[Champion Concept] Gaunt, Denizen of the Fog
Hey there!!! It's me again, the one and only Candurill!! Back with a new champion concept :D Again I created a support, but this time one based around a mechanic I feel to be less explored then others. His kit is based on the disorientation of his enemies, luring them into wrong choices and making them paranoid. Only those who are clear of mind and without fear can truly tackle Gaunt and come out victorious....
Please take a look at what I've created and give some feedback on how i could make it better!! I'd especially appreciate some feedback on the lore, since thats a skill I need to develop some more :)
This concept is a contestant in the CCOS of July 2017. Take a look at the entry page to see the other contestants!!!

##Appearance:## http://i65.tinypic.com/2jahzrr.png
I imagined Gaunt to look just like his name suggests (this is NOT my art BTW, but concept art made by Adam Adamowicz for the Elderscrolls Skyrim, and I claim no ownership over it). Pale, thin and creepy. He's the very embodiment of the fog and he should speak with a very hoarse and breathy tone of voice. The only thing I want to add is that I imagined him with glowing red eyes...something this art does not have. But bare with me here and imagine him with glowing red eyes XD
##Character:## Gaunt is a mysterious being, similar to a spirit of nature or a demon (like Tahm Kench). He is the very personification of the unnatural fog that haunts the Marshes of Kaladoun and yet he is only part of it. I'd like to believe that he was once a Vastaya...maybe even benevolent...but the rampant magic of the Rune Wars, to which these creatures are really sensitive, have left him twisted into a being that hungers and feeds on life energy and emotion...

##Passive, Vampiric presence:## Whenever Gaunt deals magic damage to enemy champions, he syphones 12.5% (lvl 1) / 15% (lvl 6) / 17.5% (lvl 11) / 20% (lvl 16) of the targets movement speed to himself and the closest ally (within a 800 unit radius) for 1.5 seconds, renewing with every exposure (does not stack, effect is just renewed).

##Q: Closing In: ## Cooldown: 16 / 15 / 14 / 13 / 12 seconds Mana cost: 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 Mana
Active: Gaunt channels for 0.5 seconds, after which he becomes ghosted and will dash towards the cursor for 2.5 seconds (moving the cursor thus changes his direction) with twice his movement speed (includes bonuses he benefits from at the time of casting). During the dash he will rip through any enemy unit he meets, dealing 60 / 85 / 110 / 135 / 160 + 45% AP in Magic damage. The dash can be cancelled prematurely by reactivating the ability or dashing into terrain. Gaunt cannot cast any other abilities while dashing.
In fog form: Gaunt’s flows (dashes) his fog form towards a target champion within a 550 unit radius. Allied units are instantly hidden from enemy sight if no enemy units are within the fog.

##W, Dense fog:## Cooldown: 14 / 13 / 12 / 11 / 10 seconds Mana cost: 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 Mana
Active: Gaunt rapidly condenses the air around him in a 400 unit radius, damaging all enemy units for 60 / 105 / 150 / 195 / 240 (+ 40% AP) Magic damage and pulling them towards him (100 units).
In fog form: Gaunt condenses his fog form radius to 375 units for 3 seconds, but reduces enemy vision to the contents of the cloud. Additionally, Allies within the Dense Fog are "immune" to Critical hits (Meaning: If an enemy attack triggers a Critical Hit, it is calculated as normal Auto Attack damage), aside from having damage reduced by the normal fog effect.

##E: Fog form.## Cooldown: 16 seconds (after deactivating it). Mana cost: 60 Mana
Toggle: Gaunt dissipates into a cloud of fog with a radius of 450 units, Ignores unit collision and reduces all incoming damage by 35%. While in fog form, Gaunt hides all allied units like a bush. Additionally, when within the fog, enemies will have their vision range reduced by half, take 5.5 / 7 / 8.5 / 10 / 11.5 (+ 8.5% AP) points of magic damage every 0.5 seconds and cannot target Gaunt directly, but can still damage him with Skillshots and AoE effects. When in fog form, Gaunt’s Q and W have different effects and Gaunt cannot use auto attacks. When Gaunt targets a unit (Allied, Neutral or Enemy) he will stick to them as long as his movement speed is equal to or higher then that of the targeted unit. When enemy units from outside the fog target an ally inside the fog, the damage to that ally is reduced by 15%, which is in stead dealt to Gaunt (this damage is not affected by his passive damage reduction of 35%) **Notes: ** (Take a look at his quotes.) When enemies are within the Gaunts Fog form, all other sound is muffled, music, ambiance, even quotes of the respective champion. Only Gaunt is heard clearly, whispering, breathing and rattling....

