Gaius, the Rogue Shadow (re-work)

Role: AD Assassin

Lore: The Harrowing is a terrible event that causes numerous problems for Bilgewater each year. Yet there was one year in particular that stands out in many people's minds. During that one strange Harrowing, four children were actually born. Gaius was among them. His mother did not survive, nor did the 4 people present to help her bring him into the world. Their souls were drawn and bound to the baby boy in order to escape the Black Mist. Gaius was shunned by those around him as he grew older, but was otherwise able to live with the relative amount of peace anyone can expect from Bilgewater. While there were those who wished him dead simply due to the circumstances of his birth, he simply did not display any physical evidence that the Harrowing had turned him into any sort of threat. That changed when a drunken man made an attempt on Gaius's life. On instinct alone, the boy molded one of the five extra souls bound to his own into a sword and used it to cut down his attacker. Gaius fled Bilgewater immediately afterwards, knowing full well that he would now be seen as a monster and attacked on sight. He now wanders throughout Valoran as a mercenary, hiding his pain and past behind a false bravado of arrogance and a care-free spirit. But he does not stay in one place for too long out of fear that what he his would be discovered and turning everyone he meets into a sworn enemy.

Abilities: Passive -- Soul Forge: Gaius's abilities do not use mana. Instead, he has an ammo supply of Spirit Blades. Every time he kills an enemy minion or neutral monster, his resource bar will fill up by a set percentage. Once the bar is completely filled it will reset, giving him another blade stack. Gaius always begins the game with five blade stacks and maxes out at 25 (not at max level). The resource bar will fill automatically, no matter how much has already been filled, upon killing or assisting in the kill of an enemy champion. Whenever Gaius walks over one of the blades he has in the ground, he will pick it up and place it back in his ammo supply. **--Spirit Blades will only remain out for about 5 seconds after Gaius uses his his Q or W. Failure to pick up a blade within this time-limit will cause the blade to vanish and NOT return to his ammo supply. However, Gaius cannot have any less than 5 Spirit Blades in his ammo supply at any given point in time (causing his spells at 5 blades to be "free" until he gets more)-- **

Q -- Name in progress: For the next few seconds, all of Gaius's basic attacks will stick one of his Spirit Blades in the attack target with a cap based on how many blades are in his ammo supply at the time. At the end of the duration, those blades will explode outward, dealing physical damage to the target and reduced damage to all other enemies around within an AoE. At the end of their range, the blades will stick in the ground. Leveling this ability will increase the maximum number of Spirit Blades Gaius can hold.

W -- Name in progress: A number of Spirit Blades will drop down within an AoE, striking random locations within the affected area. Enemies struck by one of these blades will take physical damage and be slowed. This ability starts off with using 5 blades, with the number used increasing based on how many Gaius has in his ammo supply. Leveling this ability increases the maximum number of Spirit Blades Gaius can hold and slightly shrinks the affected area (increasing chances of targets inside getting hit).

E -- Name in progress: Passive - Whenever Gaius picks up one of his Spirit Blades, he will gain a 3 second increase in Movement and Attack speed. The duration of this effect is extended for each subsequent blade picked up in a row. Active - Gaius will dash to a target Spirit Blade, picking it up and all other Spirit Blades nearby upon arrival (triggering the passive-portion of this ability). This ability's passive effect will still be activated upon picking up Spirit Blades even while the ability itself is on cooldown.

R -- Name in progress: Gaius unleashes his Spirit Blades, causing "phantom slashes" to strike each individual enemy champion within an area around him for the next few seconds, dealing physical damage. Enemy champions will be hit with one of these phantom slashes every second or so, with the time in between individual strikes decreasing based on how many Spirit Blades Gaius has in his ammo supply at the time of the ability's activation.

I see that someone already down-voted Gaius. Though, I honestly think this is just some punk trying to troll me as there is not explanation as to WHY my concept got the down-vote. I've said it maybe hundreds of times on other concepts I've created, and I'll say it hundreds more times for Gaius and any other champs I come up with in the future: I need feedback. I don't mind getting down-voted, honestly, as long as the mistakes that I've made get pointed out to me so that I can look into fixing them. The ONLY exception to this is trying to put in numbers (cooldowns, range, damage, etc.) because I'm simply NO GOOD at them. But, I feel that I've ranted enough. Please give me some feedback, and please point out any major issues that I may have over-looked. Thank you.

So, clearly my choice of wording opened the flood-gates for a bunch of trolls to down-vote Gaius a lot, but I'm not giving up. If there is TRULY something wrong with my concept, I might not know what it is unless someone points it out. So please give me some feedback so that I can actually correct any mistakes I might have made. Of course, any comments like "This whole concept is a mistake" will simply be disregarded unless viable information is provided to back up such a claim.

I'm not giving up on this concept at LEAST until I've received some actual feedback. Should things turn around for Gaius thanks to my persistence, that would be great, but I'm currently just looking for valid feedback so that I may fix any mistakes I might have made while developing this concept.

So here's my opinion:

Gaius has some issues. I'm not really drawn to the concept, nor does it resonate with me, but that might just be a matter of presentation. We don't have any artwork or pics to give us an idea, so I've gotta use my imagination (always a dangerous proposition). Maybe what you're imagining in your head is super cool, IDK.

I think that, thematically, he feels like Irelia, or what Irelia could (should?) have been with the whole 'spirit blades' thing he has going on. I'm not a fan of his resource, but I can overlook it. His abilities, while functional, don't seem to do anything we haven't seen before - they're all basic 'deal some damage' abilities - though I like the way his E interacts with Q. Of course, maybe his abilities would seem cooler if we they had a name - you are trying to paint a picture for us, after all.

I also think his title is a bit of a misnomer. He doesn't really feel like a 'rogue' nor does he have much to do with 'shadows'. Personally, I'm glad you didn't include tons of numbers and ratios, as the goal here should be to find out if a kit or character's theme / flavor has weight. Apparently this isn't the case, but then again, this section of the Boards is full of trolls, so... who knows?

Overall I'd say keep brainstorming on it, maybe try to incorporate some unusual element that most people wouldn't conceive of - similar to how Riot's been doing with their champions lately (little yordle + massive hammer, divine dragon + star forger, kraken priestess + crossfit bodybuilder, cyborg sniper + obsessed artist, etc.) - and, as always, a little polish would go a long way.

For example, this is my custom champion concept I've been working on for a couple of months.
