@Meddler, No Communication Regarding Karma

Vanjie··17 votes·2,247 views

Meddler, this is yet another attempt for us Karma mains to get you and your team to COMMUNICATE with us about Karma. What are you doing? Why have you for the past three years not done an ounce of work on Karma besides a number buff, that you later nerf?

I am really making this because I read a post about how Riot thinks they are not communicating enough with us about champions and items. Well, here is your chance. You didn't listen to the community three years ago when you removed her entire identity, her fans, her dress, her shield bomb, and much more. You have multiple Developers saying conflicting things about Karma's current state. One Developer says that she is in a fantastic place and her visual update is great and fully imagined. Then there is another Developer who thinks she needs minor work done on her and a fully imagined visual update. Within your team there are conflicting opinions about where Karma is. It would be nice to have a definitive stance on where Riot lies with Karma and what you are planning to do with her. At this point you have yet, in the three years you "relaunched" her, to effectively communicate with the community about Karma. Why don't you live up to what you keep preaching about in your answers and finally start communicating.

This may seem like a whiny post to some of you. I am sorry if it comes off like that and I don't want to insult anyone. The fact is that all Karma fans are slowly losing faith in Riot's ability and willingness to work on Karma. The guy who originally worked on Karma didn't listen or communicate at all with the community. He outright butchered a champion that could have been relaunched into something amazing, but here we have a champion with no direction, an incomplete visual update, incomplete visuals and no proper running animations, a bland kit that takes elements from other champions and items, and much more.

With such great concept art, it is very disappointing to end up with what we have today.

http://lol.esportspedia.com/w/images/4/46/Karma_concept_2.jpg

This is what Karma was three years ago with her "relaunch". While she is still missing her fans and dress, the community whined enough and you gave in to what we received today. We still don't have fans and we still don't have a dress. Aren't the files for this located on your servers or something? Give us this. It's 10x better than what we have today.

http://lol.esportspedia.com/w/images/1/1d/Karma_Screens_1.jpg

This is the incomplete visuals and horrible visual update we received. Look at the relaunched visual update and then this one and tell me which is better . . . . I mean the other one looks more in-line with what we have in appearance today and it is more up to date. At this point since you refused to give us her fans and dress back, can you at least give us the visual update above? It looks 10x better.

http://imgur.com/a/dSvXc

Let's not talk about this travesty.

You didn't have the technology three years ago. I am going to assume you are going to keep with the trend and say the same thing for the past two years . . . . and say that you do not have the technology. If you did it for Ryze 7 times, why can you not do it with Karma?

Let's get down to the niddy griddy. Karma really only needs a new passive and her old one moved to R, a properly completed visual update, and maybe a new interaction with W or new W. Do people miss her fans, shield bomb, and dress? Yes they do. Since it has been so long since old Karma, players have become accustomed to new Karma and it would be almost impossible for you to go back. You would receive so much backlash for restoring old Karma . . . . at the expense of new Karma . . . and vice versa.

Riot, yo keep saying you want to communicate more with the community in posts, in Ask Riot, on Reddit, in an interview, and more. If you keep saying it for so many years now, why have you not actually done it? It's been three years and I have not seen you make a legit comment about Karma at all. All you have is an excuse. You said you would work on her during the Enchanter update . . . . well you worked on almost all of the Enchanters outside of the Enchanter Class update. You then said you would work on Karma during an Ionian Event. Well . . . . . all of the Ionian champs have received significant amount of work on them . . . . besides Irelia . . . who needs a VGU so she is basically excluded. You first said you didn't have the technology to work on Karma . . . . . but here we are three years later and you worked on Ryze 7 times . . . . and you have the technology now right? I mean you did it there 7 times.

The fact is you do not communicate enough about Karma and it is coming off as uncaring and lazy, which is what you said exactly in your Ask Riot answer. You have varying opinions within the Development team about Karma . . . . so what exactly is the problem and why has she not been worked on at ALL the past three years? The last three excuses are irrelevant now and proven false by all of your actions since then.

Again I am not trying to sit her and belittle you guys. I am making a thread, yet again, to restore what minuscule faith someone in the community has in you with Karma. You keep saying you want to communicate more about champions and about the game more. You keep saying it but you have yet to actually live up to what you keep saying you are failing at. You need to communicate more about Karma. You need to communicate more about Shen. You need to communicate more bout Morde. The community is losing faith in your ability to rectify mistakes, or maybe not so much of a mistake but the wrong direction, you made on three "relaunched and reworked" champions you did the past three years. Maybe it is about time you start acting upon what you keep preaching on about in questions and posts.

Thank you.

Karma went from one extreme to another; the original was very unique and overloaded with different themes, the rework was generic and completely lacked a theme. Her initial reworked state prior to 5.10 hinted that Riot wanted to keep some her duality alive in her kit with the shield bomb, and solidify her as a strong solo lane duelist with her RQ and RW damage. I'm not sure what she's meant be now, Riot have messed her by trying to make her appeal to more people, primarily people who wanted a support who could deal a ton of damage.

As we've seen from the 6.6 shield buffs she got, there's no way for Karma to be a good support without invalidating most of the other Enchanters. Her 5.10 changes completely stripped her of an identity, and instead of going back trying something else Riot doubled down on it to make it work.

The disturbing thing about the way Karma has been dealt with is that she had so many interesting themes to choose from, and Riot went with green blobs :/. I would have thought since she's still called Karma they could have at least maintained her anti-assassin status, being a champ who can punish aggression suits Karma perfectly. Even her initial reworked state was good at punishing assassins, until 5.10 came along to lock her into being a marksman dependant duo laner.

