Yorick Mori, the forgotten gravedigger of the Shadow Isles. Forgotten by time, by Runeterra, and by the game itself. Reworks come and go, skins are released to much fanfare... And then there is Yorick. Disabled from the rotation, not a new skin in four years, all due to his somewhat problematic kit design and what were once numerous glitches.

In this thread, I have attempted to take key points of Yorick's current identity and mold them into a new, more manageable form for him. Some aspects have been discarded, as not everything can be maintained.

Most importantly is Yorick's summons of the dead, of course. He's known for his ghouls, which can quickly swarm his enemies and... that's about it. Truth be told, besides be obnoxious, the ghouls don't do anything particularly 'fun' in gameplay. So I tried to fix that by making them more varied from each other and combo-able, so to speak.

Passive: Tireless Toil

Any unit that dies near Yorick leaves behind a small burial plot that lasts for 3 seconds. If Yorick stands on a plot for 0.5 seconds, he buries it and recovers 7 + (1 x Yorick's Level) Mana.

Revenants of the Lost - Each of Yorick's abilities can summon a Revenant to the battlefield. Each type of Revenant has unique abilities and behavior. Revenants have no finite duration, but will lose 10% of their Maximum Health each second (20% if they're within range of an enemy turret).

Yorick can have more than one of any type of Revenant on the field, cooldowns permitting. If a new Revenant is summoned, however, any pre-existing Revenants of that type have their Health loss per second doubled.

- Revenant Stats -

_ Health: 40% of Yorick's Maximum Health Armor / Magic Resist: 15 + (2 x Yorick's Level) Heal Reduction: 100%_

These stats are consistent among all types of Revenants. Each ability lists stats unique to its own Revenant.

Q: Shallow Grave

Range: 175 (AA Modifier) Cost: 45 Mana Cooldown: 8 / 7.5 / 7 / 6.5 / 6

Active: Yorick hones his shovel, resetting his attack timer and causing his next basic attack within 6 seconds to gain 50 range and deal bonus Physical Damage to his target. If Shallow Grave either damages a major target or kills a minor one, Yorick summons a Revenant of War.

Bonus Physical Damage: 30 / 60 / 90 / 120 / 150 (+25% AD) (Major targets include champions and large minions or monsters. Minor targets include small minions or monsters.)

Revenant of War - The Revenant of War seeks out targets and attacks them. Yorick gains 10% bonus Movement Speed when moving towards a Revenant of War.

War Attack Damage: 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 / 70% of Yorick's AD War Attack Range: 125 War Attack Speed: 0.670 + (1.2% x Yorick's Level) War Movement Speed: 325 + (35 x Yorick's Boot Tier)

The Revenant of War prioritizes enemy champions, followed by minions or monsters, and finally turrets. Once it has targeted a champion, it will pursue them until it dies or loses vision of its target.

W: Fetid Dredge

Range: 600 (Ground-Targeted) Cost: 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 / 80 Mana Cooldown: 14 / 13.5 / 13 / 12.5 / 12

Active: Yorick stirs the spirits, summoning a Revenant of Pestilence that awakens at target location after a brief delay. The Revenant's awakening deals Magic Damage to nearby enemies within 200 range.

Magic Damage: 50 / 80 / 110 / 140 / 170 (+70% AP)

Revenant of Pestilence - The Revenant of Pestilence moves towards enemies somewhat slowly. Rather than attacking enemies, this Revenant releases a caustic mist around itself that Slows nearby enemies and deals Magic Damage to them per second based on their Current Health.

Movement Speed: 300 + (15 x Yorick's Boot Tier) AoE Range: 162.5 Slow: 10 / 12.5 / 15 / 17.5 / 20% Magic Damage p/Second: 3 / 3.75 / 4.5 / 5.25 / 6% (+2% per 100 AP) of Target's Current Health

The Revenant of Pestilence moves towards enemies targeted by an allied Revenant of War. If no Revenants of War are summoned, they move towards Yorick's current target instead.

E: Earthen Hunger

Range: 300 (Point-Blank AoE) Cost: 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 Mana Cooldown: 12/ 11.5 / 11 / 10.5 / 10

Active: Yorick plants his shovel into the ground and channels for up to 4 seconds, disturbing the earth and dealing Physical Damage per half-second to enemies within range. The damage increases based on the victim's Missing Health. If Yorick's channel completes or is interrupted by an enemy, a Revenant of Famine is summoned.

