@Meddler What R The Plans for Karma 2017

I posted a thread last year about the state of Karma and what her problems are. You responded to this thread with the fact that during her failed relaunch, you didn't have the adequate team or technology to be working on her. You couldn't give her a kit or visual update that she deserved. Here we are coming up to four years and no significant work is being done on a champion you continue to ignore. You have worked on Ryze 7 times, found a way to somehow spend the entire year working on Ekko to make sure no one plays him on tank, spent months and month on Soraka and other support champions, and you continue to ignore the one champion that has received the most unfair treatment.

  • You removed beloved themes such as her shield bomb, dress, fans, unique animations, and more.
  • You continue to think a number buff, Karma being the most number buffed champion in the game, is all she needs for parts of a kit that make no sense on her. She can have the same kit as long as it makes sense in a way that plays up her art, theme, and character.
  • You lie and tell us you are going to work on her during specific times, but you work on everything around her and not the actual champion. Almost all of the Ionian champions and support characters have received an update.
  • You continue to ignore the fact that she was played almost the entire season in ranked and don't give her the victorious skin. Maokai really?
  • You continue to exclude her from any type of skin line that will give Karma players a new way to play her character . . . same skin Warden. Great job. Another bland skin that has the poorly designed visual update you cannot be bothered to work on.

We are going on four years now. You don't communicate at all about Karma. You don't make the right changes on Karma. You don't do the right type of work on Karma. You refuse to admit you were wrong. You refuse to admit that her poorly designed visual update, theme, and kit is not working for her. You and the rest of the Riot team continue to tell the entire Karma main community that you care about a champion you had no problem gutting identity, kit, and theme wise . . . . at the expense of one Developer's lame work on a champion that didn't need a relaunch. She needed her old kit revitalized and updated. She needed her visual update polished and keep her old theme with the dress and fans. You didn't do that. You gave us a poorly designed kit with bad art that you don't plan on finishing cose to four years now.

When is your team going to start caring? You do 3 VGU a year. You have over 200 champions in the game now. You make poor decisions that you don't communicate with the community, that you later remove at the expense of other work you can be doing on this championj . . . or heck Morde. Stop saying your team cares. You don't. You don't care to give Karma a decent skin or make her part of a decent skin line that isn't a bland concept. You don't care to give a champion, and many others like Viktor or Gangplank who deserve it more than Maokai, the victorious skin. You don't care enough to address the disgusting and unfair treatment for Karma in terms of art and theme wise. When is your team going to stop saying you care when you haven't done anything almost four years now? You don't care.

It's too late to do anything drastic again like a relaunch, because new Karma fans are going to be upset and treated unfairly, like you did to us old Karma mains. At least have the integrity to work on her art, theme, character and lore. It's the one thing you can do to make this entire mess better.

Hey man, you know I agree with you on most of Karma's issues, but I do disagree on whether Riot cares.

We both just recently talked to gipyslord groovylord who admitted that maybe probably she didn't need the rework as much as they thought she did probably maybe. He also took the time to explain how they just can't do all the things they want to do. How they just get stuck up in all their work. It's easy to paint someone as a villain, but reality is usually a lot more complex and sometimes neglect happens in spite of someone caring a lot.

Meddler agreed that her rework was bland and kind of a fail.

So they do admit their mistakes. However, I do suspect the following:

  • Karma is not a troublemaker, so they don't experience her high priority.
  • Karmas lore/design is so bland that the people making skins don't get inspired doing something for her
  • Understanding Karma takes some time. And experience. That a good amount of Rioters don't even have, because they joined Riot AFTER Karma's rework. They don't know what she felt like.
  • The Karma community doesn't send a strong or coherent message to Riot what they actually want. So it's not easy to listen to us.

All of those factors probably combine to form this whole mess. I can't blame them for not caring, really. But I can blame them for their careless updates, the changes that keep missing the point. And up to this day I would've said "well, if they try it on PBE you cant critisize, because it's just a test, but when it's life you can't critisize, because Riot won't take things back ever". However, Riot recently took back the Kog changes. They'll finally do replays. The sandbox. They are giving us back Solo-Q, for phreak's sake. Riot might have problems and might act stupid in our eyes sometimes, but I have yet to find a gaming company trying harder than they do. Between all the complaining we tend to forget all the good they do, which we probably should honor. This is why I think they deserve to be treated better by us too. Even if we harshly disagree on something. Like their treatment of Karma.

My hopes are up. And I wouldn't want you to stop fighting the fight. I wish you had a slightly different perspective, but thank you for trying!
