Irelia, Will of the Blades- redesign with focus on her lore
Inspired by this thread, which focuses on her underemphasized undead nature. I don't like to do things like this often, but I got the inspiration and ran with it.
Here,
is an emotionless martial artist, whose life force resides in bloodthirsty, capricious blades outside of the player's control. Only once their host has acted according to their tastes (read: aggressive to the point of being foolish) will they lend their power to her in battle.
Passive: Powerless: Irelia fights for the favor of her blades, gaining or losing health over time based on their satisfaction. Additionally, her base attack damage increases with Favor, her secondary resource. Favor begins decaying one minute after spawning or returning to base, and must be replenished by fighting and killing enemies. Favor decays more rapidly the longer Irelia goes without entering combat with an enemy Champion. Below 33% Favor, Irelia becomes Desperate, gaining bonus tenacity and movement speed that increases as her Favor decreases. Attacking enemy Champions with more health than Irelia will grant bonus favor. When at or above 66% Favor, Irelia becomes Merciless, gaining lifesteal and true damage on-hit that increases with her Favor. Attacking enemy Champions with less health than Irelia will grant bonus Favor. [Irelia is always at odds with two forces- the enemy, and herself. Her blades crave glory and bloodshed, whether their ‘master’ does or not… Irelia will fluctuate between periods of high sustain and negative sustain throughout the game, and her enemies can manipulate this. When she is Desperate, she really is desperate- if she stalls or is zoned away for too long, she will have no choice but to fight or recall.]
Q: Maul (Costs Favor): Irelia leaps to the target, dealing damage and applying on-hit effects. If Maul kills its target, its Favor cost and cooldown are partially refunded. Desperate: Irelia heals for a percentage of her missing health and gains extra Favor. Doubled if the unit is killed, or if the target is a Champion. Merciless: Maul’s damage and cooldown are lowered while Merciless. After casting Maul, Irelia’s next basic attack deals bonus damage. [When Desperate, Irelia turns to displays of animalistic ferocity to appease her blades. While she has no passive lifesteal during this time, she can use her Q to regenerate the health her blades steal from her, and gradually regain favor. When Merciless, Irelia heeds their bloodlust, using Maul’s greatly reduced cooldown to cling to fleeing opponents.]
W: Hiten: Irelia calls upon her inner strength. Her next three basic attacks deal bonus damage and grant her additional movement speed. Desperate: Landing all three attacks within a brief timeframe will prompt her blades to stun the target and grant her Favor. Merciless: Merciless’s passive bonus is doubled. Irelia’s blades become an extension of her will, increasing her basic attack range and attacking all targets they pass through. [The bulk of Irelia’s typical trade damage comes from her martial art skills, passed down from her father. Demonstrating her skill and determination will call his spirit back to her aid when Desperate, allowing her to turn the tide of an exchange. When Merciless, Hiten allows her to easily cull her foes.]
E: Bargain: Irelia commands her blades to attack, dealing damage to nearby enemies. Each successive cast increases the ability’s damage, up to three times. Desperate: Lose health and gain bonus Favor based on damage dealt. Merciless: Gain health and lose Favor based on damage dealt. [Irelia’s greatest power comes from surrender. Bargaining with her blades allows her to survive impossible odds when her Favor is high, or gain just enough Favor when Desperate to cast a last-second Bladesurge. Irelia also has a Rumble-like balance between Desperate and Merciless in which Bargain costs nothing, acting as a free nuke.]
R: Bladesurge: Available at level 1. Can only be cast when Favor is greater than or equal to 100/78/56/34%. Irelia and her blades soar in target direction, dealing high damage to all enemy units in their path. After landing, Irelia will lose Favor rather than health when damaged, until she runs out of Favor or exits combat. Additionally, her blades will assist her each time she damages an enemy with a basic attack, granting her extra Favor with each strike and dealing bonus damage based on her current Favor. Killing an enemy Champion in this state will immediately restore a large percentage of her missing health. [Bladesurge is Irelia’s ultimate reward. Playing the early game well enough to cast the spell before level 6 can give her an enormous advantage over her opponent in lane. Later on, Bladesurge allows her blades to keep her alive at the brink of death, so long as she is able to satisfy their hunger.]
Just a pet project. If it shows promise, or if it's awful, tell me why.
