One month ago, I couldn't draw at all.
http://i.imgur.com/gk6dEI3.png Every once in a while, I'd get some inspirational idea I'd want to bring to life on the pixel-page. I'd lament about the lack of skillz, and the fact that I could only make shitty scribbles rather than the elaborate concepts I could envision. This month, I decided to do something about it, and teach myself digital drawing.
I took measurements of body parts, I used a crappy paint program, I discerned every little thing I'd want to make. Taking time practicing the drawing of shapes, the usage of each type of tool, how to manage layer groups. Fighting the interface, being meticulous until I knew I could repeat what I did reliably, knowing the variations I'd have to do in order to create something with a different type of expression, or angle the background at a different angle. It took a while, an hour or two of dedication a day, most importantly making sure I didn't burn out at any point. But in the end, I was victorious.
Now, I can make shitty scribbles in the shape of people. If you're ever feeling like you really want to do something, that there's a skill you truly wish you possessed, don't give up. Let today be the day you begin. You may not see results immediately, but you'll get there. http://imgur.com/2DpDm00.png
