Reworked Mid-Tier Tank Items + Upgrades
My goals:
- To provide more options when it comes to picking up a defensive item.
- To eventually remove Negatron Cloak, Chain Vest and Giant's Belt - when picking up a defensive item: a flat stat boost shouldn't be an option. Relating to the above, there should be more specific options for you. (I'm not finished removing these yet - although a lot of progress has been made).
The following items have been removed:

Reagents
The Dark Seal
- I'm tweaking this item to accommodate changes to Rod of Ages, but it consequentially opens the potential for this item to replace Fiendish Codex in some less popular items to make them more likely to be picked up - as The Dark Seal has an allure to it, particularly among support.
- Renamed Mejai's Dark Seal
- New Recipe:
+ 800g = 1235g - Grants 20 ability power.
- Do or Die removed.
- Revised Passive - Glory: Grants 6 ability power for a champion kill or 2 ability power for a champion assist, up to 40.
- Builds into:
//
Aegis of the Legion
- The intent of this item is to turn its aura into something more appreciable - since the damage reduction from magic resistance hard to appreciate. The aura returns in Locket of the Iron Solari.
- Renamed Emblem of Valor
- Recipe:
+
+ 350g = 1000g - Grants 25 magic resistance and 25% base health regeneration.
- Grants UNIQUE Passive - Valor: You have a shield that mitigates the next 30 (+10 per level) magic damage. This shield regenerates at a rate of 5 per second if you have not taken damage from an enemy champion in the last 9 seconds.
- Availability: All modes.
- Builds into:
//
//
//
Guardian's Horn
- The goal of this item is identical to Bami's Cinder - to introduce a late-game effect that could be available as a weaker effect on a weaker item. This also functions to connect similar effects on late-game items.
- Recipe:
+
+ 300g = 850g - Grants 200 health and 50% base health regeneration.
- Grants UNIQUE Passive: Nearby enemy spell casts reduced the cooldown of Battle Cry by 1 second.
- Grants UNIQUE Active - Battle Cry: Gain 30% movement speed for 3 seconds. 25 second cooldown.
- Builds into:
// Martyr's Gambit //
// The Triskelion // Stark's Fervor
Jaurim's Fist
- A health stacking item is the perfect component for a lot of finished items but the attack damage currently prevents this from being possible. So, I'm removing the attack damage.
- New Recipe:
+ 750g = 1150g - Attack damage removed.
- Health increased to 250 from 150.
- Grants UNIQUE Passive - Conquest: Killing a unit permanently grants 5 maximum health, stacking up to 40 times (200 health).
- Builds into:
//
//
//
//
//
//
Quicksilver Sash
- A bold suggestion, I know.
- Magic resistance reduced to 25 from 30.
- Grants UNIQUE Active - Quicksilver: Creates a spell shield that blocks the next enemy ability within 1.5 seconds. 45 second cooldown.
- Builds into:
//
//
//
//
//
Raptor Cloak
- Now available on all modes. (Not all upgrades will be.)
- Point Runner will now grant bonus movement speed while moving toward turrets and "Rally Points".
- Rally Points: Promoted Minions, Rally's Beacon and Zz'Rot Portals.
- Builds into:
//
//
// Stark's Fervor //
Finished Items
Anhk of Regrowth =
+
- Below I have added an alternative tier-3 support item for each class to provide additional options. This item was designed to replace some of Mikael's lost functionality.
- FLAVOUR TEXT: "Through its eye I see the future of Shurima. — Historian Shurelya, 20 March, 25 CLE

- Why does the best MR item on the Rift not build from Spectre's Cowl? Particularly since it also grants health? Why do we have an point-blank-area damaging item that doesn't build from Bami's? Wait... why is the best MR item also one of, if not, the best anti-MR item? Wait, why is AP and MR on the same item?
- Grants 350 health and 80 ability power.
- Grants UNIQUE Passive - Immolate: Every 2 seconds a pulse emanates dealing 40 (+15% AP) magic damage to nearby enemies and reducing their Magic Resistance by 5% for 6 seconds, stacking up to 30%.
=
+ Mejai's Dark Seal
- A pushing item for supports. Similar to Seeker's -> Zhonya's, upgrading to Banner immediately grants the full AP from Mejai's.
- Ability power increased to 80 from 60.
- Magic resistance removed.
- Now grants 50% base health regeneration.
- Now grants UNIQUE Passive: Nearby enemy spell casts reduce the cooldown of Promote by 1 second.
- Promoted minion now grants UNIQUE Aura - Rally Point: Nearby allied champions and minions gain Point Runner, which grants 30% bonus movement speed that builds up over 2 seconds while moving toward a turret or Rally Points. 1100 radius.
=
+
- Health regeneration removed.
- UNIQUE Active - Quicksilver: Creates a spell shield that blocks the next enemy ability within 1.5 seconds, restoring 10% of your maximum health if one is blocked. 45 second cooldown.

