PSA: Before Making An "I Was Banned for Toxic Behavior" Thread

Reaper Review·3/28/2016, 1:12:24 AM·38 votes·3,005 views

Consider this: You were banned for being toxic, yes? Then is going to the boards and making an angry thread blaming everyone else really going to solve anything? You're just continuing the same behavior that landed you that ban in the first place.

Read your own chat logs, then pretend you're a stranger having those things said to you. You might just see why this behavior isn't at all productive and just ends up feeding itself.

If you think you can appeal your ban or get it overturned by being aggressive, then you're missing the entire point of the ban. Cool it, and think about it for a moment. If you REALLY wanted to get something done about your ban, the first thing you should be doing is perhaps showing that you can behave in a civilized manner. If more people did this, then maybe Riot would actually consider offering ways to repeal the bans. (If you've heard of the Level 20 Challenge, then yes, Riot HAS considered such things in the past.)

The fact is, as long as people continue to not learn anything from their bans, nothing more will be done with them. If you really want to fight for your account, do so in a way that shows that you actually DESERVE that second chance. I'm not saying you're guaranteed to get it, though. Frankly, the chances of it ARE slim, but that slim chance is still better than the no chance that most leave themselves with.

I've seen too many ban threads all end the exact same way, and for the exact same reasons. It doesn't NEED to be that way if you don't let it.

Edit: Some other helpful/informative threads to have a look at from other banned players:

Where else will I get my daily source of amusement from then?

Maybe if we grew a set and stopped caring what petty insults were thrown at us, we could look at the real problem: toxic behavior. I would much rather someone be banned because of trolling or the like, than because someone said a mean word. You have a mommy for a reason.

I'll just have to do what I can to keep this thread alive as long as possible then.

As a fun fact, one possible definition of permanent is "intended to exist or function for a long, indefinite period without regard to unforeseeable conditions". In this case, the unforeseeable condition would be players truly demonstrating reform over a willingness to continue their behavior.

It's very optimistic of me to think this way, I know. Perhaps too much so. Thinking negative never did me any favors, though, so I figured I'd try a new approach.

I decided to put my new outlook to the test earlier and played a PVP match on my alt.

I did terribly that game, ending the game 3/9/2, owing both to my being out of practice and because the pressure was on for me to keep it together. I surprised myself, though, and managed to not say a single negative thing to anyone in-game.

It's a stark contrast to how I used to be, where even being 0/2 would set me off. Changing my outlook really made a difference in my attitude.

I don't have much to add to the thread's content at this point, but I thought little stories like this might help reinforce my point.

You tell people to realize their behavior like you are some kind of "Messiah", but I must be the honest one in your life and tell you that you are not better than anyone else on these boards.

You think that it is solving a problem with the permanent bans, but all it is doing is ruining the new player experience. Sure, you may not have to que with that guy again, at least until he gets back to your level on a new account... but there are 100's of new players that have to suffer because YOU chose to hit that report button. Yes Riot Lyte made a flawed system, yes people blindly support it.. and that is because they, like you, only think about themselves. Get over yourself, and help do the right thing.. create a permanent chat ban system, and lets get rid of this flawed permanent ban system that ONLY punishes new players to the game.

Why don't people just mute toxic people why ban them?

As I said in response to your other post, very informative and explained in a way I couldn't.

I accepted my permaban, Didn't fuss, actually trying to help people who are in danger of being permaban, Check out Anger and Regret thread, I was just making a statement to the public, that Riot's system is fair and just, it works, they gave me 6-7 times before I messed up for good. it's just how the world works. It took being Permabanned though to actually take a break , and a few family issues to seek help, after several months, i came back, and started a thread on the forums for others that are walking the path that I took. need any advice or help, just ask on the thread.

I'm now asking myself a serious question: Is it worth it for me to continue trying to help out around here?

I'm literally tearing myself apart on the inside with guilt over having lost my account, and constantly reminding myself of it with all my help threads and posts is actually rather painful. I can't just abandon this game, though. Now that I've opened my eyes, it's given me so much. I've made more friends here than I have anywhere else, and I'm finally able to actually curb my anger. I owe this game and the better part of its community too much for me to just give up, as much as it hurts me.

I'm still slowly trying to level a new account, but it's just not the same game I enjoyed leveling up. There's no charm of being able to try new champions since I'd already played almost all of them on this account. I can't teach new players anything because I'm not that good at the game either. I can't beat actual smurfs. I can't even learn to jungle properly yet due to the lack of runes. The worst part is being unable to play with the friends I'd made. Even when I reach level 30, I'll still be outmatched if I try to queue with them.

I'll try to do my best for all of you, for everyone who helped me, directly or otherwise.

How do you read your chat logs? Curious to do so.

Straw Hat Loki3/28/2016, 4:03:07 AM1 votes

If only a thread such as this was stickied. Would help a LOT of people coming to the boards after getting punished.

Great job putting it together.

Maybe riot should care more about what's in the chat logsand behind the game. cuz now u get banned for saying shit 3 times. but if a lee sin jungler tells ' i am not a ganker' and enemy yi is ganking every lane. yes a YI GANKING PRE LEVEL 6 and lee sin just doesnt, and he knows he can gank, but just doesnt want to, andwhile teamfighting he is just standing near your team but doesnt give a fuck and wards jumps away everytime without doin any single thing. if u can see his damage to champions at the end of the game is 1000 . then u ask yourself some fking questions. the previous game, u have another person with the same fking behaviour. thanks riot. for making your game, impossible.

You only see the cases where players don't take your advice. If a player calms down and appeals their ban in a composed manner, you never see it. Do you really think the total number of bans or appeals is anywhere near the amount of complaint threads you see on the forums?
