**Passive: The Gift of Warmth **

If an allied champion dies near Varia, she absorbs their warmth into her body. If an enemy champion dies near Varia while she has an allied champion's warmth before she dies or the allied champion respawns, she can right click the enemy champion's body to revive her ally after a 1 second channel with 10/15/20/25% (1/6/11/16) of their Maximum Health where the enemy died. Varia can hold only one champion's warmth at a time, and cannot replace the one she has until they are alive again or she dies.

Radius of Warmth Retrieve: 2000 Radius of Warmth Transfer: 2000

**Q: Soothing Fire **

Varia sends out a heatwave in front of her, which can hit up to two champions. If it strikes an ally, they gain a shield worth 40/90/140/190/240 (+60% AP) damage for 2.5 seconds. If it hits an enemy, they are dealt _30/75/120/165/210 (+60% AP) _Magic Damage and slowed by 65% which decays over 2.5 seconds.

Mana Cost: 60/65/70/75/80 Cooldown: 10 Range: 1250

**W: Heat Within **

Varia targets an allied champion and releases their inner heat, giving them a 20% (+1.5% per Varia's Level) Movement Speed boost for 4 seconds. Additionally, any enemy units in front of her are knocked back 1000/1500/2000 units away.

Gameplay

Playing as Varia:

Varia's protective nature means that she keeps her allies safe, but she's more than ready to use her abilities to empower her friends and help them do incredible things. In lane, Varia keeps her allies safe with Soothing Fire, shielding them while slowing any enemies that try to do her friends harm. If things go especially bad, her passive The Gift of Warmth could potentially revive her ally if an enemy dies in a trade, effectively nullifying the trade (except the gold and experience the enemy team earned, of course).

In team fights, Varia can enable her allies to charge in with Heat Within, giving them a burst of speed, but if the fight turns sour, Varia can effectively reset the whole thing with a well-timed Banish the Cold, giving her team a second chance at winning.

Tips and Tricks

  • Varia's laning power is all about enabling risks, giving her laning partner shields and damage bonuses, or giving her Jungler a speed boost to help with ganks. If things go wrong, she can always revive one of them if a fight ends in a trade.

  • Many of Varia's abilities are reliant on her allies' maximum health, so Varia does incredibly well with beefy tanks like Garen, Nautilus, and Galio.

  • If Varia's team is willing to be risky, she could lane with a lanky melee character, as Invigorate, Heat Within and Soothing Warmth allow melee characters to trade easily in lane against Marksmen.

Lore

As her peoples' final Warmth Giver, Varia's duty was to keep important people alive through the magic of Warmth. Escaping narrowly as her tribe was destroyed by the Warrior Queen Sejuani, she wandered the world, providing her services to those in need. Eventually, she discovered Ashe and the Avarosans, and offered what meager talent she had to her. Now, she finds herself working alongside great, incredible people, and while she might not think much of herself, she uses her abilities to make sure her allies live to do the incredible things she believes they are destined to achieve.

When the Vhenrach Tribe chooses a Warmth Giver, they choose a person who they truly believe is selfless and kind. Often times, they choose children, whose hearts have yet to grow dark with thoughts of hatred, greed, pride or any other of a number of sins. Those selected would then be trained in the ways of Warmth, mastering the very life force in every person. Once sufficiently trained, the Warmth Giver would be tasked in keeping their people alive, healing, protecting and even reviving those who needed it. When a Warmth Giver eventually dies, a new one is sought out and the cycle is repeated. If a Warmth Giver is suspected to harbor darkness in their heart, they are exiled from the tribe and a new Warmth Giver takes their place. There can be more than one Warmth Giver, and at one time, there are typically three.

Varia, even as a child, was an incredible loving and caring person. She believed that everyone on the planet had a reason for existing, and she wanted to help and support people do everything that she believed they could. From a young age, she was always very altruistic, making sure others got more food, warmer clothing, or a better seat near the fire. Varia was considered for a Warmth Giver on three different occasions, but she was never given a chance, one child always being seen as better or more worthy. Varia felt a little bit disappointed in herself, but she brushed that aside, thinking that if she wasn't meant to be a Warmth Giver, she was meant to do something else incredible.

