Hello, my name is Othello the Cat. For almost a year now, I've been working on a champion in the forums. I've gotten help from other members, and they have contributed to what I am about to show you today. With the conversion of the forums to the Boards, I figured that I should bring my pride and joy over to here as well, so I present to you, Latimer, the Thorn of the Black Rose. Please, enjoy and critique him; I'm still open to change.

Latimer, the Thorn of the Black Rose Assassin/Support, Melee

Appearance: http://i.imgur.com/om3clRh.jpg[/IMG

A golden-haired man with pale skin in an attractive way. (think LeBlanc-toned) His eyes are a deep black and his hair is in a ponytail with bangs just low enough to frame his face while high enough for his eyes to still pierce through you. His mouth is frequently in a cocky grin that dazzles all who see it, and it is accessorized by his trademark pencil-thin moustache and goatee, a darker color than his hair. He frequently wears a green-black vest with gold buttons and a white blouse beneath. He wears pinstriped pants and thick black leather boots. In his right boot, he keeps a butterfly knife. In terms of body size, he is fairly thin, but not scrawny; the best term for it would be lean.

Abilities:

Passive: Feign If Latimer's health is lowered to 15/12.5/10% (1/7/13), Latimer becomes invisible for 3 seconds while a clone of himself does his death animation where he turned invisible. This does not proc the "Latimer has been slain" announcement and he can still move and be killed while invisible. Casting an ability or attacking ends the invisibility early. Cooldown: 60

Q: Spotlight Latimer conjures a spotlight to shine on a certain area or champion nearby, revealing the area. The spotlight will then center on the first champion to enter it or the champion that Latimer targeted, following it while continuing to reveal the area around it for 5 seconds. If Latimer or an allied champion is in the spotlight, they get an extra 20/25/30/35/40% Attack Speed and an extra 20/24/28/32/36% (+1% per 20 AP) Movement Speed. If an enemy champion is within the spotlight they do not get the buff. Activating the ability again during this time teleports Latimer in the spotlight, regardless if it has already latched onto a champion. Mana Cost: 40/45/50/55/60 Cooldown: 14 Range of Cast: 700 Radius of AoE: 200

W: Tragic Actor: Latimer marks an enemy champion and reduces their Armor by 20/25/30/35/40 for 3 seconds. If Latimer attacks the marked enemy with an auto-attack, the attack gains a bonus 1.1/1.25/1.4/1.55/1.7% total AD per 1% of the enemy's total health missing. (E.G., 30% missing, 33/37.5/42/46.5/51% AD bonus) The mark can be procced three times before disappearing. Mana Cost: 90 Cooldown: 12/11/10/9/8 Range of Cast: 350

E: Staged Fight Latimer taunts himself and an enemy champion for 2 seconds. During this time they may damage eachother, but the enemy cannot kill him and he cannot kill the enemy. Both can be killed by outside forces during the taunt. At the end of the taunt, Latimer does a final blow, dealing 20/25/30/35/40% of the total damage dealt in Physical damage over the fight to the enemy. This damage does not include damage dealt from turrets. Mana Cost: 60/65/70/75/80 Cooldown: 13/12/11/10/9 Range of Cast: 400

R: Finale Latimer closes his curtain around him, reducing the vision of champions and slowing enemies within for 30/40/50% of their Movement Speed for 4 seconds. No enemies on the outside of the curtain can see within the curtain either. After closing, he deals 175/300/425 (+150% AP) Magic damage over 3 seconds to enemies within the curtain. Mana Cost: 100/110/120 Cooldown: 120/100/80 Radius of Curtain: 400

LORE:

The Black Rose may be known for their magicians and their obsession with keeping everything they do a secret, however there is one member in particular who defies that stereotype, as he not only makes what he does known, but he makes it an astounding act that fears and entertains those who watch. The man does this is named Mikhail Latimer, and he just so happens to be one of the most decietful members of the Black Rose as well.

Mikhail Latimer had always wanted to act, he was obsessed with the many theatre prosuctions that went on in Noxus before it became a power-hungry city. However, his father disapproved of such actions, as he had wanted him to be his apprentice at the town's Smithy, and the disapproval slowly grew over time to full-on hatred of Latimer's dream. When Latimer came of age, he tried to get as far away from his father as possible so he could no longer feel the absolute rage coming from him and focus fully on becoming a great actor.

Many years pass and Latimer becomes a world-reknowned actor, spanning the world between Bandle City and Ionia with his thespian ways, even impressing those in the militaristic state of Noxus. However, after one show in Noxus, he decided to stroll around the city and drink in the atmosphere so he could prepare for his next tragic role. What he did instead, however, was stumble upon an entrance to the underground catacombs of Noxus. Thinking that sewage and human waste would prove better inspiration, he went inside and began to walk in there.

