Can someone clear up confusion for me about skins?

No, this isn't a joke thread i'm legit confused on this.

How come Riot can do things like Lux Sailor Moon Skin Annie Alice in Wonderland skin Gnar Reptar(Rugrats) skin

and so on, but they have copyright issues if you were to do say Monsters inc annie with sully as tibbers and annie as boo A stitch skin for gnar A joker skin for shaco etc.

I get you'd have to rename (which isn't hard) and make a few changes so it's not flat out copying but whenever ideas are brought up from shows or something I hear copyright being an issue yet they're obviously taking things from other shows

They can't keep the names the same but they could do one similar to it.

However, creating skins that revolve around other games/movies/shows/etc isn't very creative in the games own way.

They do bring in related skins to keep the crowd wanting more but taking every idea from other things is very unoriginal.

They went through the proper legal procedures to acquire the rights. Some might have been rejected, or some too expensive, or some they simply didn't bother to try. Or the rights on some are open and anyone can use.
