Champion Concept: Dim'Xi, Devourer of Light (Version 1.2)

Due to some comments I got for my last post of this concept, it has been brought to my attention that his kit was too OP and not assassin-like. I have since came up with a better tool kit that will better fit the assassin role, less invincible, and still be a perfect Lux counter. If you would like to see the original post, here is a link: https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/skin-champion-concepts/t4uR8ZAo-champion-concept-dimxi-devourer-of-light

Added Lore Upon his escape into Runeterra, Dim'Xi found himself in a buffet of raw magic that overflowed from the land. A feast that will last him centuries eat. Dim'Xi has made his home among the hidden ley lines, so that he can have direct access to his food. It didn't take long before his physiology adapted to his new lifestyle. Thus the result of the Rune Wars--as well as the reason for the League's creation--is now the only thing keeping the Dim'Xi from devouring the sun. The scars from the wars will heal much sooner, but is it worth it? They moment those scars have been fully healed, and the League's purpose has been fulfilled, darkness will fall... and The Void will win.

Updated Abilities Summary I have made it easier to build drool while also giving him a unique trait. I downgraded the R to a W, giving it more counter-play and removed the toggle. New E and R. Reduced the final damage amount of Q, but giving it more effects. Overall, his Q and W should be the counters he needs against Lux. The other abilities are more general assassin-like. Any mana using champion may have a hard time, but physical champs will have it easier.

Passive: Lumivore 2 parts Luminescent Drool Dim'Xi will generate a stack of Luminescent Drool (LD) whenever another champion uses an ability or whenever Dim'Xi drains mana*. Each stack increases his AS and MS by 3%, maximum of 20 stacks. If Dim'Xi has at least 5 LD stack, he will leave a trail of drool behind himself that dissolves after 4 seconds. Stacks lasts for 5 seconds and wear off one at a time (like health potions). Digest Raw Magic Basic attacks drain 1% of the target's maximum mana. Dim'Xi has a low mana regeneration rate, and items don't increase mana regeneration.

*--Just as it sounds, the target losses mana and Dim'Xi replenishes mana equal to the amount the target lost.

Q: Void Bite Cost: 30 mana, up to 5 LD stacks CD: 3 seconds Range: 125 Dim'Xi bites the target, dealing 60/90/120/150/180 (+60% AD) physical damage. Bonus added based on LD stacks spent.

  1. Reveals target for 6 seconds
  2. Drains 0.5/1/1.5/2/2.5% target's maximum mana (drains mana once)
  3. Deals double damage to shields
  4. Drains 0.5/1/1.5/2/2.5% target's maximum mana (drains mana twice)
  5. Deals 25/50/75/100/125 (+30% AD) (+50% AP) bonus True damage (calculated after bonus shield damage)

W: Refracting Scales Cost: 70/80/90/100/110 mana CD: 20/19/18/17/16 seconds Range: Self Dim'Xi maneuvers his scales to refract the light off of him, removing disables and becoming invisible** for 8/9/10/11/12 seconds. While invisible, Dim'Xi is immune to disables and take 20/25/30/35/40% reduced magic damage. If you have maximum LD stacks, Dim'Xi's mouth will glow and he will be camouflaged^ instead of invisible. Ability won't go on CD until stealth is broken. You can activate this ability while disabled.

**--Teemo-like stealth ^--Twitch-like stealth

E: Devoured Ley Line Cost: 55/60/65/70/75 mana CD: 16/15/14/13/12 seconds Range: 600 Dim'Xi dashes in the target direction while leaving a line of corrupted magic in his wake. Initially, he deals 40/65/90/115/140 (+40% AD) physical damage to all enemies he dashes through and stun them for 0.5 seconds. The line of corrupted magic will detonate after 0.5 seconds, dealing 50/85/120/155/190 (+80% AP) magic damage to all enemies on it. You can use this ability without breaking stealth.

