[Skin Concept] Star Tyrant Syndra

Hey, boards! I'm back with something a little different this time; some concept work done for a project I worked on together with my awesome friends of Rift Artisans. You might also remember the fanmade Demon Teemo project we worked on!

This project is a skin concept for Syndra, turning her into a Star Guardian gone rogue. It has been under work for almost a year now! I had the fun chance to work on both the concept art and the splash for this project. We started work on this before the official Star Guardian Syndra was announced so the leaks set us on quite the emotional rollercoaster. Our version is a bit darker than the official one, as her backstory mirrors base Syndra's somewhat.

Unfortunately due to personal circumstances the team wasn't able to put together a video like the last time, but we're going to be posting them individually, so look forward to them uploading their work!

Anyway, this was a lot of fun to work on, and I learned a lot! Thanks for looking and as always, feel free to drop any critique in the comments, always appreciate it when you do that.

At one point, we explored the idea of having her outfit 'upgrade' itself whenever you put a point into R. The other three individual upgrades would spawn whenever you maxed a basic ability and unlocked Transcendent for it.

Starguardian syndra was such missed potential wish it was the legendary skin instead of ahri she already got arcade

ahri coulda gotten another legendary skin just not Stargaurdian i mean its not like riot is never going to not give her skins.Why not let some other champions have spot light hell it doesnt even have to be syndra just someone else who could fit the theme and if possible someone who hasnt had many skins given to them this year

you cant really deserve a skin i guess but its more that the choice itself doesnt sit well when there are other champions they could have picked yet they keep picking her for a skin i understand they have the right to chose who they give skins to but they are making skins for us the player base to buy they could stand to at least listen there to our feed back just a little

If it makes you feel any better, I suspect we won't see another Ahri skin for quite some time. Riot tends to step away from designing skins for champs that they just gave a legendary skin to.

Yeah, Ahri is not just a champion to riot. She is pretty much their mascot. She will get a skin very soon anyway.

This is s amazing and a WAAAAAAY better fit for her than "star guadian" since it doesn't conflict with her existing VO RIP. Great work!

now This is what Syndra should have been in the Star Guardian series: the tyrant villain. She fits so much better here than being a part of the actual hero group. But ohhh Ahri so much more popular and thus needs a legendary more than her. Such a fucking waste, Riot.

I agree that this would've been a much better concept for a Syndra skin than her Star Guardian one, but your Ahri bashing seems a little out of place.

I'm not trying to bash Ahri (too much), or at the very least single her out, I'm just tired of Riot continuing to make skins for the more popular champs when champs like Yorick and Viktor haven't had a skin in ages. (and yes I know Cass is getting a skin finally and they said skins are coming for many more as well but it's still a long wait for that)

Your frustration is understandable. But see, when you bash something in a pretty unrelated topic, it looks like circle jerking or something like that. It annoys people. Besides, I don't think Riot making a legendary skin for Ahri necessarily means they can't make another for Syndra. They just decided not to do it.

However, I must admit that, even though I am an Ahri main, I don't really agree with their decision. The current Syndra VO would've gone well with a SG villain skin, but an actual SG skin for her should've been paired with a nice VO to show another side of Syndra, like what she could've been if she hadn't been so dark. :P The one we're getting just feels wrong.

The thing is, Ahri needed at least 1 high tier skin, and SG is it. I really doubt Ahri will be getting any skins for a long time now. Probably her last one, depending on how long League continues to live.

I'm not mad that Ahri got the skin, but like, couldn't you say the same about all of the other star guardian champs? Syndra needs a high tier skin, Soraka, Miss Fortune, ect... That's kinda a bad argument. Now I'm not one of those people who spam yorick blah blah blah, and I don't think riot purposely makes skins towards popular champs, but legendary skins are 15$ so it would make a lot more sense to give it to arguably one of the most iconic league characters than say soraka.

Every champ needs a high tier (Legendary/Ultimate) skin. And you're right it makes sense to give popular champions a Legendary or Ultimate skin where the only unpopular champion to really have gotten one is Udyr but he might've been more popular back when he got it, but eventually I'm sure most champions will get a high tier skin.

Personally, I'm not completely happy with the theme for Ahri's SG skin, I would have preferred it to be more in line with her base personality but amped to 11 to make it a Legendary, but this is what she's getting and I'm happy with the overall quality of it.

But like, cmon. Star Guardian will be her eighth skin, if I counted right, and will be an 1820 Legendary. You (probably) saw the outrage on the boards about "omg another ahri skin" except this time it was worse because it was the Legendary of the set. I highly doubt she'll get another one within two years, and while I hope League will still be as popular as today, there have been worry trends as of late.

Yes, every champ needs a high tier (Legendary/Ultimate) skin. My point is, you say that Ahri needed one, you could say the same for Syndra, Soraka, Miss Fortune, Lulu, and the rest of them. Also yes I agree she probably won't get one for at least 2 years, but let's be real for a second here. League isn't going anywhere any time soon.

Seriously? You're honestly going to come in here just to blatantly insult what the majority of the community feels is the best part of Riot?

So you're dissappointed on one or more of the skins. That's fine, that's your opinion. But there's no need to call the skins team "lazy". Look at their past work: Elementalist Lux, DJ Sona, the PROJECT line, etc. Not to mention they release 6 to 10 skins a month. They could have anything between 10 to 20 skins in production at any given time.

How can you consider any of that "lazy"?

Flawless! This is EXACTLY what Syndra's skin should have looked like. This is who deserved the legendary. So much untapped potential... This concept proves just that.

The skin is so top heavy (in the headdress and shoulders area) that the exposed thighs just sees out of place, especially in the 'splash' where they're one of the first things you see and the exposed shoulders are mostly hidden. The skirt randomly being teal is strange, too.

I'm also kinda annoyed at 'Syndra is not a Star Guardian! She should be evil!' concept. Skins are supposed to be alternate fantasies.

That being said, you've put more thought and effort into this than I could possibly put into anything, and the art is fantastic as always. Good job.

For real though this skin is beautiful and theres definitely not any star guardian syndra skin with a ton of wasted potential psh riot wouldnt do that amirite guys : ^)

What Rito should do:

  1. Pull out star guardian Syndra last minute, claiming the skin is bugged.
  2. Re-release as Star Tyrant Syndra along with Star Tyrant Urgot

Damn it Rito, why can't I upvote this any more? Been talking about a "fallen" star guardian syndra for months now, and finally someone puts out an amazing piece of artwork for it. I can't draw/paint for poo

Man you guys can't seem to pick a skin design Riot hasn't already started working on I feel for you guys that emotional roller coaster is real. Hopefully it stops with this one and you guys can make a skin that Rito doesn't think up as well for a change - love this design, truly. I think it would have been a better fit then what Syndra did get for her Star Guardian look.

Tank my up vote. This legitimately makes far more sense for Syndra than what they did. :/ She is definitely more of a villian character or an older rogue Star Guardian than what they did with her instead.