Imo I think Karma would be better off focused around being a solo laner, support will always be an option if champs like Brand, Vel'Koz and Annie can do it. At the very least Riot should revert her 5.10 Mantra changes until they decide to work on her in this fabled Enchanter update, she was fine before they tried to make her more of a support.

She's still good at punishing assassins though. I don't see how the green in her abilities gets in the way of this.

I'm not saying green blobs get in the way of anything, my point is in terms of communicating a theme they do a bad job. Also, she used to be a lot better at punishing aggression before her mantras were changed and it suited her well. I think her 5.10 changes were misguided because they diluted that aspect of her.

She used to be a lot better. Riot really made her into a late game shield bot.

Catastrop1 votes

I know, I played her then and now, but honestly, aside from her passive. I like the current kit.

Vanjie1 votes

I don't like w that much. It would be nice to have a different cc ability that isn't like Morgs R with Fiddles drain on it

DemoGuide2 votes

I liked her kit too. I played a lot of karma in season 4 and early season 5. But I also liked her original kit, and it was much more interesting in gameplay terms.

...or a late game "1 Mantra'd Q kills your ADC" bot.

DemoGuide1 votes

I dont really think original Karma was overloaded with different themes, but aside from that i agree.

IxtaliKing2 votes

I only say that from the perspective of how many champs could be made out of what she was, for example; a Geisha, a champ who uses fans as their main weapon, an actual Karma themed champ (built around her old passive), a duality/polarity themed champ etc... Current Karma is none of the above, she's just a green mage and I'm kinda surprised how many people are okay with that :/.

When we play new Karma, we see the shadow of the old one. Really, playing karma influenced me so much i started to greet my friends with "Peace" quote =D

IxtaliKing1 votes

She's such a great champ, it's a shame Riot doesn't see any value in her

Agreed.

Don't know why they deleted her theme and iconic abilities altogether. She was so fun and unique. I even bought her Sakura skin because it looked gorgeous and outstanding. Now it looks like that one old, strict elementary school teacher who sounded like a faulty French Horn. Just pure ugliness. Lets not talk about her only walking animation.

I really wish they used the full dress design in the concept art. The 4th one to the right. That one looks way better than what we have now.

Prof Nekko2 votes

wow people complaining about Karma getting ignored... Did I step into a time portal back to season 2?

Also it's good to see people still living my legacy of complaining that the Karma rework sucks and should be undone

SilverSquid2 votes

I am very glad I wasn't around for that "hey let's reduce Karma's RW heal for a while" debacle.

Made me think tho.

IxtaliKing1 votes

I was surprised not to see a post from you when that happened lol

SilverSquid1 votes

Yeah, I was working on a project for a week, where I barely did anything but work and sleep. No time for surfing. When I returned, I was about to make a hissy-fit, but they already quietly removed it from the PBE. I think you guys made yourself very clear on how you think about that idea :D

IxtaliKing1 votes

Oh cool, hope the project was a success :). Well, the preseason is here soon and Riot say they want to communicate a bit more so... it might just be time for one of your Karma posts xD

SilverSquid1 votes

As far as I've seen they prefer the ones that make a quick and precise point, while I prefer making long and elaborate points.

But, you never know! I'll go finish the one about Overwatch and Karma.

IxtaliKing1 votes

To be honest I think they just prefer the threads that aren't about Karma.

I look forward to seeing your next thread though :D

SilverSquid2 votes

It is done.

And it's long as faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.

vampirekid132 votes

dont worry true karma mains are used to the silence.

IxtaliKing1 votes

It's a shame that in the end, the true Karma fans are the ones who lose out and are expected to be quiet and take it.

Vanjie2 votes

Thank you all for the support! :D

Evenstar2 votes

Ah well, whatever the reds have said, they've said it all.

Class updates, Events, you name it. Yet time after time there's really nothing going on.

Oleandervine1 votes

I agree with everything you said, and I didn't even play original Karma. I did Google her though, and I have to admit, I love her old dresses and the nature of her kit.

Vanjie1 votes

Agreed.

Catastrop1 votes

I just want her dresses and fans back, I really enjoy her current kit.

Vanjie3 votes

She could at least use a new passive and the current one moved to her ULT. She needs a visual update more though.

Catastrop1 votes

I definitely agree here, this is the only part of her kit I feel is a bit shoehorned. I like that t favours trades, but I don't think it deserves to be her passive.

Sukishoo1 votes

Her visual is fine, she looked like crap before.

IxtaliKing1 votes

The game looked like crap before. Personally I don't think her visual are bad, but they could definitely be a lot better, she looks unfinished.

Dessem1 votes

But then she'd need a nerf somewhere to account for that "power" she gains from a real passive. I think if she did not have her current passive, though, Riot could lower the CD on her ultimate. (Probably to something like 35/30/25/20)

What sort of Passive do you think Karma needs to complement her current kit in a thematic way?

100% with you on Karma visual update. I only recently picked up (last year) the "new" Karma (after shield bomb was removed), and while I love playing her (most played in Ranked!), I sometimes look at old images of Karma and think her fans would have been cool and unique to have.

Would love a new VO to go with a VU. Sadly, given Riot's said they'll focus on VGU and eschew just a vIsual update, Karma's probably pretty far down the pipeline for some work.

I´m not sure but Meddler stated in a comment that he is most of his time in the Gameplay subboard. So if you want that he responses, then you should try it there. But anyway it´s still possible that he won´t see the post there or don´t response.

you kno why rito doesnt like karma? cause she wont let me back to ioania feelsbadman

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

In the end it's about priorities. Karma may be enh, but there are people in a worse spot, at least Karma is viable. Riot already has said that they're aware of her state a few months ago, but she isn't a priority. Yeah, it sucks, but they've communicated about it damn well.