Goblet of True Ice =
+
- Grants 40 ability power, 30 magic resistance, 100% magic reneration and +4 gold generation.
- Grants Mana Font.
- Grants Tribute.

=
+
*I feel like the two effects should share some sort of cooldown or resource - perhaps requiring a certain number of charges to activate, although I feel discouraging the use of Quicksilver for fear of preventing Revival would have negative gameplay.
- Grants UNIQUE Passive - Revival: Costs 100 Energy. Upon taking lethal damage, restores 30% of maximum health and mana after 4 seconds of stasis. 240 second cooldown.
- Grants UNIQUE Active - Quicksilver: Costs 25 Energy. Removes all debuffs from your champion and creates a spell shield that blocks the next enemy ability within 1.5 seconds. 120 second cooldown.

- Spoils of War is best suited for tanks, there's no illusion, so I feel like an effect that rewards you for being near your team mates would feel more fun to use compared to the existing effect.
- Deadly Phalanx removed.
- Now grants UNIQUE Active - Legion: Creates a 375-radius barrier around yourself for 5 seconds that shields allies within the barrier from incoming damage. The barrier will break after absorbing 50 + (10 × level) per ally within 1100-units on activation. 60 second cooldown.
- The shield-strength is shared by all allies within the barrier, rather than each ally gaining a smaller shield. For instantaenous area of effect abilities, all allies will receive an equal portion of the shield.
- The barrier is centred on the caster and will move with them.
- The shield does not mitigate non-damaging effects nor does it redirect the effects to the caster.
Force of Nature =
+
- Grants 350 health, 50 magic resistance and 40 ability power.
- Grants UNIQUE Passive - Spectre's Regeneration: Grants 5% movement speed and 75% base health regeneration. These bonuses are doubled if you have taken damage from an enemy champion in the last 10 seconds.
=
+
- This item makes the previous aura more appreciable by converting it into a health shield, at the cost of the active (which is spiritually inherited by Face of the Mountain, above). However, contributing to what tanks want - a little bit of focus fire on them will disable the shield.
- Unique Passive - Valor: You gain a shield that mitigates the next 30 + (15 × level) magic damage. The shield regenerates at a rate of 15 per second if you have not taken damage from an enemy champion in the last 15 seconds. While shielded, you gain Valor's Aid.
- Unique Passive - Valor's Aid: Nearby allied champions generate a magic damage shield at a rate of 15 per second, up to 30 + (15 × level), if they have not taken damage from an enemy champion in the last 1.5 seconds. Valor's Aid will not stack with Valor, if the ally possesses their own source of Valor.
Martyr's Gambit =
+
- This item never really felt satisfying due to the implementation, despite sounding like it would be fun from the wording.
- The "bind" effect now involves sticking yourself to the target, similar to Chum the Waters or Time Bomb (rather than a tether). The target is surrounded by a bubble that resembles their protector, similar to Command: Protect, and there is a UI element similar to Tahm Kench's Devour (except the Martyr's health bar remains visible).
- The target now gains 30% bonus movement speed while you're bound to them. The damage redirection still happens.
=
+
+
- UNIQUE Active - Quicksilver: Creates a spell shield that blocks the next enemy ability within 1.5 seconds, granting 50% bonus movement speed for 2 seconds if one is blocked. 45 second cooldown.
=
+
- The active has gained some properties as well as lost some. It now offers mitigation to the non-Morgana supports, but at the cost of its ability to remove effects.
- Magic resistance increased to 50 from 40.
- Cooldown reduction removed.
- UNIQUE Active - Quicksilver: Places a spell shield on the target ally and yourself that blocks the next enemy ability within 1.5 seconds. 90 second cooldown. If there is no valid target under the cursor, Quicksilver will automatically select the nearest allied champion. The cooldown is reduced to 45 seconds if there were no allied champions nearby.
=
+
- Quicksilver's got so many new paths now that it felt unfair not to include an option for mages.
- Now available on all modes.
- Tenacity removed.
- UNIQUE Active - Quicksilver: Creates a spell shield that blocks the next enemy ability within 1.5 seconds, granting 25 ability power, 25 armor, 25 magic resistance and 35% tenacity for 5 seconds if one is blocked. 45 second cooldown.
=
+
- The effect is distinct enough from Banshee's Veil (now more so) and is interesting enough that I feel it should be explored on the Rift.