Varia's parents worked butchering animals brought in from hunts. Varia did her best to become as skilled as possible with that craft, practicing with her parents while she was young, eventually reaching a point where she believed she could butcher the animals on her own. She felt happy that she finally discovered her purpose, her place in her tribe. She knew it might not be the flashiest position in the world, but she knew it was necessary. Her mother was particularly impressed with the vigor that Varia put into her craft, trying her best to master butchery; cleaning the animal for eating while also being sure to respect the animal's body and soul. And this was Varia's life for years on end, waking up, doing odds and ends around her tribe, retrieving animals from the day's hunt, praying that the animals' souls would live on, and then carefully cutting the flesh of each kill for consumption.

Things changed for Varia when she was 94 years old. Her parents were long dead, respectfully buried in furs and gifts that Varia crafted herself. Varia had seen a total of Varia hadn't had any kids, or any spouses, but she acted almost like everyone's grandmother, playing with the children, giving gifts to those who needed cheering up, cheerfully whistling while she worked doing the same job that she had been happily doing for the last eight decades. Varia didn't want to change her life for anything. Unfortunately, nobody really chooses what happens to them, for that is the job of fate.

The end of Varia's happy life began with the sound of an approaching army. Huge, lumbering footsteps as giant mounts approached their tribe, accompanied with a cacophony of screeches and shouts from the barbarians that rode atop them. Sejuani, the Fury of the North and leader of the Winter's Claw tribe lead the charge, riding on her gigantic boar, Bristle. In seconds, panic set in the Vhenrach tribe; warriors and hunters taking arms against the oncoming threat, parents trying to protect or hide their children, the current Warmth Givers, three women by the names of Afet , Margeaux, and Alauniira, prepared their magics and spell books for the fight that was to come.

Varia felt two very simple, very direct emotions: fear and sadness. Varia felt fear that her life that she'd been living could end, not that she would necessarily die, but that everyone else, every mother, father, child, person could suddenly have their purpose not be fulfilled. Varia felt sadness because she was just a simple butcher, she couldn't do anything to stop what was about to happen. Varia broke down in tears as the barbarians rode in, huddling into a corner of the tent that she took residence in, made peace with the spirits above, and waited for the world around her, her world, to go down in flames.

During the battle, Varia's tent was collapsed and buried her in a pile of ash and cloth, completely obscuring her vision. Varia didn't know when Sejuani and her savages finally left. All she knew was that she didn't hear battle anymore. She didn't hear screaming to kill or screaming for mercy anymore. Even the fires that were raging around her ceased. She hoped that she was dead. She knew that she wasn't. With some effort, her older, weaker body was able to push out of the rubble that she hoped was her grave. When light hit her eyes, she looked around her and realized the carnage that was left of her tribe.

There was no life anywhere. Not one soul was left alive, all of their bodies already turned cold, no warmth or Warmth left in them. Varia smelled blood, but not the familiar, almost friendly smell of animal blood. Human blood smelled... like blood. It didn't have any familiar memories associated with it, it was simply just bloody. She spied the corpses of the three Warmth Givers, and even they were twisted on the ground, blood caked all over their coats. Many tents were destroyed, some were burned down, but the result of whatever just happened was Varia was the only survivor.

Varia didn't understand. She thought that there was some sort of mistake in fate that kept her alive, she had already fulfilled her purpose of feeding her people during the long winters and respecting the kills that were brought in. She didn't know what she could do, she couldn't butcher for a tribe that no longer existed. Varia walked around the wreckage of the tribe, going through tent after tent, hoping that there could be some survivors. She eventually came upon the wreckage of the tent that housed the Warmth Givers and their magical tomes. It was larger and more comfortable than the other tents, naturally; it housed the most important people in the tribe. It was now nothing more than cloth and burnt wood lying in the snow now.

As she did for the other tents, she thoroughly scoured the area looking for survivors. Sometimes she wished she wasn't so thorough, as at one point she discovered the mutilated corpse of a child hiding inside a dresser. She looked underneath flaps of cloth, fallen beams, anything that might be able to hide a person. As she was going to give up, she spied a single, dusty, mostly intact tome amongst the wreckage of the tent. It was one of the spell books that selected children used to study and train to become Warmth Givers.

