Bramble Vest Build Paths

Glamorous Rammus here! I had some ideas for new Bramble Vest build paths. In this post I will discuss the following:

  • Thorns becoming a stackable passive
  • Bramble Vest Build Concepts
  • Reasons these concepts are viable to a variety of champions

Thorns becoming stackable So first, you might be skeptical of thorns becoming a stackable passive. However, Bramble Vest build paths shouldn't be so overwhelming that players stock their inventory with Thorns items. Also, the items I have in mind are more focused on their own Unique attributes over the Thorns passive. Allowing the Thorns to stack doesn't need to be overwhelming.

Item Concepts There are Three concepts I had in mind for Bramble Vest. One of these is a re-worked Thornmail. Basically, I think of the current Thornmail as a temporary band-aid to the Life Steal paradox.

Magma Mail

item 3076 + item 1028 + item 3751 + 750 Gold 2950 Gold +50 Armor, +500 Health, +25 Thorns Unique Passive: Damage from thorns burns the enemy, dealing 10 (+ 1 per Champion level) Magic damage in an AOE.

Blizzard Mail

item 3076 + item 1027 + item 3082 + 700 Gold 2950 Gold +80 Armor, +300 Mana, +25 Thorns Unique Passive- Cold Steel When hit by a basic attack, reduces the attacker's Attack Speed by 15% for 1 second.

Thornmail

item 3076 + item 1028 + item 3076 + 800 Gold 3000 Gold +90 Armor, +200 Health, +35 Thorns Unique Passive +15 Thorns against enemies below 50% Health, Redirect damage from basic attacks equal to 10% Bonus Armor

Why this works Essentially, Thorns is a set amount of damage redirected- so the stacking isn't very strong. Also, the purchase of all three isn't as glamorous as building other options. From Bami's Cinder, a Jungle Item or Sunfire Cape may still be more suitable options. Also, different champions will be able to build from Bramble Vest more effectively. Allowing more options satisfies the variety of kits our tanky champions use. For example, Braum might investigate a Blizzard Mail, but not the other two. Volibear might make use of Magma Mail, but grab Randuin's instead of Blizzard Mail. Rammus would purchase Thornmail and Magma Mail but would probably avoid the Blizzard Mail altogether.

Let me know what you think!

The redirect is a big issue, because champs who just stack thornmail's will take literally 0 damage against physical damage as that damage is reduced a lot by the armor already, then even more with a flat damage reduction. Stacking 6 of them would result in 84.375% (from the thornmails armor only) damage reduction, along with 210 damage reduction, increased to 225 below 50% health. Lets just say the average adc damage per hit is 1000 (is actually lower for most adcs, only cait jinx twitch and Draven really ever exceed it) their damage is reduced by 84.375%, already cutting it down to 156.25 total damage, which is easily negated by the 210 reduction. The player would need to do 1286.4 damage per hit (again only including thornmail armor) to do 1 damage total. So stacking them would indeed be overly effective to an outstanding degree.

Though i do agree variations of the item would be a better alternative, this is just not the way to go about it. Though current thorn might just be bugged, but trynd shouldn't be healing 79 hp a hit into a tank with 300 armor and a thornmail with only 10% lifesteal and no pen. They have thornmail in the right direction, but stopped its development short of the mark.
