. To the surprise of many, the front men of the Noxian army began to take many steps back before falling down onto their backs. They began to quickly crawl away as Salintsad approached. What were they seeing? The bravest generals of the Noxian army kicked them back into position. Back into their deaths. Salintsad did not swing his mace, but pointed it towards them. A bright line shined and, before anyone could see what happened, the bodies over half the roaming army had fallen to the ground, lifeless. Terror gripped the remaining army as the mighty leader turned his head towards them. They all ran, fleeing from this monster before them. Walls of seemingly solid light rose up from the ground and surrounded the remaining army. The walls shined so bright that many were forced to look away. There was only one hole in the walls and there stood Salintsad. He walked slowly towards the blinded army that covered their eyes as what appeared to be smoke fried them. Salintsad gripped one of the generals of the roaming army, lifting him up before speaking.
"Fools. If you are so blind as to think this army could destroy all the good that has been brought here, then you do not deserve those eyes."
Holding the man up with one hand and his mace in the other, Salintsad simply touched the man's hands with his mace, causing them to burn away into ash. The man screamed in pain as Salintsad's appearance flashed before the man's eyes before they too turned to ash. The rest of the Noxian army fell to their knees before collapsing on the ground, lifeless as well. The walls of light began to slowly collapse, but before they revealed what was within, Salintsad placed his mace to the ground. The spirits of the men within flooded into the head of the mace and then the mace tolled once more before the walls had completely disappeared. The night was silent once more. Salintsad looked at his mace as the spirits of the men within yelled once more before disappearing into the mass of the other spirits within. Salintsad walked slowly back to the gate, none of the roaming army remaining. His followers bowed before him at his return. Despite his parent's telling him otherwise, a young boy rushed out from one of the houses and dropped to his knees to bow in front of Salintsad.
"I have come. I have watched. Now, please, teach me."
Salintsad, his face darkened beneath his helmet so that no emotion could be seen, knelt down and rubbed the boy's head.
"Know this child. In this world of heretics and worms, there is but one true way. One day, you will learn this way and, when you think you have, come to me. You are young and I can see destiny inside of you. Let your fire within grow until, one day, it shines at it's brightest."
The boy looked up slowly and looked at Salintsad's mace. For a brief second, it almost seemed as if a face could be seen burned into the head of the mace.
"Know that boy. Let your fire grow and use all who are cursed in their ways to fuel it. Do not let them water out your fire. Instead, let them burn within it, for that is all that they are useful for."

SYNERGIES AND COUNTERS
Works Well With:
Poppy Poppy's Heroic Charge has amazing synergy with Walls of Solid Light, providing numerous, large sets of impassable terrain for Poppy to charge her target into. Not only this, but Poppy's Steadfast Presence prevents enemies from escaping from the walls of light, allowing Salintsad to easily use Divine Punishment on enemies put into one of the corners of Walls of Solid Light without fearing their potential escape from the walls.
Sion Sion provides Salintsad with the hard to come by AoE lock down that he needs to land extraordinary Walls of Solid Light and hit as many enemies as possible with Mace of Tollin. This isn't even going into the amount of single target lock down the combined two have when they both use their ultimate abilities.
Blitzcrank Why have to chase someone when an ally can bring them to you? The enemy won't know what hit them when the hand of Blitzcrank pulls them into the death trap combo of the Arch Pontiff and the Steam Golem.
Performs Poorly Against:
Tristana Tristana's ability to escape Walls of Solid Light and push Salintsad away makes the Arch Pontiff's job about ten times harder. Her long range also makes kiting Salintsad no problem. It's just overall not a fun match-up for our friendly neighborhood holy man.
Lee Sin Salintsad naturally wants to build health and get up close. Lee Sin punishes Salintsad for doing both of those things. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see how this is painful for Salintsad to face.
Ryze You think you just trapped the entire enemy team in Walls of Solid Light? Nope. Plus, Rune Prison hurts Salintsad's soul to go up against.
