"Grey Health" for Ekko?

Would it be possible to added Tahm's "grey health" visual effects to Ekko's Chronobreak?

That is – 20 / 25 / 35% of damage taken over the last 4 seconds is displayed in his health bar, but greyed out ("grey health"). Alternatively, more similar to Tahm, it displays 100% of the damage taken over the last 4 seconds (but Ekko still only heals for 20 / 25 / 30 %). (The first option is favourable - since it looks less intimidating for the opponent and Ekko won't feel like he's being gibbed when he gets less than what he thinks 20% looks like).

This shouldn't include the base amount of healing (like Aatrox's fury doesn't track the base amount). It's consistent, so it's not something that needs to be tracked dynamically.

Just so everyone, including Ekko, knows how much he's going to heal for - allows you to see when it's been 4 seconds since you tried to burst him, and he's not going to heal it off.

EDIT: Someone has proposed Volibear's innate and Dr. Mundo's ultimate could also use "grey health" upon triggering/activation to show how much health they'll regen (before healing amplifiers/reductions, as with Tahm). So 40/50/60% of Dr Mundo's maximum health would be shown in grey on activation. This would be more for anti-intimidation/visual-satisfaction purposes.

Make it a different color, and I'm sold; the sort of bluish color that his base skin has seems about right.

Eeyore9 votes

Grey is probably the least intrusive. Blue would probably look too similar to purple shields (magic damage).

But the color is ultimately whatever looks good on Riot's end. :P

but his shield is already grey.

Actually, shields are either white(absorption) or purple(magic).

Or blue- Fix your graphics card. =P

Ayy, Blue Shield of Death.

AsphodelNext3 votes

Really, the important bit is that it's got to be different from Tahm's color, since it represents a different type of ability.

JustMyBassCannon3 votes

Well, it's not that different. The core difference is that Ekko's is only on activation, while Kahm's is either an active shield or a passive register of how much he lost since he got into the fight. Still, it'd be nice to have a different color.

Eeyore9 votes

You must get really confused going from playing versus Mordekaiser to versus Yasuo.

tamashinoerufu1 votes

literally the only difference is one is passive the other is active

OyddAWqJ5r1 votes

It's actually the same type of ability. Both regen based on a percent of lost (or "grey") health. Therefore making them the same color would only make flawless sense.

AbyssionKnight4 votes

I love this idea! It makes it easier for Ekko, and his enemies, to see how much health he'll regain once he ults. Great QOL change imo.

It's a fantastic idea. About the color issue - Perhaps neon yellow?

Great idea, gives better clarity for everyone

Good idea

the ability to read when one was going to take fatal damage and revoke it completely would be a lot less suited to a ridiculously strong burst champ like Ekko, as far as balance goes. that's my opinion, at least.

it's a lot more appropriate on Mr. Kench because he can't kill people at the drop of a hat.

His 36% max HP W says otherwise

Edit: Verified on Surrender@20, im not bullshitting this. His w is 36% max hp rank 5. Prob still wont be able to burst but GOD DAMN thats gonna hurt.

Shrek Luigi1 votes

are you implying that Mr. Kench will have the same kill potential as Ekko?

LittleBlast2 votes

No, but god damn does he look like he will hit like a truck. Also devour Kalista ult= free kill practically.

Oh god if that happened but he ate amumu, blitz grab 2.0

Shrek Luigi1 votes

Idk you very well may be right, it all comes down to how well the three AA stacks limit his kill potential. I only saw the video and not the numbers but as long as he isn't hitting for true damage then I'm OK with where it is.

Penta Penguin2 votes

Why do you want Kalista buffs?

wat

tamashinoerufu1 votes

where could said kalista buff(s) even come from?

Squidblimp2 votes

This is a great idea! It would help everyone know when to go for the final push to burst him!

Upvoted. You talk so highly of clarity, Riot, well, here's your chance to add some more. Don't disappoint us.

i like the grey health thing as a whole. Could be useful in other scenarios. not sure which though. perhaps with mundo ult?

Eeyore1 votes

Good idea, actually. Assuming it's only visible while active.

Mundo click R -> consumes a portion of his current health -> gets X% of his maximum health as grey health and starts rapidly converting it into health.

If anything, using it on things like Volibear's innate and Mundo's ultimate would make their healing less intimidating (or, not so much less intimidating, but you can see how much you have to get through).

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

Except the reason Tahm has the grey health isn't for his healing, but for his shield, it's so you know how much damage you're going to be able to shield when you're under fire and need to survive a little longer.

