Champion Concept: Johan the Swordsman and Roger the Sword’s Man

Most of the information in the lore is based on the map of runeterra There are some information that you need to know to understand the lore There are beliefs that if you climb to the top of Mount Targon, you will be able to glimpse at the world of the Aspects(basically gods). Shadow Isles used to be a great place for learning. It was also hidden away from the mass World Runes are the magic used to create the world, and according to Ryze: Call of Power, 4 out of the 5 World Runes are already put back where they should be (?)

Lore: (this will be told in Johan’s perspective) Long before I was born, my family were explorers who traversed the unknown portions of Runeterra. They were the first humans to ever climb to the top of Mount Targon bare-handed. Their boldness was admired by the great Aspect Aresma (I'll make a concept eventually), and they are blessed with extremely good luck. They then traveled all around the world, creating a map that is at least triple the size of the current map of Runeterra. They traversed from the holy remains of Sun Disc to the notorious twin city to the once prosperous parts of the Shadow Isles, then they stopped, knowing it will be the last reckless adventure they will be allowed. There were no mysterious artifacts waiting for them to unearth. There were no city possessing unparalleled technology and knowledge. The only things waiting for the young couple were the lost souls and their shepherds. At first no one, and nothing, threatened them, for even the weakest souls could sense the new spirits within the woman. Yes, my mother was pregnant with me and Roger (Yo-han, for those of you who doesn’t know). The news quickly spread over all the islands. Not soon after my parents’ arrival, the greatest shepherd came to welcome us. Who? He’s Yorick, of course, I call him Uncle Rick sometimes. As a master of souls, he knew better than any doctor when will a child be born, or “when a new soul enter the world,” as he put it, and he knew that “moment” is now.

There was no medicine, no tools, but they had to use what they have. The dark magic in the atmosphere, however, seems to interfere with the “ritual.” My father even told me the mist whispered to him, and he was only sane thanks to the protection from Yorick. However, my brother and mother weren’t as lucky… She died giving birth to us, but the Aspects were watching, they always are. Yorick told me that when I was born, the magically aura I gave off cleared the mist for almost a full hour, until Kalista sucked away most of my magic. Mind you, she gave it all back when I turned six. My brother was less fortunate, he died along my mother, but his soul was engraved into the most holy ,or unholy, depending on how you look at it, sword of the Blessed Isles. The sword was not man-made – it was made by the World Runes themselves, protecting the world from collapsing. This sacred artifact was taken by the people of the Blessed Isles ages ago and were used to create the mist that not even the strongest sorcerers can see through, but the Aspects can, and so can their Chosens. I learned to wield swords as early as age five, and later learned to control them with my magic after Kalista gave them back for my sixth birthday. She was actually like a mother: vicious, strict, sometimes even cruel, but she still taught me how to fight and, specifically, her marcial poise and launch weapons at those who tries to hurt those I trust. It was not until my tenth birthday when I knew about my brother. Even till this day, the sacred sword gives me chills. If I remove the seal, apprentice mages like you will probably lose the ability to ever perform any sort of magic. Before working with my brother… Yes, working. He can talk and think just like any of you, actually, he definitely is wiser than all of you, as he shares memory with the World Runes. Okay, so before working with him, I had to practice sealing parts of the Isles where dark energy lurked for thousands of times. Oh, stop it, when all you do everyday is speaking with souls or practicing how to fight, sealing becomes the fun part due to its complexity. Well, that’s that, and when I reached sixteen, my father passed, and that’s when he told me that there were never any “luck” for them, it was always for us, their children. Aresma promised to grant their children the greatest power, and so we, my brother and I, are each blessed by a different Supreme Being: I am blessed by Aurelion Sol, while my brother is blessed by the World Runes themselves.

Well, that’s basically my life until this point (Johan is around 18). What? My next stop? I’m going to reach the peak of Mount Targon and meet the Aspects, of course!