Physical Damage per Half-Second: 18 / 36 / 54 / 62 / 70 (+20% Bonus AD) Maximum Damage per Half-Second: 27 / 54 / 81 / 93 / 105 (+30% Bonus AD)

Revenant of Famine - The Revenant of Famine keeps itself positioned behind Yorick. While it persists, Yorick gains bonus Life Steal and Spell Vamp, with the bonuses increasing based on Yorick's Missing Health. If Yorick controls more than one Revenant of Famine, each subsequent one only grants 50% of the bonuses of the last.

Movement Speed: 100% of Yorick's Movement Speed Life Steal/Spell Vamp: 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30% (+0.25% per 1% of Yorick's Missing Health) Ignores unit collision

R: Unholy Covenant

Range: Self-Target Cost: 50 Mana (Initial Cost) + 3 / 2.5 / 2% of Yorick's Current Health per Second Cooldown: 7

Active: Yorick taps into the powers of an unholy pact, summoning the Revenant of Death to his side. The Revenant of Death floats above Yorick as an untargetable object, unlike the other Revenants.

While the Revenant of Death is summoned, it gradually drains Yorick's Health to extend the duration of his other Revenants (they lose 5% of their Max Health per second instead of 10%).

Additionally, Yorick and any Revenants of War he's summoned will reduce the cooldowns of his other abilities whenever they execute a basic attack on an enemy unit. This bonus is halved when attacking minions.

Cooldown Reduction on Attack: 0.5 / 0.75 / 1 Second(s)

- The Covenant of Mori -

_Years. Decades. Centuries._

The history of the world of Runeterra is written in the blood and bone of its countless wars, both against itself and the realms beyond. The souls that had fallen in these conflicts would rush in great numbers to their resting place, within the eternally-haunted Shadow Isles. Their souls could not pass on while their bodies remained strewn across the land, however, and not all those who die were put to proper rest.

Those souls whose bodies were not recovered would seek the aid of a man named Mori, who tended to a locale known as the Mausoleum of the Lost. Mori would personally navigate Runeterra to find whatever remains he could of the lost souls and return them to his mausoleum for the burial they craved. As gratitude for his tireless efforts, the spirits of the dead granted Mori a covenant, such that his own spirit could live on and aid those who might continue his grisly task.

The terms of the covenant were that Mori would find a willing heir to continue his duty and take up the title of "Mori", and in return Mori's soul would be bound to the shovel he used, ready to aid his successors should they call upon him. The covenant would persist so long as the Mori line remained unbroken and the souls of the dead could always find aid.

The spirit of Mori that dwelled within the shovel granted its bearers the protection and subservience of revenants, or returned spirits who wished to aid the one who bore the covenant. As lingering signs of ruin and conflict throughout Runeterra's history, the revenants gathered the dust of the earth and assumed temporary physical forms to assist their master.

As the ages passed, the Covenant of Mori was always upheld, many of its bearers going to great lengths to find an heir to continue the line. It came to be that the Covenant of Mori had become a vital component of the cycle of life and death in Runeterra.

A century before the present day, the Covenant was passed onto a humble man named Yorick. Yorick had always been fascinated by the Covenant and its importance, and took to his duty with much vigor. Despite his hunched back and relative difficulty walking, Yorick made his rounds all the same, and was particularly commended by the spirits he aided.

Yorick's zeal at his task had blinded him to a very important detail, however. He had become so engrossed in his work that he never tried to find an heir to uphold the Covenant should he die. Though the revenants who would protect him were powerful, even they had their limits.

In the wastes of the Shurima Desert, in the course of retrieving the lost body of an explorer, Yorick ran afoul of an unknown, and most certainly otherworldly, creature. The scaled monstrosity very quickly bore down on Yorick, whose revenants appeared by his side without delay. Even together were no match for the beast, though, and it tore the revenants' physical forms asunder before devouring Yorick, shovel and all...

Some time later, Yorick awoke. Not to the site of the afterlife, but to the Mausoleum of the Lost, with shovel in hand. Surely he had to have died, for the creature had swallowed him whole. As if to answer his doubts, the spirits of the dead erupted into a wail around him.