He eventually got lost, and began to panic. He scrambled to find a way out of the awful place he was now in, and came upon a black and purple metal door. He opened it thinking that this must be the way out, but instead he came upon a meeting of the Black Rose. Latimer tried to leave the moment he recognized LeBlanc, but he then realized that they hadn't noticed him come in. He realized he could use whatever they talk about as leverage to get the Black Rose to work for him, for whatever reasons he would need, so he stayed and waited.

He heard incredibly interesting things, fascinating things, dangerous things that seemed impossible to do that were explained in such a way it seemed a child could do them. He no longer wanted to blackmail the Black Rose, he wanted to join them. When the meeting ended, he remained in hiding a while longer, to be certain he was alone. He then quickly sprinted out of the door he came in and conveniently found an exit out of the sewers.

The next few months for Latimer were good ones. He had begun writing plays which he himself performed in, but unbeknownst to the audience, he put the Black Rose's plans in the scripts. Coincidences between the plays and the plots were slowly noticed and many Black Rose members were captured in the act. Latimer realized that he would eventually be found out for doing such a thing, so he gave the scripts to a trusted friend to deliver to the League if he were to die. When LeBlanc had eventually found and confronted him, he had explained his plan to her. LeBlanc, knowing she was cornered, was forced to give in to whatever Latimer wanted in exchange for discontinuing his plan, which was to be a member of the Black Rose.

Latimer stopped his playwriting, which discontinued any more Black Rose plots being foiled. He did, however, continue to perform, and while not always on a stage, but in an embassy, or a market, or anywhere the Black Rose had assigned, he still loved it. He especially loved it when the Institute of War invited him personally to be a champion for Noxus, and he graciously accepted, as it would be one of his finest roles.

"A bit of a standout, yes, but what would you expect from an actor?" -Mikhail Latimer

Observation

Latimer made his way down the elegant marble hallway, his long strides displaying his overwhelming confidence. His regal dark tunic flatteringly drapes his slender and fit form, earned though years of training. He stops several times as he is accosted by his innumerable fans who clamor to catch a simple glimpse of him. Ever, the thespian, Latimer grants his followers a casual wave. His golden hair is drawn back in a ponytail while his bangs hang loosely, framing his handsome face and dazzling smile.

After entertaining the public for a short while, Latimer finally escapes and finds himself in front a large set of double doors. He reads over the inscription, his raven colored eyes deep in thought. He makes a mental note to use the line in his next tragedy as he places his hands on the doors and enters into the beckoning darkness.

Reflection

Latimer was no stranger to darkness, but this time it seemed different. A chill settled about him and he shivered, his light tunic unable to give him the warmth he desired. He reached out a hand to attempt to feel his way through the darkness. His hand met cold, damp stone that Latimer recognized almost immediately. Torches flared up around him and he found himself in the tunnels beneath Noxus. Glancing around, he found himself to be completely alone. A panic began to set in as Latimer realized he had no clue as to where he was, or how to return to the surface. Frantically, he began heading down different tunnels in a vain attempt to find his way out. The further he went, the smaller the tunnels seemed to become. After squeezing through a particularly small set of tunnels, Latimer found himself in a large cavern. Confused, he took a few cautious steps inside as a commanding voice rang out clearly. “This meeting of the Black Rose is now called to order.” Latimer quickly ducked down behind a large stone wall and peered over it, witnessing a gathering of several hundred people below him. One stood in the center of the room, her elegant dress and large staff revealing her as the leader of this meeting. The scene began to swim before Latimer’s eyes and faded to black. Latimer stood and brushed himself off, grinning. “I do sincerely apologize, dear summoners. But you will hear no secrets from me.”