Varia was tempted to read the book, to take in the knowledge and become a Warmth Giver and bring back her tribe... but she knew it was futile. It takes months, years to become a Warmth Giver on the level that Afet, Margeaux and Alauniira were. Regardless, she took the book anyway, as she felt it was one of the few things that she should take to preserve her peoples' heritage. Once she swept the rest of her tribe for survivors, or rather bodies, she gathered them all and proceeded to give them all a collective funeral. Even if she didn't know all of them personally, she still felt they needed to have a proper burial. After gathering rations and supplies that she felt could last her a journey to another tribe, she set off, the only other supplies on hand were her butcher's knife and the Warmth Giver's tome.

In her spare time, she read the tome, gaining a rudimentary understanding of Warmth magic. She wasn't nearly as adept as the Warmth Givers that she's seen in her life, but over her months of wandering, she gained enough magical prowess to bring people to life, if needed. Only one at a time, unfortunately, she couldn't revive multiple people without considerable effort. She even used these powers to assist those in need of a hand on her journeys, usually asking only for food or a place to sleep in return. This was her new life, wandering the frozen wasteland that was the Freljord, hoping to find a place she could call home. She didn't expect this life to be a long one in her age, but it was all she had left.

In one particular case, she came upon a battle raging between two ferocious armies. A huge number of barbarians were attempting a siege on a larger city, being defended by warriors bearing a flag with a bow and arrow. Sejuani's armies were clashing against Ashe's, and Ashe's forces were winning. Ashe herself lead the fight, dodging attacks and volleying back with enchanted arrows, taking down foe after foe. Varia saw her and her armies, these people leading the fight to preserve life, to preserve PURPOSE... she knew these were good people, and she wanted to join them. She hoped Ashe's armies could use a good butcher.

Everyone Has a Purpose

Varia wasn't the stealthiest woman in the world; her brown skin and dark blue coat were pretty stark against the white snow. Not to mention her knees weren't exactly great for bending and crouching around everywhere. Her pudge made her a larger target to spot, in fact, that only thing that made her good for sneaking was her height, a measly 5 feet tall. Regardless, she somehow made it around the battle and worked her way over to Ashe's forces. She hoped she could speak to Ashe directly, but she knew it would unlikely that the leader of the Avarosans would want to speak to a simple old lady.

As she wandered into Ashe's forces, she was immediately grappled, holding her in place and binding her arms to her sides.

"Citizen, what exactly do you think you're doing? You realize that there's a war going on? Or is your age getting to you?" said a gruff female voice behind her. Varia strained her head to look over her shoulder to see a hulking woman clad in brilliant armor and furs, her long brown hair flowing behind her and her green eyes almost piercing deeply into her.

"Oh, dear, I'm afraid you've got everything wrong," Varia chirped with a smile, "I'm here simply because I want to help!"

The woman laughed, "Help? As accepting as Ashe, is, I'm not sure she'd want to send someone's grandmother into the fray to die."

The woman loosened her grip on Varia, giving her freedom of her arms again. Varia fully turned around to face the woman, who stood a solid foot and a half taller than her. The woman's sculpt was visible, even through her armor; she was hardened by war, and it showed in every muscle. She had a scar on her chin that reached around to her left cheek. Her nose was hooked, like a bird's, which complimented her entire hunter's aesthetic. Adorned on her chest was the symbol of the Avarosans, as well as on a large flag on her back. Varia could tell this woman was in charge in some sense, and she earned that title.

"What exactly do you intend to do to help, miss...?" the woman asked, expecting Varia to give her name.

"Oh! I'm so sorry, I completely forgot to tell you my name! My name is Varia Vhenrach. What's yours?" Varia said. She hoped she wasn't acting too cheerful, she had a habit of saying the wrong things at the wrong time and making first impressions awkward.

The woman sneered at Varia's positivity, but replied anyway, "My name is General Delphine, I'm the leader of the Third Battalion, and," she motioned towards the battle, which was blatantly going in the Avarosans' favor, "we don't need any extra help right now. If you could please find somewhere safe, maybe-"

Delphine was cut off, "Oh, I don't intend to fight! Ages ago, I worked as a butcher for my people! I won't take up much space, I just want to help where I can and do what I'm good at!"