##R, Façade:## Cooldown: 100 / 90 / 80 Mana cost: 100 Mana
Active: Gaunt dashes towards an allied champion and briefly hides both of them in a cloud of fog. When the fog lifts (after 0.5 second) Gaunt will have transformed himself into the form of the target allied champion and adjusts his attack range to fit that of the target ally (including non damaging visual effects, like Caitlyn’s headshot range increase, Rengar’s jump, Kallista's "hop", etc.). For enemy champions, both characters will seem identical, including Movement Speed, health, Mana and name. This effect will last until Gaunt takes damage from enemy champions, casts one of his abilities or Auto Attacks 3 times. If the enemy champion breaks the Façade by damaging Gaunt first, this enemy is feared for 2 / 2.25 / 2.5 seconds.
Icons are all from the Hive workshop :)

##Overall:## Gaunt is a support champion that revels at confusing and disorienting his enemies. From hiding his allies to restricting his enemies vision, he has everything in his kit to make the botlane a true horro-show. This, however, only counts if you know how to time his abilities right. Especially his ult "Facade" can be a real tide turner when used wisely and with good communication with your teammates. Not only can you use this to save one of your allies in a pinch, you can also use it as an engage, surprising the enemy with two marksman. Another possibility is to play mind tricks with other lanes aswel, copying the appearance of your jungler and ganking two lanes at once!! When used right, the enemy will never know which is the real carry and which is Gaunt, secretly giggling behind his team-mates visage...
##Synergy:## Gaunt Is not a regular support, in that he does not have any readily available healing or shielding abilities. He does give his allies bonus movement speed, which is most visible in his fog form, where he damages his enemies constantly. However, he will need to keep his enemies within the fog. A Marksman with their own CC could really help him with that.
Ashe:
Ashe's own CC will allow Gaunt to stay on top of his enemies for longer, dealing damage and healing his ally. The passive slowing of Ashe's auto attacks also synergises well with Gaunts own passive slowing. Their enemies will be reduced to a crawl!!
Kallista:
Gaunt could really use the extra CC and engage Kallista's ultimate facilitates. Simply go into Fog Form and have yourself absorbed by The Spear of Vengeance's ultimate. When you recast the ultimate, you will already be on top of your enemy, ready to starting blinding them!!
Rengar:
Having Rengar as a jungler could help Gaunt in a similar way as Kallista could. Since Gaunt's ultimate allows him to copy any non damaging passive effects on auto attacks from his target, he could simply jump into his enemies by copying Rengar's jumping passive. There he can simply wait until the enemy panics and breaks the Facade, or break it himself and explode into a cloud of fog!!!
Shaco:
One Shaco, Two Shaco....THREE SHACO?!?! O.o
##Counters:## Gaunt excels when he can get to his enemies and stay on top of them. Naturally, any enemy with displacing effects or movement abilities of their own will be able to easily get away from him to start hammering down on Gaunts lane buddy.
Vayne:
With Condemn and Tumble, Vayne has enough tools to keep Gaunt away from her and her allies, provided he is not already in fog form. Its almost as if she's trained to fight monsters...
Graves:
Graves, similar to Vayne, has a dashing ability that can allow him to escape the cold grasp of the fog. He also has his own little cloud of fog to reduce Gaunt's vision RIGHT back!!
Nami:
If an enemy is within the fog, Gaunt is immune to their targeted abilities and auto attacks. Good then, that all of Nami's CC is skillshot based!! Bubble, Tidal Wave... Both will allow Nami to slow him down, even when in fog form, keeping him away from her allies.
Soraka:
The Starchild is expertly equipped to stop Gaunt from getting close. Just lay down an Equinox under Gaunt at any time to keep him from dashing, condensing or even changing into Fog Form to begin with!! Plus, being able to heal all the damage he deals is a big plus...
##Builds:##
Gaunt can be built like any other tanky or AP damage support. His scalings with AP aren't great however and he will not do as much damage as you'd expect. His fog form gives him ample way to survive in a team fight, so building utility on him would be the smartest way to go. Any usual support item will do, just make sure you don't build anything that would compromise his Facade...
Liandry's Torment:
This item might give Gaunt some needed health and tankiness, while also giving him some AP. Additionally, the additional effect of Liandry's also really complements his kit, since he already slows upon dealing magic damage and the burning effect from Liandry's doubles (from 2% current health to 4% current health) on movement impaired enemies.
