[Champion Concept] Torvald, The Storm Bellow
Hey everybody :D thanks for looking at my champion concept!!
I made him and his lore within the concept of a series of champions im calling "The storybook series". These champions are all beings out of Runterra's local folklore. If you are interested, here are the others i've made so far: For Ionia: Chayon, The Shepherd of the Afterlife who is a benevolent spirit that guides lost and tormented souls to the afterlife. For Shurima: Sham'a, The Candle Maker who is a jolly spirit of light and kindness that protects those in need through his candles. For Demacia: Ethea, The Primordial Spirit who is the bringer of the end times that wields 3 forces of nature on the battlefield. For all of Valoran: Laurell, The Forest Guardian who is a nature deity that pops up in multiple tales all around Valoran and protects nature with fury.
For the CCOS judges: I commented on Tesla, The Lightning Rod for the Bonus points :) Here is a link.
Identity:
Name: Torvald Race: Spirit Gender: Male Origin: Freljord

Appearance: The picture I provided is not made by me and I take no credit for it!! It is just a representation of what I imagined him to look like. He should probably wear some more clothing...But I do want to give him the whole masculine god kind of vibe with his bare chest and beard. His voice should be loud and thundering, just like his laughs.
Kit:
I imagined him as a tanky mage that would do well on the midlane or toplane. Through the process of making him however, I thought of the possibility of him playing Jungle. His kit does give him some powerful ganking combo's aswel as some sustain. His weakness would be champions that can deal a lot of damage in a short time, before he either catches up to them, or starts healing a lot of it back. Champions that can kite him or keep him at a distance are also very strong against him. Either way, I hope that you guys will see him for the unique and powerful champion he is :) If you have questions or feedback, feel free to post them here :D
HEALTH 586 – 2201 ATTACK DAMAGE 54 – 105 HEALTH REGEN. 6.9 – 16.3 ATTACK SPEED 0.670 (+0% – 42.5%) STATIC POWER 100 (=1000 MANA) ARMOR 22.0 – 70.6 MAGIC RES. 26.1 – 75.4 MELEE 175 units MOV. SPEED 360
Auto Attacks: Torvald punches his foes with strong, lightning powered fists for a melee range attack.
Static Power Bar: In stead of a Mana bar, Torvald has a bar filled with Static Power. Building bonus mana will raise the maximum amount of static Power with a ratio of 10 to 1 (10 mana translates into 1 Static Power). Static Power does not generate on its own, but is gained by attacks around him. Attacks by minions in his field of vision each generate 1 (lvl 1) / 3 (lvl 6) / 5 (lvl 11) / 7 (lvl 16) Static Power on hit. Champion or monster basic attacks against him (enemy's targeting him and his own attacks) generate 10 (lvl 1) / 12 (lvl 6) / 14 (lvl 11) / 16 (lvl 16) Static Power. Enemy abilities that hit him or an ally within his field of vision generate 20 (lvl 1) / 22 (lvl 6) / 24 (lvl 11) / 26 (lvl 16) Static Power. Static Power will start depleting slowly (2 per second) if it isn't being used or filled for 3 seconds.
Passive, Storm's Vigor: Torvalds defences raise as he gains more Static Power. If his Static Power bar is filled for 60% or more, he gains 6 / 8 / 10 / 12 (+ champion level) Armor and Magic Resist. If it is filled for 80% or more he gains 7 / 12 / 17 / 22 (+ champion level) Armor and Magic Resist. Once his Static Power hits 100%, Torvald will gain a shield equal to 10% of his maximum health, that won't deplete on it's own. Once destroyed, the shield will go on cooldown for 30 seconds. This passive upgrades on levels 6, 11 and 16.
Q, Storm Bellow: Static Cost: 35 upon activation Cooldown: 12 / 11 / 10 / 9 / 8 seconds Passive: If his Static Power bar is filled for 60% or more, his base health regeneration is raised by 30% / 40% / 50% / 60% / 70%. If it is filled for 80% or more his base health regeneration is raised by 60% / 70% / 80% / 90% / 100%. Active: Torvalds sends out a sonic blast that will deal 45 / 80 / 115 / 150 / 185 (+ 55% AP) magic damage in a cone in front of him and knocks back all Enemies within the first 100 units of the cone.