- Now available on all modes.
- Mana removed.
- Now grants 100% base health regeneration.
- UNIQUE Passive - Valor: You have a shield that mitigates the next 30 (+10 per level) magic damage. This shield regenerates at a rate of 15 per second if you have not taken damage from an enemy champion in the last 1.5 seconds. All damage mitigated by Valor is stored.
=
+
*This item remains exclusive for Howling Abyss. Point Runner affords some extra juke-iness. This Valor upgrade remains an all-damage-types shield, rather than magic-damage only of the other options.
- Magic resistance reduced to 50 from 70.
- Now grants 50 armor.
- Now grants UNIQUE Passive - Point Runner: Grants 30% bonus movement speed that builds up over 2 seconds while moving toward turrets (including fallen turrets) and Rally Points.
- Passive given the name Valor.
=
+
+
- Active is now named Battle Cry.
- Now grants UNIQUE Passive: Nearby enemy spell casts reduce the cooldown of Battle Cry by 1 second.
= Jaurim's Fist + Mejai's Dark Seal +
- I've never liked choosing between Tear of the Goddess and Catalyst the Protector. To me, they're always felt like they've clashed as a mid-tier item when Rod of Ages could just build from Tear of the Goddess.
- Grants 250 health, 250 mana and 40 ability power.
- Per-minute growth removed.
- Grants UNIQUE Passive - Conquest: Killing a unit permanently grants 5 maximum health, stacking up to 40 times (200 health).
- Grants UNIQUE Passive - Glory: Grants 6 ability power for a champion kill or 2 ability power for a champion assist, up to 40 ability power.
- Grants UNIQUE Passive - Mana Charge: Grants +4 mana for each spell cast and mana expenditure, up to 750 mana, occurring up to 2 times every 8 seconds. Gains 40 mana every 60 seconds.
- Transforms into Eleisa's Miracle upon fully charging Conquest, Glory and Mana Charge.
Eleisa's Miracle
- Grants 450 health, 1000 mana and 80 ability power.
- Grants UNIQUE Passive - Valor's Reward: Scoring a champion takedown restores 150 health and 100 mana over 5 seconds, as well as granting 10% movement speed that decays over the duration.
Stark's Fervor =
+
- Now every can pretend to be Jarvan support on a 60 second cooldown - "Drops flag: ATTACK!"
- Grants 40 armor and 200% base health regeneration.
- Grants UNIQUE Passive - Point Runner: Grants 30% bonus movement speed that builds up over 2 seconds while moving toward turrets (including fallen turrets) and Rally Points.
- Grants UNIQUE Passive: Nearby enemy spell casts reduce the cooldown of Rally by 1 second.
- Grants UNIQUE Active - Rally: Summons a beacon at the target location for 8 seconds that grants nearby allied champions Point Runner as well as 50 bonus damage versus champions and structures. (60 second cooldown; 800 cast range; 1100 aura range)
- The standard can be targeted by allied dash abilities.
- The standard grants sight over a 700-unit area.
- The activated portion of Stark's Fervor counts as a support ability for the purposes of granting assists.
- The beacon is classified as a Rally Point.
=
+
- Health reduced to 400 from 450.
- Armor increased to 50 from 45.
- Now grants +100% base health regeneration.
- Now grants UNIQUE Passive - Point Runner: Grants 30% bonus movement speed that builds up over 2 seconds while moving toward turrets (including fallen turrets) and Rally Points.
The Triskelion =
+
- An item for tank supports that the ability to get-in-there, such as Taric, but it offers an alternative to Face of the Mountain for any tank who'd rather a bit more of a selfish effect.
- FLAVOUR TEXT: "The Sun... The Moon... The..." Etched on the reverse, too scuffed to make out.
- Grants 400 health and 100% base health regeneration.
- Grants Spoils of War.
- Grants UNIQUE Passive: Nearby enemy spell casts reduce the cooldown of Deadly Phalanx by 1 second.
- Grants UNIQUE Active - Deadly Phalanx: You gain 30% movement speed for 3 seconds. After those 3 seconds, a spectral charge presses forward 400 units dealing 100 (+10% bonus health) magic damage to enemies hit. 60 second cooldown. The damage area is a trapezoid - starts wide and gets wider over the duration.
=
+ Jaurim's Fist
- No changes other than recipe.
=
+
- Wit's End is hard to appreciate for much the same reason as Aegis of the Legion - resistances just don't feel good unless stacked with a lot of health.
- Now grants 50% base health regeneration.
- No longer steals magic resistance.
- UNIQUE Passive - Valor: Basic attacks generate a shield that mitigates the next 30 magic damage for 3.5 seconds, stacking up to 300. The shield will decay when out of combat for 25 seconds.