Gargoyle Stoneplate and Elixer of Iron:
These items both increase Gaunt's size and thus also the radius of his Fog form!! This will make it easier for allies to stay or for enemies to be kept within the fog.
DO NOT BUILD!!:
Zeke's convergence:
This new item, although seemingly very cool and useful, will trigger upon activating your ultimate, creating different effects on a Gaunt and a bound ally that are very visible!! This will give your enemies a very clear indication who is who!!!
#Lore:#
Kaladoun was once a wild and untameable region, full of forests, fens and flowing grasslands. The Rune Wars however, scarred the land beyond repair. Now known as a forsaken and desolate swampland, the Marsh of Kaladoun is home to a number of dangerous phenomena. The very land itself is a death-trap, for when you fall into one of its pools, it will quite likely be your final resting place. Many brave Demacian however, has tried to travel its treacherous murky paths and waters, to find and destroy whatever might be left of the weapons of those gruelling times, only to either return cold and dis-hearted or never return at all. Many a legend speaks of an unnaturally thick fog that suddenly comes rolling in from nowhere and which seems to have an almost sentient feel about it. They report an eerie feeling of dread and paranoia, as glowing red eyes seem to peer into a victim’s very soul from every corner. The longer one stays in the fog, the more exhausted they feel, until they collapse under the very pressure of the atmosphere. One is said to be haunted by apparitions of friends and loved ones, until their will is broken and they just give in… This is when the spirit of the fog consumes the little bits of life that still linger inside, while his glowing red eyes shimmer with satisfaction of another successful victim...
Before the kin of men reached the region, a single Vestaya called this land his home. Unique to both the world and his own kind, the young man had known no companionship other then the creatures of the forests and fens. Despite his ferocious appearance, he was no Kiilash nor a part of the Chyra, yet he sang with the silent chorus. Whirling songs tinged with confusion and bewilderment. And even though he was alone, he was content. He was fascinated by the magic around him. It flowed and pulsated, through all that lived and breathed. Eager to explore his own magic, the youngster tapped into the natural flow often, just to feel and sense what all other living creatures felt. But it wasn't just him that noticed the magic in Kaladoun... Mankind was in search of ever more powerful magic to fight their war, and sooner or later, their greed fell on the natural forces of Kaladoun. First they merely tapped into the flow, but soon they started to harness, capture and twist the magic into weapons. The rune wars had horrific consequences on the Vastaya, the pulsating outbursts of arcane power disrupted the balance that once found its place in the flow of magic all across Runeterra. The balance of light and dark, dusk and dawn. It's effect caused many to become mad, twisted by the opposing forces. The lone Vestaya from Kaladoun was no exception. The man that once dreamed and marveled at nature no longer was that man. The Rune Wars had turned him into something unrecognizable, a figure of shadows, pale as bone and eyes bright red, constantly surrounded by endless fog of confusion and imbalance. A fog that once held the memories of his former self. He was consumed by the fog and sought life force to satisfy his thirst, just as it once satisfied his curiosity....
Some nights, when the darkness reaches it's peek, you can hear him hum to same song, a silent song for a silent choir.

##Hunger...##
(I wrote this as a story, but this could just as easily be his teaser cinematic of-course ^^)
With a long stick she poked the ground in front of her, always weary of the pressure it took for her to penetrate the moss covered ground. If it went through easily, it meant she shouldn’t stand there. If not, she would have a smaller chance of drowning in the murky waters of the marsh. It didn’t make their journey fast, but with a determined mind-set she prodded along. Day’s had gone into the preparation of this expedition and everything was accounted for. The prodding stick, extra rations, special paper from Ionia that would burn even when its wet, extra- She lost her train of thought when she almost fell face first in the muck when the ground gave way to the prodding stick and allowed it to sink almost completely into the swamp. Strong hands caught her by the belt and pulled her safely back on her feet. “By the gods Yv!!! I almost thought I’d have to fish you out of the bog for a second…” The voice of the young man behind her was filled with genuine concern. Yvaine breathed deeply. “Sorry Tristan, I should be more careful…” She, swallowing her heart which had started to throb in her throat. “_It’s ok, I’m here. _” His reassuring voice was given more power by the two strong arms, which enveloped her. She felt his warmth flow through her and calm her nerve. She turned around and looked the young Demacian in the eye. The very act brought back the same flicker of warmth and happiness as she always felt when looking into those deep green eyes. She smiled. “_Maybe I should take the stick for now? You have been walking in front for the best part of the day. _” Tristan told her as he reached for the prodding device. “_Oh just hurry up you two!! _” Was the snarky remark of their traveling companion who had impatiently rolled his eyes. Tristan gritted his teeth and waved a lock of his auburn curls out of his face. “_Do you want to travel fast or do you want to travel safe Master Gail? I mean we can do away with the stick and just run through the swamp if you want? _” The middle aged man frowned. “I have no desire to be in this place any longer then we have to be. Use the stick if you must but the sooner we get to our destination the better…” Yvaine sighed and handed the stick over to Tristan. “_Fine then. _” She said, letting Tristan pass. She continued her pace, partially relieved that she was rid of the burden of the prodding stick.