W, Discharge: Static Cost: 5 every empowered attack / 15-60 upon activation Cooldown: 15 / 14 / 13 / 12 / 11 seconds (Passive is deactivated while its on cooldown) Passive: As long as Torvald has at least 20% of his Static Power bar filled, every 3de basic attack deals 5% / 7.5% / 10% / 12.5% / 15% of his AP as bonus magic damage that will arc to 3 more nearby enemy units in the form of a bolt of lightning dealing the same amount of damage, but consuming 5 static. Active: If Torvald has at least 15 Static Power, he will be able to activate Discharge. A burst of lighting will deal 40 / 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 (+ 50% AP) and slow enemies by 10% / 12,5% / 15% / 17.5% / 20% in an area around Torvald, traveling further with every 15 Static Power that it consumes. 15 Static Power: 200 units instantly 30 Static Power: 200-300 units after 0.5 seconds 45 Static Power: 300-400 units after 1 second 60 Static Power: 400-500 units after 1.5 seconds
E, Thundering Feet Static Cost: 2 every second Cooldown: 12 / 11 / 10 / 9 / 8 seconds after deactivation or running out of Static Power. Passive: Torvalds steps generate Static Power for as long as hisStatic Power bar is filled for less then 50%. Every step Torvald sets he will generate 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2 points of Static Power. This passive will deactivate if the active effect is toggled or if his Static Power reaches 50%. Toggle: Torvald empowers his legs with Static Power, gaining 20% / 25% / 30% / 35% / 40% movement speed at the cost of 2 Static Power every step (0.5 seconds of walking). Every step will also send out a shockwave through the ground that slows nearby enemies (within a radius of 200 units of Torvald) by 20% / 25% / 30% / 35% / 40% decaying over 2 seconds, renewing after each exposure up until a maximum of 4 seconds in total. After the effect has run its course, the effected enemy is immune for 10 seconds.
R, Static Cage: Static Cost: 80 upon activation Cooldown: 150 / 125 / 100 seconds Active: Torvald channels for one second, after which he releases and creates a Static Cage in a 600 unit radius around him. The cage will hold for 4 / 4.5 / 5 seconds. Any enemy that tries to leave will take 325 / 475 / 625 (+ 120% AP) magic damage and is violently hurled back towards the center of the cage. Any one champion can be effected only once. While in the cage, all of Torvalds Static Power incomes are doubled, costs are halved and the passive effect of Discharge will apply on every auto attack he does, without cost. Torvald also becomes more powerful with more Static Power. For every 10 points of his max Static Power Torvald will gain 1 / 2.5 / 5 AP. After the Cage has run it's course, all passive effects on his abilities are put on cooldown for 10 seconds.
Playstyle:
General:
Building him a bit tanky is a must. Because his Static Power is only generated with attacks (or moving if you level Thundering Feet), he should be able to take a few hits. But do not start with tanky items. No matter where you play him (Mid, Top or Jungle) building a Archangels Staff
will work well with his kit more then other champions. Every time his Discharge passive activates, it counts as a spell, so stacking it up into Seraphs Embrace
won't take all too long.
Jungle Torvald:
or
Playing Torvald jungle will offer powerful ganking combo's. Building generally the same as Mid, he could dish out lots of damage, while also being able to tank the jungle camps fairly easy. The trick is to put the first skillpoint in Thundering Feet. This will allow him to generate some starting Static. Then, when he raises to level 2, upgrade bellow and just soak up hits to gain more static power. Bellow's passive will start healing him if he has enough static power, aswel as it's active being a powerful disengage for if camps go south or he gets counter-jungled and with Discharge he will add some extra damage to clear camps with.
Ganking should be limited until Tovald has his Static Cage. If needed, Torvald can thunder into the lane with his E active before he has his R, slowing the enemy, but without being able to deal loads of damage, it will probably fall to the laner to pick up the kill. If you do have his R however, ganking becomes a breeze. Preferably dropping in on a target that has already used its Flash, trapping them in a Static Cage will almost assure a succesful gank. Come running into lane with Thundering Feet to slow the enemy down and then activate Static Cage. Then you can either dish out damage with your Discharge passive or throw them into the edge of the Cage with Bellow. If they are somehow not finished afterward, you probably still have lots of Static Power left to finish them off. If not..well, hope for the best...
