Vel-Koz Rework Concept
Vel-Koz was my first main mage, and my second Mastery Rank 5. So, of course, It's important to me that his rework keeps the basic feel of being the almighty burst mage of the round. So I've decided to create a concept for his rework.
What Riot Wants: -Keep his burst potential -Add a research-related mechanic into his kit -Make his W NOT be a simple wave-clear mechanic -Don't make him a farm-heavy snowball champ
With this information in mind, I have designed an outline for his potential new kit:
Passive: Research Through Disintegration Part 1: Organic Deconstruction: Abilities build Organic Deconstruction on targets, the third stack consumes all stacks to deal bonus true damage, scaling with level. Part 2: Research: After getting 3 takedowns (kills, assits) on enemy champions, Vel-Koz can put research into one of his abilities. But he can only evolve 3 of his abilties, like Kha'Zix (I have decided that Vel's favorite number is 3). Q: Plasma Fusion: Damage changed to 60/100/140/180/220 (60% Ability Power) Magic Damage at all levels. (Nerf) Researched: Upon splitting, the ability shoots out two beams instead of simple projectiles, dealing 10/13/16/19/21% bonus damage
W: Void Rift: Deals 75% damage towards minions and neutral monsters (except for Dragon, Rift Herald, and Baron) Charge time set to 20 seconds at all levels. Researched: The initial cast will push targets into its cast direction, this does not count as Crowd Control, and will immobilize or stun any targets hit. The second burst also deals 8/12/14/16/18% bonus damage He can store 3 charges.
E: Tectonic Disruption:
This ability stays the same, except for one crucial element: The projectile that Vel-Koz shoots to cast this ability is not blocked by Yasuo's Wind Wall.
Researched: The ability infects the ground with void energy where it was cast. This void-charged ground lasts for 1.5 seconds and and deals 15/25/35/45/55 (+20% Ability Power) Magic Damage to an enemy when they walk on it. In case you need an example, if an enemy walks on to the ground they take damage, and if they walk off it and on it again, they take damage. Also, the ground does not apply stacks of Organic Deconstruction.
R: Life Form Disintegration Ray:
This ability stays the same, but it can be turned 0/15/30% faster.
Research: This ability reduces the Magic Resist of targets by up to 30%, (5% per 0.5 seconds) and the reduced Magic Resist decays over 2.5/3/3.5 seconds. The time is reset if the enemy is hit with the beam again.
Special Quotes:
Joke
: "Nagakaborous? Do you think you could introduce them to me, perhaps?"
Taunt
: "You're going to blind ME? I should research how to avoid that..."
Taunt
: "I'd ask to borrow your research, but I see you haven't evolved enough to know what that is."
Ally
: "Let us evolve, together!"
Taunt
: "I have researched Valoran's concept of "time". I see you may have looked too far into it."
"As surprising as it is to say this; take a break from your research!"
Ally
: "Your artifacts amused me, care to share some knowledge on them?"
Interactions: Rift Herald: "A Rift Scuttler infected with Void Energy? Appears to have it's drawbacks." Blue Sentinel: "A stone creature animated through the usage of Valoran's magic? It's power is... useful." Red Brambleback: "A creature of bark and fire? Why burn when you can disintegrate?" Baron Nashor(Upon Killing): "While it's appearance causes fear in it's victims, it's horribly primitive."
Item Interactions:
: "It appears that Luden's research has led to my benefit."
: "My research on headgear has proven this hat to be incredibly useful."
: "Void Staff? It appears these creatures have been doing their own research."
: "What."
Tier 2 Boots: "Why do these only come in pairs?"
End Notes: It was hard thinking of a way to incorporate Vel-Koz's research mechanic without turning him into a snowball/farm-heavy champion, as his whole deal is to kill stuff and get smart. I kept his abilities mostly the same, just making few minor tweaks to them for Riot's sake. Overall, I feel that this kit could be a good base for Riot's rework, or even be the rework. It still keeps Vel-Koz's burst potential while providing just what he needs to be different from other mages of the Institute of War. Please post any ideas and your review in the comments!

(Thanks to Sernix for his reccomendations!)
on release. Not pretty. If you scaled the damage on the q down by 20 at all lvls. make his w have a longer cast time in between casts. and made his e blockable by yas windwall and braum e (Because its a projectile). then not let the speed of his turn increase. THAT would be a done deal champion rework. You have to think about what straight buffs like that would do to the already pretty balanced vel. ( He just needs a gameplay update; not a buff.)
