I want to learn lb but
am worried it will be pointless because I think she's going to get hit by the nerfhammer any week now.
anyone else think she's doomed?

isn the LCS on right now? they dont do big nerfs/buffs during tournaments so she is safe till after Worlds! Although she just might be one of the few to not have anything done with her, eg lee/zed, etc because #LCSplayz! it would ruin the awesomeness of LCS and you cannot expect to see some underplayed champs in the lcs!~
She is actually relatively strong in the current meta, and her learning curve isn't too difficult. (Riot appears content with her current strength and if a Nerf happens, it will be extremely minor, and hardly game breaking.) If you want to play her, I would strongly suggest trying it. "All champions are good, however some require a good player and or team to really succeed."
