Should I buy Gnar or Illaoi?

I want someone who has a high skillcap, is fun, and can duel well (top laner)
Illaoi looks really cool, but gnar with his poke and cc fits my playstyle better... idk.

Illaoi is more fun but her skull cap seem low to me . Based on what you are looking for I recommend gnar ether way you should w8 until illaoi ip price drops this week
It's hard to say if Gnar is in a good position in this season or not. He can't really duel 1 v 1 against most meta top laners right now. He might have poke and range but it really doesn't amount too much against people that can sustain it, and jump on him and burst out-trade him for more than he can deal unless he gets a snowball.
Illoai right now is disgustingly strong only because she has yet to be regulated and nerfed which will happen in a week or so, and her skillcap--in my opinion--doesnt seem to be as high as gnars in terms of mechanical gameplay. She's alot more auto-pilot than she seems. But she definitely lane dominates and zones alot harder than gnar.
gnar if u want to improve, that new tank if u want to have major zone control and tankyness, while still having what looks to be a good teamfight.
i think if u played alot of borh you could make more plays with gnar though, its just his kit.