_"Yorick, last of the line of Mori. The contract has been broken by your hand, by your choice to not select an heir. Centuries of revered service in the name of Mori, brought to an end by your carelessness. For this, know that you will be punished. Your life has not reached its end, nor will it ever, not until the world once more knows the name of Mori. Until you have brought many more souls to rest, your rest shall never come."_

From that moment on, the forlorn soul of Yorick Mori continued his work, bound to life by a broken covenant and a rusted shovel. In his state of being between life and death, Yorick was able to draw upon the cursed strength of the Shadow Isles, and this together with the ever-faithful revenants ensured that no obstacle would ever again impede him in his duty.

"One day, I too will find rest. Once the world remembers Yorick Mori."

Some of the numbers probably need tweaking, but of course you can only do so much with numbers when you're just guesstimating.

Made a small adjustment to the passive and increased the damage on Shallow Grave's active slightly. Also gave Fetid Gloom a damage cap against monsters because I forgot to.

Very interesting direction to take the old grave digger. I like that you keep the focus on his summon mechanic, and find it interesting that the Revenant has a priority list instead of being controlled or focusing the same target as Yorick. One of the problems I have now with Yorick is that in summoning ghouls they get in the way of farming or chase enemies until they die. I think If the Revenant could be controlled it would give the player more control over their play style with him.

I like the way there is a sort of mini game in managing the Revenants, with the passive effects that swap out based on the last ability used. Micromanagement within a champ increases both the skill floor and skill ceiling for a champion and with as many champs in the game as there are now, we don't really need anymore easy champions. In my opinion complexity in a champ is a good thing.

I'd recommend rethinking the free rank 1 ult at level 1. Giving him the Ult at level one takes away from how powerful you can expect it to be late game without being over powerful. With the rest of his kit laid out the way it is, it really isn't needed to have the revenant pre-6. Though waiting until 6 for the Ult would allow for it to be a pretty hefty power-spike.

Lastly, and probably the least important for rework concepts, is keep in mind what items/stats they will need to support their kit. With the kit you created Yorick needs Health, CDR, AD and/or AP, and mana. This isn't too difficult to build top lane or even jungle for those brave enough.

Overall Great concept would love to see parts of it hit the rift. Hope something I've written helps you in some way. =D keep up the good work.

Made the opening post prettier (for a given definition of pretty) with the Yorick splash and a short preface, as well as increased the cooldown on Unholy Covenant. It may need to be increased more, though, but that's what the edit button is for.

I overhauled my own rework, focusing a lot more power into Yorick working in tandem with his Revenant summon rather than just sending it off on its own for harassing chumps. The method I've used to do this I kinda borrowed from Kalista, but she's overloaded anyway so I'm sure she won't mind if someone borrows a mechanic from her.

His skills have rather negligible damage on their own, so a lot of his power comes from double-teaming you with his Revenant. I think maybe the Revenant needs to die out quicker the longer it sticks around, but not quite as fast as Sion 'dies' during his passive. I'm not sure what an adequate formula for that would be, though.

Today must be Yorick Day, since there are other threads discussing him. (Actually, Yorick Day is a week from now, since 6/22 was his release date 4 years ago.)

Anyway, I see many other Yorick concepts focusing on summoning more ghouls in bursts. The reason I didn't do that is simply because I wanted to focus more on his being a gaunt gravedigger. He's not a necromancer, and I'd rather leave swarming undead to a real necromancer.

I've also written a small story to accompany this rework. It explains who the Revenant that Yorick summons is and why Yorick works together with it so well. Some of the specific details are different from Yorick's current lore, but his characterization and motivation are by and large the same.

I haven't written anything like this in quite some time, though, so it could probably stand for some improvement.

Reworked my rework again. I actually dug back down to Yorick's roots and brought back summoning on all his abilities, albeit the summons are now far more unique than before. To make the most of them, they need to be utilized together. His revised ultimate, which is returned to being a standard 6/11/16 ult, greatly increases the overall potential of his kit, but at a cost...

You will remember Yorick Mori.

Seemed too obvious a line to not use it as a bump.

Added some other functionality to his ultimate. In exchange for the Health cost, Yorick now gains the ability to summon more revenants by attacking enemies.

I was considering giving it a passive effect similar to Yorick's current passive on live, where he takes less damage the more summons he has. This would help to ease the burden of losing HP to keep the ultimate toggled on in a fight, as well as reward Yorick for making use of the improved summoning capability. Again, this is all speculation, though.
