Board mods need to step up their game.

There have been and currently are posts on top/hot/front (Whatever it's called) legitimately calling a champion main disabled, retarded, etc and/or blatantly inciting hatred against them. How do these posts not get removed ?

Hey Marshbouy, In future discussions regarding boards moderation, please post them on the Player Behavior & Moderation sub-board. Thanks, have a good day!

Okay. I was a little confused as to where to put this because it was highly related to the boards but it's also mainly about player behavior. Thanks for clearing that up. Do you have anything to say about it?

If they're referring to just yasuo mains like "Yasuo mains are retarded" then we'll take it as them just attacking the champ because they have trouble with it and maybe should spend a bit more time practicing instead of being salty about it and git gud. :^)

Now if they're directly telling someone they're retarded, for example "Retarded yasuo main," then this is more of a personal attack against them and would likely be removed for breaking the golden rule: Always be respectful to players, community members, moderators, and Rioters. Harassment and insults will not be tolerated.

The boards can sometimes have quite a bit of traffic so it's possible some things slip under our radar until someone either reports them or we manually detect them as we scour around. Of course as Mod Pixlr already stated we do have a discord server for the purpose of helping players through the reporting process with explanations and clarifications since the current boards reporting feature has no way of providing information other than bringing up the material for us to check out. (We're human too, information properly conveyed can help us do our job better.)

How do I discuss an issue I have with how one of my posts here was moderated with the Riot employee who moderated the comment?

We boards moderators are not Riot employees.

If you would like to discuss a removal you may do so by submitting a Support Ticket or checking out the Discord Server that has been added in order to aid in more visible moderation and be able to contact the mods for boards reports and moderation inquiries.

So you have the power to issue official warnings but not remove them?

That statement doesn't quite pass the smell test.

The warning can be disregarded and not count against you if you can show that you were not breaking the boards rules.

Even then warnings tend to weigh less as time goes by and you show that you can avoid breaking the rules and behave appropriately, and then you don't have to worry since you'll not be in trouble again.

I'm glad I have this already being look addressed elsewhere. The argument you're giving me is "You shouldn't care unless you're doing something wrong" which is the same specious, poor argument people give for why mass surveillance is acceptable.

The fact of the matter is that the warning shouldn't be there. The person that reported it even admitted the report was made as part of a misunderstanding. If the person a joke was aimed at no longer finds it as offensive after realizing that the intent was misunderstood and it is not vulgar, or targeted at any other group or topic that might be found as offensive, then the comment is, by definition not offensive and therefore not a violation of the rules of the board.

What you've presented me with is an excuse to not deal with issues of punishment that might be unjustly issued because, frankly, its harder to smite first and ask questions later than it is to smite first and ask no questions at all (the issue with asking questions before handing down judgement I think is obvious and most people can understand why this isn't done).

That does not mean that they are the only person that reported the content or the only ones that found it offensive. Once reported it is us, the mods, that will attempt to determine if it is violating the rules and act accordingly. It is also not a good example to compare this with real life examples either as boards usage is neither a need nor a right, it is a privilege.

So what I hear you saying is that my argument is not valid and that it is in fact a good thing to leave players with board violations on their records that do not deserve them because the threat of further mistakes, having already been reported, justified or not, will dissuade people from further inappropriate behavior. If that was a the case, we should issue everyone an unjustified warning to improve overall behavior on the boards. Or perhaps we should just be policing the things that are actually problematic. I, for one, would vote for the latter.

As for the role of the moderator in determining if something is against the rules or not, when someone makes a joking comment that someone else must be one of the people cheating and abusing Xerath and the other person reports them based on the fact that they thought a real accusation had been made, I think it is safe to assume that said moderator made that judgement either in haste or error. That is why the person reported me, by the way.

Additionally, I would like to ask if your pointing out that the use of the boards is a privilege is an indirect way to strong arm me into silence by implicitly suggesting that such a "privilege" can be taken away? It does, in fact, feel that way. As I understand it, taking issue in a calm civilized manner with something that has happened, either in the game or on the boards, is not outside of the user agreement of the boards themselves.

You seem to misunderstand. We are giving the boards users the means of attempting to contact us if in fact there is an error or mistake so that it can be corrected. The warnings diminish in value over time if the user is behaving because we'd like to think that they got the message and thought it would be better to just chill, relax, and be cool about it. Yes, sometimes there may be lapses in judgement when typing and hitting the submit button, but it is the individuals that often and consistently break the rules, or even just blatantly display that they do not care, that get suspended and/or potentially banned.

As far as jokes go, being a joke doesn't make it okay. There are things that are not appropriate even as jokes. Here's a small bit taken from the Universal Rules:

The Golden Rule

Always be respectful to players, community members, moderators, and Rioters. Harassment and insults will not be tolerated (“just playing” is NOT a catch-all excuse).

And no, that is not an attempt to strong-arm you, it was a reply to the example you provided that was not really quite fitting. Asking others for input would be too time-consuming in waiting for potential replies and can guarantee that some would abuse it with troll answers, plus as the quote above from the universal rules states, just playing or joking is not an excuse to being disrespectful, even if it is among friends. You are right though in saying that the issue should be taken in a calm and civilized manner, I believe we used to have quite a bit of "f*** cancer mods" and similar threads that would usually cause me to roll my eyes at them, but we DO have the player behavior and moderation boards for players to generally talk about moderation both in-game and on boards, the support ticket system as all games should have to submit inquiries, and the recent addition of discord so that we mods can have live communication with boards users.

If you still have questions specifically about that warning and content removal, I would certainly like to encourage you to use the links I originally provided, though if I read correctly it seems like you may have already done so. [slayer-jinx-catface]

I never implied that just joking makes it ok. What I am stating is that for an insult be something that is offensive, harrassment, etc as the golden rule implies, that also assumes that the person on the other end feels insulted. Currently, that person, who now acknowledges the misunderstanding, is not insulted. Further supporting the fact that the entire issue was a misunderstanding is the fact that the person who reported me and myself are on good terms.

BUT even if it wasn't a joke, levying a single accusation is not harrassment nor an insult. It is just that, an accusation. And making an accusation isn't against the board rules either (particularly when they are in open ended question form).

Uhh, just because people don't want to play against a champ/person that might possibly be exploiting doesn't mean that all these posts need to be removed.

If posts were removed for complaining about champs, the boards would be mostly silent.

Marshbouy1 votes

This is unrelated to Xerath. This is about Yasuo mains, and others, being called disabled just for enjoying a champion.

Paquay1 votes

People dislike the champ. If it isn't against the board rules, why delete the posts?

Marshbouy1 votes

So you are perfectly fine with Yasuo mains being called disabled? Even though insulting other players is outlawed on the boards?

Deep Terror Nami1 votes

Unsure what posts you are referring to, but if you take issue with a post that isn't being removed you can take it up directly with the mods in the Moderation Discord.
