I love Boards formatting. Just saying.

Sometimes positive user impressions go unsaid, so here's a 30-second thread in which I say:

  • I like the formatting options we have in Boards, which are more expressive than the rather ascetic options on Reddit. ("No! YOU WILL HAVE ONLY ONE LINE BREAK MAXIMUM! Headers? GET OUT!")
  • I like that we can embed images in our posts to add some color and visual appeal.

I think Boards is just better than Reddit at this point, at least for purposes of LoL discussion.

It looks like the Yordles finally discovered who dunked Mr. Storedle

They both suck relative to former GD.

I agree.

While I can easily see why people compare the Boards to Reddit, the formatting and set-up is much better imho.

Although I will also say the Boards formatting could use some (imho mandatory) additions like text alignment. But I know for a fact that the Boards team is aware of this and it is being looked at, so I'm content.

I have mixed feelings about it. I like how they are moving foward with notifications, and profiles on the website.

Two problems though. This is WAYYY too much like reddit. This is basically their way of making money on making their own reddit. Also, they could have done this easily, SO EASILY on the forums. They could have added all this stuff, made it all organized unlike the forums, but just keep it the same style as the forums.

I tried to make a forum for nostalgic Summoners such as me, this is more of a traditional forum. http://leagueofgd.infinigame.net/

Some of your probably just prefer traditional formatting better.

Y'know... With the way riot is handling these new boards... I've just decided to be an asshole on here... Any opinion they don't agree with gets removed for any number of shitty reasons as it is...

That said... The formatting on these boards is actually one of the worst types you can have, as it completely drops any type of coding and uses a generalize typing system to do all the editing and chat changes... And with the buttons at the bottom right of the reply that puts in the typing required to do those edits, there is literally no reason to revert to this dumbed down version that actually limits they way you can type...

It's basically like Mac vs PC... Sure these boards are easier access, but there is much MUCH less you can do with them.

I'll admit that they are MUCH easier to read than the Reddit boards.

I'm partial to the formatting as well, particularly all the boards located on the left side. I still wish there were more "sub-boards" in Games & Modes and a better color scheme (seriously, this one is bad), but it's a step in the right direction.

reddit is garbage

new boards are like garbage without the hundreds of subreddits to filter out garbage specifically by pile

still garbage

I think Boards is just better than Reddit at this point, at least for purposes of LoL discussion.

+ I like the potential of Boards markup. - ...but it's hella buggy and brittle.

+ Chronological view feature is a big upgrade for returning to previously read posts. - ...but it drops post context, turning out to be pretty low value in many threads.

+ Integrated sub-boards quite a bit nicer than loosely related subreddits for LoL. + Redtracker quite useful.

- Boards search feature is nowhere near as good as Reddit. - Reddit moderation is much clearer and more consistent. - Reddit offers more post sorts and seems better at getting me the content I want. Possibly this is a function of there being more content I want on Reddit? - Massive Reddit userbase dwarfs Boards userbase. Network effects are legit. - Boards login is more painful and less stable than Reddit login. - "Show more" is way, way worse than the Reddit equivalent. - No RESTful API for either threads or boards, makes it hard to find stuff that isn't on the first couple pages.

I would say that Boards have potential to meet or even surpass Reddit, but they're nowhere close to as functional today.

I'm getting used to it. I certainly enjoy image imbedding, as CCT stated, and the LoL champ/spell/item icons are a handy little touch of flair.

What helps me is that I can switch between chronological view and back at will.