##Johan


Passives: Master Swordsman: Johan have two main types of attacks, depending on if he is holding his sword.

AB: Ranged: If the enemy is within 750 range of him, Johan can auto attack an enemy by throwing out his sword, dealing from 20(+15% total ad)(+15% ap) to 160(+75% total ad)(+40% ap) [depending on level] damage to all units it passes through until it reaches the target (can be dodged by the target if they go outside of the 750 unit radius, but it follows them around if they stay inside the radius) Melee: 250 range; does damage in 45 degree arc that changes the “center” through 3 patterns The arc’s left 5 degree (so 17.5 degree left of the center) will be on the target, meaning you can deal damage to units right of you. Opposite of 1, so the arc will be hitting units on your left Single target damage. ^all do same amount of damage

XY: Ranged: After every attack, the sword stays at where it reached (or fail to reach) the target, this also includes the “throw” from “holding sword ranged.” Roger controls the sacred sword with magic, so you can target anyone within 570 radius (like any auto), dealing 10(+15% bonus ad)(+20% ap) to 80(+40% bonus ad)(+40% ap) [depending on levels] to all units it pass through. Your auto attack timer (so your attack speed calculation) starts only after the sword reaches the target. This damage is also increased by 100% to 10% to minions [depending on levels]

Chosen by the Dragon: Everytime Roger takes fatal damage (so what should’ve killed him), he would heal for 50(+10% total ad)(+10% ap) to 150(+85% total ad)(+45% ap)[depending on levels] instantly. A comet (very similar to comet as the keystone, but the radius is the same as ekko’s ult, making it virtually impossible to dodge without any dashing abilities) will also fly toward the enemy that dealt the fatal damage (prioritizing champions over minions), dealing 0(75% bonus ad)(50% ap) magic damage in an area. This passive’s cooldown is 360 seconds, unaffected by anything (cdr, runes, urf, etc.)

Breakable Seal: The seal starts with 100 hp. It will be kind of hovering above the sword if you put your mouse on it (You don’t want to it block your view...), there should also be animations when it reach 75, 50, and 25 stack. Everytime you auto attack, you deal 1 damage to the seal. The amount of damage abilities do to the seal will be specified below. When the seal reaches 0 hp before you unlock your ultimate, you will be forced to re-seal it, leaving yourself vulnerable for 5 seconds. It cannot be buffered, canceled, or silenced. You also can’t move during the duration. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Q: Thrust: -5 hp to seal >Passive: The holy sword can block skill shots and ranged auto attacks once every 5/4/3/2/1 seconds. Active: Johan controls the sword (both AB or XY), making it launch toward the direction of your mouse for 1100 units (this is ez’s q’s range, the radius is also centered around you btw) and deal damage to all units it passes through; it can crit. You can cancel the ability early(so while you are aiming, and before it actually launches), but it will still goes on cd unlike most abilities. ^Since the tip of the sword will always point to where you aim, this ability can also be used to adjust your sword (on the spot) to block a skill shot, so it must go on cd even if you cancel it by right-clicking. Damage: 60/90/120/150/180 (+60% AP)(+90% bonus AD) Physical damage|| Cooldown: 10/8/6/4/2|| Cost: 20/30/40/50/60 mana

Can act as auto reset; goes in cd after using the empowered auto XY: Johan can’t cast this ability within 2/1.6/1.2/0.8/0.6 seconds after his last auto attack. His sword deals damage in 270 radius of itself for 1 second, slowing enemies by 30% for 2 seconds Damage: (XY) 20/30/40/50/60 (+10/15/20/25/30% AP) /tick(0.25 second) Magic damage|| Cooldown: 8/7/6/5/4|| Cost: 30/35/40/45/50 mana

>Active: Johan throws out a random dager that he carries, knocking back the enemy it hit (cannot passes through) 100 units, and his next attack against them will steal 1% of their current mana and make it his own permanently. Damage: N/A|| Cooldown: 40/37/34/31/28|| Cost: 70/75/80/85/90 mana

>Sacred Sword: Johan calls the power of the World Runes, briefly(6 seconds) granting himself the power of the Aspects. Johan gains 5/7/9% lifesteal and spell vamp, 70/90/110 bonus magic damage for all his auto attacks, and his passive, Chosen by the Dragon’s cooldown will be reset (once, at the beginning of the duration), and his q’s passive won’t have a cooldown during the 6 second duration.

