Zilean / Time Mage Champion Concept

This post has two reasons for it:

  1. Main reason is that I wanted to make a time mage concept.
  2. I also do not like how Zilean resets take up an active ability slot when I feel it can be done in a more clever and skillful way and open up room for a real active spell slot. Just opening up an extra active spell for Zilean will make him more interesting to play as and also fix his lack of meaningful passive.

Final note, besides creating a more fun champion to play as, I do want to open up better skill and skill expression opportunities for Zilean. Really, just create more opportunities where the player can say THEY are the ones playing Zilean, and not feel like a developer is there telling them how they should be playing the champion (building ability power, mana, and being squishy as a mage is different, draw back to being a powerful time mage is being squishy, utilizing his abilities to kill or be killed when used poorly).

Both his middle lane damage utility-mage and hard support utility-mage forms were kept in mind here. Actually, he should be an actual viable support with this kit, while ensuring his damage output is high enough when going for a damage orientated build.


Attack Range: 575 units Movement: 335 units per second Attack Speed: 0.644 +3% per level Attack Damage: Average

NOTE: Stated Static Cooldowns are not quickened by Fast Forward. NOTE: All recharge and storing times are reduced with cooldown reduction.

NOTE: Time Bombs no longer stick to targets as the drawback for having the extra ability, but now he has better opportunities to get enemies to stick around for the explosion through rewinding an enemy or a powerful area slow (the duration cannot be reduced this way since the slow is not applied, but Swiftness Boots would still reduce slow effectiveness).


Fast Forward (Passive):

After casting an ability, Zilean quickens all of his cooldowns and recharge times by 100%(+20% per 100AP) for the next 3 seconds. This also quickens Zilean's Recall time by the same amount.

Zilean increases the cooldowns of his item actives and summoner spells by 50%.

Time Bomb (Q):

Static Cooldown: 0.5 second; Cost: 50/60/70/80/90 mana; Range: 1000 / 400 units

Zilean throws a Time Bomb to the target location for 3 seconds and reveals the area around it.

After 3 seconds, the Time Bomb explodes in an area for 80/120/160/200/240(+100%AP) magic damage.

Passive: Zilean stores a Time Bomb every 16/15/14/13/12 seconds, up to a maximum of 2 Time Bombs.

Rewind (W):

Cooldown: 30/25/20/15/10 seconds; Cost: 40/55/70/85/100 mana; Range: 900 units

Zilean rewinds the target champion 3 seconds in time, placing them in stasis for 1 second and sending them back to where they were during that time.

Zilean and allies receive their highest current health in that time period. Enemies receive their lowest current health in that time period.

Time Warp (E):

Static Cooldown: 3 seconds; Cost: 80 mana; Range: 750 / 400 units

Zilean distorts time at the target location for the next 3 seconds. The potency of the effect is reset afterwards.

Allies, and Zilean, are sped up inside of the zone by up to 99%(+10% per 100AP) bonus movement speed, persists for 1 second. Enemies are slowed down inside of the zone by up to 99%.

Passive: Zilean charges his Time Warp over time, reaching maximum potency after 40/35/30/25/20 seconds.

Chronoshift (R):

Cooldown: 200/175/150 seconds; Cost: 100 mana; Range: 900 units

Zilean places a time rune on the target allied champion or himself for 5 seconds.

If the target takes lethal damage during this time, then they are put into stasis in place for 3 seconds and are healed for 500/675/850(+150%AP) health.

Hey I like this a lot. Zilean needs an update or at least minor tweaks to his kit. He hasn't been touched in ages, I mean look at his beard... it is literally one giant glob.

I've actually been working on a cool ultimate concept for him for a while now. Imagine this:

**Chronoshift: **

"Zilean marks an area with a time rune. If an allied champion, monster, or epic monster takes lethal damage during this time, then they are put into stasis in place for 3 seconds and are healed for 300/475/550(+150%AP) health (healing is doubled for monsters). The zone expires after 1/2/3 targets have used the zone, or 10 seconds have passed.

Targets who have recent used the effect of time rune cannot use it again for a brief period."


Imagine the gameplay potential. You can actually contest major objectives. Imagine enemy team is about to grab baron, and zilean uses his ult. Enemy jungle wasted his smite, but your jungler still has it. That could be a major game changer.
