I cannot unlock a skin my friend had got me. It had a code but when I typed it in, it will say "invalid HTTP response". Does that mean I did something wrong?

it means leave the store, go back in and try again. or wait an hour and try again.

Are you sure your friend isn't trying to give you a fake code?