>Damage: N/A|| Cooldown: 60/55/50|| Cost: 150/160/170 mana Roger?: Will be automatically activated if seal’s hp reaches 0 (after unlocking this ability at level 6). The power of the World Runes destroys the seal completely (removing Breakable Seal forever). All champions (including allies) will lose 30% of their maximum mana, and 2/4/6% of that number will be changed into Johan’s ability power permanently. Useless against energy/non-resource based champions. Roger wakes up, and comes back to life in the body of his brother. You gain Roger’s abilities Roger? will be cast automatically for every 5/6/7 minutes after becoming Johan after its initial cast

You can only cast Sacred Sword when you use the ultimate, Roger? is more like a passive. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

##Roger

Passives: The Sword Himself: Roger’s auto range is only 170 (the only difference in their base stats), but his auto attack deals 20(+40% bonus AD)(+20% AP) bonus damage.

Cursed by the Runes: Roger’s abilities gain extra effects upon reaching max level (the levels are kept from Johan). Roger also has no resource, as he has virtually infinite mana provided by the World Runes.

Losing… Control: Roger loses 5% current hp and for every ability he uses, but he will also heal for 5% of the damage dealt by that ability. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Q: Thrust: >Passive: The magic of the runes protects Roger. He takes 50% reduced damage from turrets.

>Active: The World Runes take control of Roger, making him launch at an random enemy (prioritizing champions that you damaged last) within 750 units, and giving them a series of debuffs for 3 seconds. 5/6/7/8/9% slow 4/6/8/10/12% damage reduction (meaning you do less damage) Grievous wound -10/12/14/16/18(-7 per 100 ad) armor and magic resist Poisoned, dealing 2% (+1% per ap ad) of their hp per second as magic damage

>Runes’ Curse (max level): Increase the launch to 850 units, and Roger also deals 100(+130% bonus AD) Physical damage to the target.

>Runes’ Curse (max level): The range is increased to 210, and Roger gains 35 movement speed if it hit at least 2 units (including minions) for 4 seconds.

>Runes’ Curse (max level): Roger gains 40% attack speed for 4 seconds, and his auto attack range is also increased to 240 units.

>World Runes: Roger controls the magic of the World Runes to his aid. He will yank all enemy and neutral units (besides epic monsters) within 600 units toward him for 100 units, dealing damage to all these units. He then gains 30% resist (flat) to magic damage, and 10% of the damage dealt to him over the next 4 seconds will become Johan’s mana permeantly.

>Johan...: With the help of the soul of Johan, Roger is able to seal himself back to the sword, and Johan’s soul will be back to his body. Johan... will be cast automatically for every 5/6/7 minutes after becoming Johan after its initial cast

>Runes’Curse (max level): Johan’s damage from all sources will be increased by 30% for 4 seconds.

>You gain Johan’s abilities

Important Informations: >

  1. Roger has to be sealed to contain the power of the World Runes, for they are way too powerful to be exposed for a long time.
  2. Roger does not have control over the Runes, that’s why it is a curse rather than blessing (unlike his brother). It is also why he can not aim his abilities, and they will literally be toward a random direction (but still toward the enemy though, don’t want to make it tedious.)
  3. Johan had more time to practice with sword, and that’s why he can attack both melee and ranged, while Roger can only do melee.
  4. Johan is master of souls (thanks to Yorick), and that’s why his soul can remain unattached for a long time.