With eyes as red as bloodshot rubies, Gaunt looked on at the trio traveling the marsh. He could feel it… Life… Emotion… ‘Huuuuungeeeeer….’ He heard from nowhere in particular. “Yessss…” He hissed. “It has been…Very long, So long….Too long… Since I last had mortal souls within my grasp. Beings, full of life, full of emotion …new …playthings…” He smiled a sinister smile, invisible through the thick fog but for a twinkle in his glowing eyes. He had always been within the fog…or had he been the fog?… He did not remember... He could control it, as if it was part of him. And it spoke to him through voices...voices of spirits trapped within...Or were these voices in his head? It did not matter... With just a wave of his hand, which could just as easily have been a slither of fog, the mist rolled over the water. Steadily, slowly, but surely, making its way through gnarled trees and jagged rocks. The voices in the fog moaned behind him... “Patience my pets… Patience… Everyone’s time will come… It is the will of the fog, the mist…of me…”
Yvaine looked around. She was sure she heard something…or maybe she felt something. She frowned, but shook the feeling from her shoulders. The sun had slowly started to sink down towards the jagged skyline, and threw long shadows over the landscape. “_I think it is time we found somewhere solid and set up camp. _” Said Tristan who had also noticed the setting sun. “_Aye, I guess so. _” Sighed Master Gail at the back of the line. Yvaine scanned the area around her and soon spotted a group of pines. “_There! The trees should make the area around it more stable with their roots! _” She called while pointing towards her discovery. The rest of the travellers agreed and soon they set foot on solid ground. As Yvaine predicted, the hard entangled roots of the trees had formed an island of sorts within the swamp. As a practiced machine, Yvaine and Tristan set up camp and lit a fire with the Ionian paper. Gail had grabbed one of his books and had started taking notes. Yvaine had long since stopped wondering what the man was writing down. He’d said it was some kind of journal, but neither she nor Tristan was ever allowed to read it. Not that she cared really. The man was a scholar, a nobleman interested in the artefacts from the Rune Wars said to litter these marshes. She and Tristan had helped many a scholar through inhospitable landscapes and this would be no different.
‘Hungeeeeer…’ Sighed the voices in the fog. Gaunt didn’t pay them any notice. Barely touching the ground, they made their way through the desolate land. He saw three humans, two male and one female. One of the males had stood up, put something in a bag and called something to his companions. He then walked away from the fire and through the trees. Gaunt frowned. “This one…Is old…His life won’t be a satisfying meal…but a meal non the less…”
Yvaine looked up from the fire when she realised it had been at least ten minutes since Master Gail had announced he was “going to take care of some private affairs”. The sun had already gone and set, leaving the marsh veiled in darkness but for the stars in the sky. When she stared into the direction the scholar had left them in, she noticed an unusually thick blanket of fog, slowly moving across the water. “Tristan? Look at that…” She said as she pulled at his cloak. He looked up and frowned when his eyes saw what she pointed at. “_Has our impatient companion come back yet? _” He asked. Yvaine shook her head. She stared at the fog, which seemed to come closer and closer. She started to feel uneasy, like a forbidding omen of something bad about to happen. She heard the rattle of steel as Tristan laid his hand on the hilt of the sword that lay next to him. Yvaine slowly scooted over to where Tristan sat. “_Tristan…I do not like this…I do not like this for one bit…that fog…it seems…unnatural. _” Tristan did not answer but stared at the wall of white that had made its way to the first few trees that circled their camp. As Yviane stared at the fog she caught a glimpse of something, a flash of red. That was all she needed to see. “_Tristan there is something in the fog!! _” She called, heart racing. Both of them scrambled to their feet and turned around, just to see that the fog had already encircled them. Yvaine turned back to the other side and pressed her back to Tristan’s. She unsheathed a long dagger she wore at her hip, fiercely hoping she wouldn’t have to use it. As the fog drifted over them, she felt as if the very atmosphere pressed on her.
