A Work of the Virtuoso, "The Day Zaun Saw Light"
"Why do you do this to yourself?" he asked himself.
The acidic rain of Zaun fell down upon the large piece of bronze's barrel. It wasn't just some piece of bronze however, it was an instrument. From it, his art would flow like a river.
"You do this to yourself you know? It could all stop", he lied to himself.
Well it was mostly a lie. It could never stop. He pulled the trigger and art exploded outwards. The bullet, like a dove flying across the sky, dove down into it's target. The moment was short, yet beautiful. The man blossomed like a rose lit by a candle. It was, to say the least, charming to the eyes. That was the first act. It was time to begin the second.
"Beautiful."
He whispered the word but, in his head, it echoed like a scream in a canyon. He knew he had to leave soon, but he could not resist the sight. Oh, did he have to leave? It was simply too soon to leave such a work of art. However, he knew where he was and he knew he did not have long. Like the shadow of someone else he knew, he disappeared just as the men appeared behind him. Confused and fearful, they did bother to look behind them at the trap they had set off. Both danced before they reached their final act. It was inspiring to him.
"However, I have had better works. We are still yet at the finale."
The rain fell upon his mask now. It was dangerous to be present in an acid storm in Zaun, but art was not a patient mistress. He slid down the slippery rooftop before leaping through the air. The world slowed down and he found himself in the perfect spot. He pulled the trigger and art exploded outwards. The second shot had been released and, with it, act two reached it's climax. Flowers exploded into the air, leaving petals all about. It was a heavenly scene, but this time the world itself demanded that he not bask in the display's perfection. All too gracefully, he flew into the window. To his right was a man that looked like a proper stage reject and, to his left, an obese pig.
"Why hello my darlings. Sometimes, instead of looking forward, it would do you wonders to simply look up you know?"
Bronze petals exploded through the room, touching all but their creator. Yes, it was a little cliche, but so was this job. He continued through the room, enjoying the view as he continued. Act two had ended, now he entered act three. The door was simple kick to open, and a tall, strong bouncer awaited him on the other side. The third pull of the trigger was instant and so was the man's final act. He fell to the floor and, from him, beauty bloomed. He stroked the beautiful display of art with care.
"They will remember this one."
He continued through the room, twirling his gun as he walked. Act three was a short act, but it was all a build up to act four. This was the finale. He hummed a tune as he walked through the house. No wonder the stagehands were so tense, the actors all only barely executed their parts. Throughout the house, beauty was all about. Bronze petals were all around and dozens of beautiful displays of art scatted the room.
"If I didn't know better, I would have thought this was a museum for the finest arts", he said with a short-lived yet sincere laugh.
The Chem-Baron fled the scene through the door. He was halfway down the street, his skin burning all the way due to the acidic rain. He wouldn't have lived much longer when the fourth bullet met his spine. The gunshot echoed across Zaun as Jhin then began to reload his gun. It only took a few seconds and the finale would took a little bit to bloom. He finished reloading the gun when, suddenly, a tree larger than most buildings sprouted from the body of the Chem-Baron, growing to an extreme height. The tree grew and grew until it pierced the clouds, parting them and revealing, for once, a clear, sunny sky in Zaun. The bright light likely blinded the citizens below, but Jhin was used to it. He fell to his knees and nearly cried at the sight. For once, Zaun could see the beauty he brought into this world. In the distance, he could hear cheering as citizens cried tears of joy at the sight of the sun. There was the applause he had asked for for so long. After a couple of minutes, the tree began to turn grey before disappearing into the wind as ash. Jhin was long gone when that happened. He had earned his pay and had exited the city limits of Zaun. As he rode away on the zeppelin, he shed a tear.
"I know I tell myself that what I do is wrong, but sometimes... I must say, it just feels right."
Zaun finally saw the light of the sun and was released from the grasp of one of it's most powerful and cruel Chem-Barons that day. Jhin knew of the risks and had prepared in advance. The play went just as planned and would be known throughout history as, "The Day Zaun Saw Light."
"Of course", he thought to himself, "they are going to leave out all the best parts."