Delphine rolled her eyes, "Look, miss, now is not the time for-"

Delphine was once against cut off by a soldier shouting, calling out that there was an arrow barrage incoming. Soldiers quickly brought up their shields, but even still some soldiers fell, causing an opening in the line. This opening let Sejuani's forces past through the walls of soldiers, where the barbarians proceeded to cut them down with brutality. Varia looked on in horror, remembering a similar set of events months ago. She tried to run away to the safety of the city, but accidentally tripped in her panic. Varia's breathing became quick and erratic as the hoarde began to approach her.

Suddenly, she was in the shadow of a larger figure; Delphine was standing in front of her, shield raised and sword ready to defend. Varia looked behind her as more soldiers rushed to her aid, and she realized now that Delphine was calling orders, giving everyone their tasks and roles needed to defend the city. Varia could have sworn she could see the Warmth in everyone around her, all uniting to defend the innocents. Varia realized just how important this person was, and this stirred action in her. She saw someone with a purpose.

Varia stood up again, backed to a safe distance, and began to cheer, trying to give the army confidence. Some soldiers turned a nodded, appreciating the encouragement from a citizen. Some where angry that a citizen was interfering. Delphine didn't react, she was focused. Commanding an army was Delphine's purpose, and she was damn well good at doing it.

As the barbarians rushed in and the last-minute clash began, blood began to spray everywhere, turning the snow from its pure white to a familiar blood red. Varia was once again unnerved, but wasn't scared this time. She knew that this was Delphine's purpose, she knew that this was going to work out. She tried to spot Delphine among the battle, and she saw her, gracefully moving about as if battle was a dance. Blood coated her armor, and her long hair flowed like water with every turn, every slash.

Suddenly and unceremoniously, Delphine was slashed across the neck with an axe, and she slumped to the ground, dead within seconds. Varia's mood instantly shifted; she couldn't let this person, who even though they just met, not be able to fulfill their purpose. Varia didn't know if this was a source of panic or fear or hope or whatever strong emotion she felt, but she held her Warmth Giver's tome in front of her, and channeled all her energy in front of her.

Emitting from the book came a wave of warm, golden energy, lightly melting the snow beneath them. The wave grew in size, eventually reaching the size of the entire battlefield, and as it passed along, the barbarian attackers were flung back. As it went over the fallen Avarosans, however, their Warmth was returned to their bodies, and suddenly their wounds were healed and life sprang back into their bodies. The soldiers stood up, shocked that they had just died and were suddenly back in their bodies. Most of them took a while before they even realized they were alive again, but as Delphine stood up, she seemed to immediately realize what had just happened.

Varia rushed as fast as her old knees could take her over to Delphine's side, to try to comfort her. Delphine simply looked at Varia with a mix of confusion, disgust, and awe.

"Delphine, are you okay? I couldn't bear to let you die like that, I could tell you had so much more to do!" Varia said, panicked.

"Miss... You did that?" Delphine spurted out, "Why didn't you say that before?"

Varia replied, "Well... it's not like I can ALWAYS do that..."

Delphine stood up, smiling. "Even if you can do it sometimes, that means many, MANY innocent lives saved."

Varia looked shocked. She'd never done anything like that before, how could she ever possibly replicate it? She'd feel guilty if she lied and said she could do it again, but she knew she had to do anything she could to stay by these people, to help these people do what she knew they were destined to do. She made up her mind quickly.

"I'm a much better butcher, but I'll do my best to keep you alive out there," Varia replied triumphantly.

Delphine laughed, "Well, then you must be a damn good butcher, then."

Varia smiled. She hoped this new life would last; a life where she helped others achieve their purpose.

It's a great concept... just maybe.. you could tone her back a bit? She has:

  • A heal

  • Two damage amplifying abilities

  • A revive with very few conditions needed

  • An AOE revive on a 72 second cooldown with 40% CDR at level 16

Doesn't that seem a little unfair to you? Other than that, it's a good concept, I like that you're tinkering with revival.

I wont be happy until there's a game of thrones reference when reviving an ally.