There they were…Two mortals… In the prime of their life… ’ Huuungeeer…’ Gaunt heard again from within the fog. “_Yessss…These are interesting beings…they feel…so strongly…can it be…love? _” His red eyes shimmered with excitement. “_Love is a strong feeling…But can easily be transformed into fear...into...dread... _" His eyes fell on the female, with bright blue eyes and half-long brown hair. He came close to her, smelled her hair, her chest, her hands… ’ Huuuuuuungeeeeeeer…’ repeated the voices in the fog.
Yvaine’s heart raced. She felt as if she was being looked at. She felt something moving in the fog and saw another glimpse of something red in the side of her eye. “Tristan…Tristan I don’t like this…We have to get out of here…” She whispered while her breath quickened. But it felt like her words were dampened…silenced by the fog…
Gaunt’s eyes then fell on the young male, with his back to the female, one hand grasping the hilt of his blade, the other clasping hers. Gaunt’s hand ran over the young mans arm. He felt his life, his strength…
Yvaine felt Tristan move and the faint rattling of a sword being pulled from its scabbard. “_Tristan?! What are you doing? _” She asked fearfully…But again her words seemed to be drowned out by the thick fog. A sudden tug on Tristan’s arm made her lose her grip and fall. “_TRISTAN!! NO!! WHERE ARE YOU!! _” Her heart and breath raced as she started to panic. Wildly she grasped around in the fog, trying to get her bearings. She had dropped her dagger during the fall. Feeling paranoid and claustrophobic within the deafening fog, she tried to find it back...to no avail...
Gaunt frowned…The young man had felt his presence and had drawn his sword. He had hit the young man with his hand and send him flying against a tree. As Gaunt made his way to the man, he stood up and started slashing his blade around blindly, calling out for his mate. Gaunt simply floated through the steel of the blade. “Foolish boy…you cannot slice fog, like water, like air…” The man's eyes widened. He started calling again. Gaunt’s hand graced his cheek and smothered the man’s mouth. He leaned forward and whispered into the man’s ear. “She can’t hear you now mortal…” He felt how, through his very touch, the life energy of the boy slowly seeped into him. His skin turned pale, his eyes turned grey, and slowly he slumped to the ground. All life, all happiness had left his eyes. It was evident that his heart had given up. '_HUUUNGEEER!!! _’ As soon as Gaunt let go, the voices in the fog jumped the man, tearing what remained of his soul from his body. But Gaunt had already turned his gaze to the young female who sat on the ground, still trying to find her man and her blade.
“_Tristan…Tristan…Tristan please…Come back…Come on you aren’t gone…Tristan Come on!!! _” Yvaine’s cheeks were like waterfalls as she chanted the name of her beloved into the deafening fog around her. Her eyes darted from left to right, hoping to catch a glimpse of him. Then, suddenly, a light fell through the fog. A single star peeked through and welcomed her with its brilliance. She had never been this happy to see a single star. As the fog started to fade, she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned, startled, only to see Tristan’s family signet ring on the hand’s finger. A wave of relief washed over her as she bolted upright and pressed herself against Tristan’s chest. “_Oh Tristan!! For gods sake!! I thought I’d lost you…Never leave my like that again!! _” Her heart was lifted once more and warmth crept back into her limbs. As the fog lifted, she looked up to see into his familiar face. She saw his curls, his handsome smile, his deep green eyes… Her breath cut short in her throat. As she looked into Tristan’s eyes, she missed something…There was no warm feeling…no flicker of happiness…The love she had always felt between them…It was gone. She stepped away from him, her breath once again getting heavier and heavier. “You…you aren’t Tristan…Who are- “ Her question got stopped short by a scream as she tripped backwards over something behind her. When she looked back up to see what it had been, her heart skipped a beat. Next to her lay a pale man with a auburn curls. “_Tris-…Tristan? _” Her voice quivered. She looked back at the man standing in front of her. His smile had turned from handsome to menacing and his eyes had started to shine blood red. Slowly Tristan’s features gave way to a pale grey being, with a gaunt face, a slit for a nose, long, sharp fingers and bright red eyes. The illusion faded like she woke up from a dream. She barely had time to scream before the creature came for her... Then, everything went black…