Eeyore5 votes

He also heals for a percentage of his grey health when he's out of combat.

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

Yes he does, but if that was all there was to the ability then they wouldn't bother with the grey health bar.

Eeyore4 votes

They are both heals based on an resource/pool that is filled based entirely on enemy input (i.e. damage). Tahm has a button that converts that into a shield or, after 2.5 seconds, it'll convert back into health. Ekko has a button that converts that into health. That "backup health" should be visible - Aatrox uses his fury, Tahm uses "grey health" because he's already using his secondary resource.

Would you seriously be happy if Aatrox didn't have a visual representation of his healing? (When he first came out on the PBE, he didn't have the bonus attack speed - that bar literally just stored his potential healing).

I guess we have to agree to disagree.

Tahm's grey health means that when he is out of combat, he gets healed for all of his grey health. Adding this mechanic to Ekko would make him stupidly op and adding just the visuals of it would be confusing and inconsistent. It will never happen.

Eeyore8 votes

How so?

On both champions it represents potential healing.

Maybe because, as I clearly stated in my comment, Tahm's and Ekko's respective healing capabilities are completely different mechanics? I guess you think whenever a team has a Soraka/Nami/Alistar/any healing champ, each champ on their team should have a grey health bar showing how much they can be healed for?

Eeyore1 votes

Not at all.

The only difference between Tahm's and Ekko's grey health is that Tahm's will trigger passively while Ekko's would be activated. Heck, even the amount healed for is similar - Tahm heals for 20-44% over a few seconds, while Ekko heals for 20-30 %.

The distinction between these and standard heals is that they are dynamic based on enemy input - and there should be a number somewhere counting how much you have (like Aatrox's Fury, I guess). Ekko heals for a percentage of the damage he took over the last 4 seconds; Tahm heals for a percentage of the damage he took over the last 2.5 seconds.

The original post is suggesting having Ekko's health bar show how much he would gain from using his ultimate.

The grey health on the meter shows how much shield Kahm would gain from activating his E. If he stays out of combat, he regenerates half of it instead (that's what I heard, anyway).

The idea of this post is to make it so Ekko's health meter has a grey/blue/neon yellow/whatever color portion that shows how much he'll heal from using his ultimate.

HELL NO! Ekko does Aoe damage and heals? and then add grey health? Sorry Friend.

That's not what's being suggested. OP would like a visualization of how much Ekko stands to regain should he use his ultimate, not that he would recover that amount when he leaves combat.

Which isn't a bad idea.

53872273_DEL10 votes

Ahhh.. I'm sorry OP and to you sir.

nomeensno1 votes

Not too bad an idea, but does leave the possibility for Ekko to have 3 "health bars" just from his kit. His health, his shield, and this "grey health." Potentially a lot of health bar clutter there. I do like it for clarity purposes though.

Eeyore1 votes

It would be no more confusing than when someone grants Tahm a shield. I haven't actually tested, but I would assume the shield just hides some of the grey health (i.e. both starts from the end of your current health).

Desiderium1 votes

Tbh I'm surprised Ekko didn't have this mechanic.

Seems kind of common sense to let them share the visual indicator.

Rockman1 votes

Kinda iffy since he's also gaining a heal + missing HP

Eeyore2 votes

He doesn't heal for a percentage of his missing health - he heals for a percentage of the damage he's taken over the last 4 seconds.

Shortened it

the important part is he heals for more then that grey hp

Eeyore2 votes

Only by a base amount of 100 / 150 / 200.

Aatrox's Blood Well has a "hidden" base amount - if he dies with 0 Fury he'll still get up with a small amount of health.

Consistent information can be hidden - since it's something both Ekko and his opponent can rely on always happening. However, the "grey health" would represent the damage-taken (which is a dynamic value that is entirely controlled by your opponent) - the opponent should know this information more than anything, since it would help managing your damage against Ekko. Wait until the grey bit disappears before going in for the kill.

SolusInCadere1 votes

many commentors are misinterpreting what you mean OP, but i love the Idea.

To put it in my own words, taking damage will cause a % Ekko's HP to turn grey instead of immediately dissapearing (this conversion would have the same scaling as his ult heal currently has), any grey health created 4 seconds ago will fall off. Whenever ekko ults, all his grey health will convert back into normal health.

the other way to do it would be for all of ekko's health to turn grey, then have him convert it based on the scaliong he currently has for his heal. Both accomplish the same thing. The first gives him a more accurate depiction of his actual heal, thou.

I hope that clears thing up a bit, the sole intention of this change is to do so as well...