Lane Torvald: Tanky enough for the toplane and damagy enough for midlane, Torvald has it all. In lane you should always start out with leveling your Thundering Feet. This will load up your Static Power on your way to the lane, allowing you to trade when you reach level 2 and put a point in Discharge. This allows for some herras and easy farming, provided you time the passive right. If the opponent is especially pokey or agressive, putting your second level into Bellow allowing for a disengage and some sustain. From the moment you level Static Cage you should keep an eye on your opponent for when they use Flash. Though easily thwarted with this summoner spell or any other teleporting ability, you Static Cage is an almost certain deathtrap for your enemy, provided they can't get away from you. Static Cage might also prove useful as a way to get your team away from a fight that went sour.
Lore:
Report on Torvald, The Storm Bellow from "Legendary beings of Valoran." - By Candurill Gellius, schollar and historian at the Royal Acadamy of Demacia.
In the harsh Freljord, weather is not something to take lightly. Many storms frequent the northern parts of Runeterra and thus it is no wonder that Northern Folklore tells of a spirit that commands the thunder and harsh winds of the Freljord. Named Torvald, The Storm Bellow, the Northerners refer to him with the respect fit for a god. With his hands and feet he's said to light the sky with lightning and with his loud bellow he rocks the clouds with roaring thunder. The people of the Freljord have very few written texts of ancient times. For them (and to much dismay to historians such as myself) the spoken word is just as trustworthy. From the few written accounts that do exist, we can date Torvald's first appearance in Northern folklore to somewhere between the arrival of the Frozen Watchers and the Iceborn rebellion. It is unclear what exactly made him like he is, though many historians theorise he is the product of a powerful Iceborn trying to tame the Gelid Vortex (the unceasing storm circling the northern hemisphere of Runeterra, for those who do not know), trying to channel the powerful storm into a physical form. Seeing as how the storm still rages, the Iceborn clearly either failed to complete his work, or never attempted the endeavour. Torvald does reflect the unrelenting power of the storm very well however, frequently described as an unruly and stubborn man with a loud, bellowing laugh and a hot (or should i say cold) temper. Torvald himself is not much more help then the few documented records Freljord has. Describing his own creation (if it even is something like that) as simple as: "And suddenly I just was!!". He does not really care for trivial things like the past...
Included I have an Avarosan song, sang by children to be less afraid of the thunder. By trying to sing and shout it louder then Torvald's thundering Bellow's, the children try to appease him and gain his favor.
Hear me bellow and hear me roar, hear the wind pulling at the door. Outside is where he rages loud, and stands on clouds high and proud. Hear me bellow and hear me roar, louder then I've heard before. With fist and hand he hits the beat, And lights the thunder with his feet. Hear me bellow and hear me roar, feel his voice tremble through the floor. Dare not disturb him once he's begun, For this storm goes on until he's done.
**Quotes: **
Attacking: “Here comes thunder!!” “Lightning strikes!!” “The storm has come!!” “You made me angry!!” “BWA HA HA!!” “HA!!”
Moving: “Thundering on!!” “Rolling thunder!!” “Static rises…” “The storm approaches!!” “On to the sound of thunder!!” “Where will I strike next…” "They won't steal MY thunder!!"
Taunt: “I doubt that you’ve experienced a storm quite like this!!” “I am a being of Heaven and Earth, of thunder and lightning, of rain and wind…Try and stop me…If you dare!!” “Fighting me is like trying to catch me in a bottle!!!" (Ally Janna): "Well hello, M'lady. Why don't we find some place quiet and make a storm together?" (Enemy Janna): "Storms fury? BWAHAHA!!" or "Why don't you go and dry someones hair or something..." (Ally Ashe): "Has anyone ever told you that you sure are 'hot' for a child of an Ice born?" (Enemy Ashe): "Your arrows are at my mercy girl, so pay your respects!!" (Ally Sejuani): "BWAHAHA!! I like my woman as I like my thunder; Loud and fierce!!" (Enemy Sejuani): "Good, dinner has arrived!!" or "Oh I do love me some lightning roasted Boar!!"
Joke: Torvald sets his arms in his flanks and laughs vigorously. “They say lightning never strikes the same place twice…lets put those words to the test shall we? BWA HA HAA!!”
Casting Storm Bellow: “HAAA!!” “HA HAA!!” “BWAHAA!!”
Thanks for taking a look :D Upvote if you liked it and Downvote if you didn't like it (but if you do, please be a good person and say why you dislike the concept).
