I'm not going to mention my ping so that East Coast whining smartasses just downvote my thread, but it was probably more than what the game said I had, and I wasn't the only one.
If it was over about 130, you have sub-optimal internet in general. I lived on the east coast until 9 months ago, my ping was usually between 90 and 110, 120+ when my internet was having issues. My ping is now around 50-70 on the west coast, so believe me I know what it's like for you since I've lived the comparison.
When you run into problems like that, run a tracert. This can be done via the following steps:
- Open the windows menu on the taskbar and type in "cmd".
- In the command prompt window that opens, type the following:
tracert www.google.com
- Press enter.
The first hop (the numbers beside 1) is your router. If that's higher than 1 ms, you probably have a router problem. If any of the other hops are particularly high (over 100), your ISP is likely having issues or you're over-utilizing your bandwidth. You can also ping different websites and services to see how your connectivity is to them, I just chose google because it's simple and relatively ubiquitous.
This might be Riot's problem, I don't know. In most cases it's down to your internet connection rather than it being Riot's fault, however, so it's best to check that first. Something I tend to notice is that when Riot has problems my ping stays steady; the game just freezes/disconnects. This is obviously not the rule, but it's more likely for there to be a packet loss problem than a ping problem in regards to server connectivity from Riot's end.