R: Gorge The Sun Cost: 50% current mana (100 minimum) CD: 240/180/120 seconds Range: 1000 Targeting Matrix: 90% frontal cone Dim'Xi opens his maw and sucks in all sources of magic and light, draining 5/10/15% of each effected enemy's maximum mana per second over 3 seconds. Enemies in the effected area will have their MS reduced by 90% when moving away from Dim'Xi, but increased by 90% when moving towards him. Stationary enemies will be slowly pulled toward Dim'Xi. This ability will automatically end early after Dim'Xi has drained the cap of 1000/2000/3000 mana, afterwards he will fall asleep for 1.5 seconds. You can cancel this ability early at any time. The CD will be partially refunded by an amount based on the difference of the amount of mana that has been drained and the cap (maximum 120/90/60 seconds).

Summary Damage Type: Mixed Play Style: Primarily Basic Attacks with supporting damage from abilities Rankings

  • Damage: 3/3
  • Toughness: 2/3
  • CC: 2/3
  • Mobility: 2/3
  • Utility: 3/3

His greatest asset in a fight is the ability to rob the enemy of their resource. If you run out of mana in the middle of a fight, you're dead unless you can escape. Dim'Xi thrives at attacking the enemy while they are low on resources. Of course, enemies that don't use mana would be unaffected by this. His basic combat formula should be getting into position with W, pulling enemies while draining a massive amount mana with R, dash through them with E, then wail on 'em with Q and a lot of basic attacks.

Actually pretty good. Solid anti-magic stealth bruiser, even though I know you were trying to make an assassin. The stealth, while it lasts for a while, has clear tells, and Dim’Xi would have go give up a big portion of his damage in order to be invisible with no drool. The W can pretty much only be used as an escape if you’re in a 1v1 scenario too, which is a great feature. Otherwise it would be either a stealth into a fight or just a cleanse during a fight, due to the high LD interaction. Unless, of course, the Dim’Xi player is good enough to predict the quantity of spellcasts in a fight and can work around it...

Typical build for this guy would probably start with Gunblade and Triforce in either order, and then tank after that.

I have two main concerns:

  1. Much of his kit is useless against manaless champions. Veigar Primordial Burst used to scale off of the opponent’s mana. It later was swapped to scale with their AP due to how bad it felt against manaless champions. It was later swapped again to scale with missing HP because, again, it felt bad against non-AP champions. That isn’t to say your champion can’t have something like this in his kit - just that he relies on it too much in his power budget. Why not change everything in his ultimate from just mana to 50% mana and 50% HP? This includes the cost - it would then be 25% current mana and 25% current HP, still with a minimum of 100 mana spent and no health minimum. The ult would then drain less mana, but it would also drain health.

  2. He can’t jungle without being able to use Hunter’s Talisman mana regen. You could change the wording of this passive so that he can use Talisman, but you would then never see Dim’Xi played in lane. Or you could give him a large mana pool, meaning he can both lane against manaless/ranged opponents and jungle more effectively, so long as he watches his mana or has blue buff/tear (I’m pretty sure blue buff isn’t classified as regeneration, and I know ocean Drake isn’t) and can back where appropriate.

Some possible buffs:

  • Increase the E stun duration to 1 second. 0.5 seconds might work on an assassin, but not a bruiser.

  • Remove the mana drain from Q. Increase passive mana drain to 2% and have Q apply on-hit effects, with the fourth LD bonus specifically saying it applies the passive drain again. The current passive and Q mana steal are ridiculously small. Remember, 1% max mana at level 1 is typically less than 3 mana, sometimes even less than 2.

  • Add back the 300 range dash to Q out of stealth - but only if he’s also unseen. It’s a buff for Dim’Xi players who watch their passive to keep it from getting too high, or else they switch from invisibility to camouflage and cannot get within 300 range to use the dash due to how camouflage works.

All in all, I think this version of Dim’Xi is a great champion with a very interesting and skill-expressive passive in LD, particularly how it interacts with W. He just needs a bit less of a reliance on his mana-stealing (and a buff on it to his autos and Q).