The darkness gave way to a burst of light. Latimer shielded his eyes against the harsh rays, blinking rapidly as his eyes adjusted themselves. Whirling around, he came face to face with an eagerly waiting audience. The crowd beamed with anticipation, every gaze fixed on the stage. His mind working quickly, Latimer strode forth and delivered his next lines. “And so I will attend her here! For too long have I vied for her attention only to draw her scorn. Have I been forsaken? Have all my pleas fallen upon deaf ears? Woe, for the tragedy of an unrequited love…” As Latimer hid his face from the crowd, he smirked to himself. He had delivered the line perfectly. His smirk quickly faded as only silence met the end of his play. He glanced up to find the chairs empty and his audience vanished. The sound of applause caught his immediate attention as the lady LeBlanc revealed herself from the shadows, her porcelain face a pristine mask of cool amusement. “That was quite the performance.” Latimer offered her a gracious bow, his eyes never leaving hers. His heart beat quickly with the combination of fear, excitement, and adrenaline. “For you, Matron LeBlanc, I would perform it a thousand times more.” LeBlanc seemed unimpressed by his flattery. “You have been quite the thorn in my side as of late. You have made it clear the knowledge you possess. I am curious as to the reason why I should not simply end your life here and now.” Swallowing hard, Latimer managed to maintain his own composure as he revealed plan. He recalled the sense of triumph he had felt at this moment, the moment he achieved victory. But that moment never came as LeBlanc’s lips curled into a vicious smirk as she held up all of the scripts he had created revealing the secrets of her organization. Smugness giving way to fear, Latimer prostrated himself before LeBlanc, begging and pleading for forgiveness. LeBlanc’s cold voice echoed in Latimer’s mind. “Why do you wish to join the League?” Latimer looked upon the face of LeBlanc and saw his future, his purpose, his reason to live behind her dark eyes. “Because it is my purpose. For my Matron, the show must go on.” The image of LeBlanc gave one approving nod as it disappeared and the doors to the League opened to Latimer, allowing him inside.

GAMEPLAY:

Latimer is a zone-control assassin... or a lockdown support. His playstyle can make it very easy for him to play in the top and bottom lanes as an assassin or a support respectively.

As a Top laner, he will rely on his W and E for a lot of damage output. Of course, his Q and Ultimate will be important, but he will focus on 1v1ing more than anything else. His W and E when combo'd together can cause a massive amount of damage, especially considering that it does more when the target is at low health. This can help deny a towerdive or just work as an engage, plus when combined with the Q blink and the massive damage from the Ult, there's a very high chance that the target will die very quickly at low levels. In teamfights, while his Q and E a bit less useful, his W and U are incredible, because he can easily make it so his team shreds through tanks while he just controls an area with his Ult. He's incredible at stopping split-pushes, though, because of his full combo. First, he either uses Spotlight on the enemy and blinks over to it, or he puts it on himself and runs up to them. The latter option is more risky, but can imcrease his damage output massively. He then follows up with his Ultimate and W, then following up with his E to keep the selected target locked in. If done correctly, the target will either be dead or so low that Latimer can just kill them with basic attacks. While Latimer should primarily build AD in the Top lane, picking up a Nashor's Tooth or Abyssal Scepter can increase the usefulness of his Ultimate and Q.

As a Support, Latimer is focused on doing AoE damage and locking down the squishy targets. In lane, while he doesn't have much poke, he can increase the effectiveness of his ADC's poke with his Q and W, his Q increasing their Attack Speed and his W reducing the enemy's armor. He can very easily disengage with his E and Q, either for himself or for his allies. Putting the spotlight on an ally will allow them to get away faster, and if he's lagging behind, he can just blink to them. His E can make it so his ADC won't take as much damage from the enemy ADC, but it will also allow him to give the ADC kills if they attack the target he taunted, due to the bonus damage at the end. In teamfights, since he will be building AP over AD, his Ult will do massive damage and any basic attack-based champions can easily achieve maximum Attack Speed. His W and E will be less important here, especially if your team is AP heavy, because Armor shred and Physical damage won't be where he will thrive. Unlike his Top lane build, you must be completely AP unless you start to carry, in which case getting some AD can be possible.

Playing against him can be very easy. His first major counter is range; if you can poke him down, it'll be harder for him to attack, plus you can potentially waste his passive. If you're someone like Jayce who can switch between Ranged and Melee, you can make his Taunt harder for him to use because he'll have to take the time to get in Melee range. Renekton can be a lane bully and ruin his day, because his Stun is a basic attack, so if he activates it beforehand, his E's damage will be significantly reduced. Maokai can very easily lock him down so he can't get away with his Blink, and Mao's 20% damage reduction can very easily make Latimer's Ult worthless.

Seems pretty interesting to me. I'd love a Mountebank style character like this. But you sealed me with the West Side Story dance. =)

That moment you realize "The Thorn of Black Rose" is actually Swain. Swain

Gosh darn it Sion Re-work promo!!! Vladimir is Petal.

Regardless of that, I really, and I mean REALLY like it. Like, seriously, his Leblanc taunt had me laughing too hard. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he's the kind of guy to wear elf ear cuffs just because.

This is a neat concept. very detailed. The overall design works well but id change the concept art a tad. To me this champion seems like a Shakespearean style actor, very loud very bash and out there. id give him a more outrageous outfit more on the lines of a modern elizabethan style clothing, a poofy style top with tight leggings on the bottom, finished out with boots. i think the dagger works very well for the style. overall id give him a solid 8/10!
