Reporting vs Muting ( pls vote in pole)

So i am not the best lol player out there, i make mistakes, i make miss plays and some times i may underperform with certain champions, however i am pretty good, in certain roles and champions. Nevertheless people will always find a reason to report you. If they think that your bad performance cost them the game, their rage will make them report you. Now people aren't stupid, they know that reporting you for being unskilled will not have any effect on you, people are bloodthirsty beasts that are hungry for punishment. So what will happen is that people will instead report you for negative attitude, refusing to communicate, verbal abuse, offensive language, harassing. This way they know that their report will hurt you way mare and match the pain of defeat.

Now this is highly immoral and yet people themselves are immoral when they are behind the safety of anonymity in a game that provides that. They have the oportunity to express their hatred, frustration, their mean selves who lust for punishment in a guilt free safe environment which allows them to do that. This is a HUGE problem for the game. Over half reports are missplaced, they are just meant to hurt you even for things you have never done.

Riot seems to rely on people's INTEGRITY, which we all know barely exists anymore in our world. People are shameless and they couldn't care less about what is fair and what is satisfactory.

So here come the argument. The disclaimer is that i know that alot of people out there are indeed worth of reporting, however evn for the asholes of the community there is a medicine. The medicine is called MUTE. Yes ladies and gents, muting works like a charm and it's something everyone knows. Before every single game there should be a message that reminds people that if you are being harassed, you can mute people who harass you.

I mean think of it this way, assume that you have a teammate who constantly types things that offend or harass you, as long as you don't mute them, they will keep doing that and it' s NO ONE'S fault but YOURS!

After all what could offend one person, may not offend others, how can you trust people's integrity in this matter, people from different cultures, countries, religions come together and play this game, how could i know what offends certain people if i grew in a culture that doesn't find that offensive???

It's like being punched in the face and even tho you can have a shield that guards you from the punches, you leave your face unprotected and keep getting punched, then you complain about being punched many times.

Last i have to say that some people are open to criticism and some others may report you for even trying to criticize them. It's happened to may a few times and it's really annoying.

So to end this, i feel like reports shouldn't have so much power as long as people can mute others. Muting is easy, free and takes no more than a couple of seconds, riot needs to recognize that we are not all the same, some people accept criticism and some don't, each culture is different and they have to realize that ,many cultures are involved with the game so trying to play referee isn't going to solve anything, it' s about time people learn how to mute and stop reporting each other. And it's riot's time to stop punishing people because others got mad with them having low skill with the game.

  1. Muting is to spare yourself dealing with certain player
  2. Reporting is to spare everyone else dealing with them.

Riot won't ban someone without actually having proof that it was a legit report. I can report someone for whatever I want. It won't look bad on them if they are truly innocent

This is known as victim blaming.

It's like being punched in the face and even tho you can have a shield that guards you from the punches, you leave your face unprotected and keep getting punched, then you complain about being punched many times.

And haven't they already punched you by the time you would raise your shield? I can't speak for others, but I don't mute people unless they've done something I would report for already.

You are going to have to extrapolate what you mean by 'culture' because the way you are using it here makes no sense. Not that it matters. Reports are for punishing, discouraging, and shaping behavior of the community. Muting is for when a player is getting in the way of your gameplay, Reporting is to prevent them from getting in your way again.

They need to just remove chat from the game and add more pings, it would fix a lot. Or make it so everyone is auto muted already then you and the other person both have to choose to chat with each other.

i like when im trolling and my teammates say for everyone to mute me. then i call out their positions to the enemy in all chat for the rest of the game and my temmates have no idea!

trolls always win.

I don't remember who said this but it goes like this: 'I'd rather have 10 criminals out free, rather than 1 innocent man in prizon' this comes to show that even if one person is punished unfairly, the whole report system is a failure. ..

Muting does nothing to reform people. Most people don't even say anything to the person they're muting, they just do it. In these cases, the person being muted wouldn't even know, so how would they change their behavior? From their end, it just looks like their teammates/enemies are ignoring them, so they keep talking to get a reaction.

A report will send a notification to the player that their actions are frowned upon.

Like i said in the reply to Alasarcher, it's more important to reform one's attitude rather that just punishing them. Some people are simply immature, not mean, you can show them what is right and what is wrong instead of showing that that punishing them is the best you can do. Being muted every single game will help you realize that people don't like your attitude and make you a better person as a whole.
