A question for trolls

So I know part of the gig is just being nasty about everything, but this morning I was getting verbally abused for being "old" and playing league. After the usual rounds of "omg I know you're 16 now because blah blah blah" I said "no, I'm actually 32." (which is true, for the record).

This lead to not only harassment, but what I can only assume is pure delusion.

"when i'm 32 I hope I have better things to do than played League" "like what?" "bang chicks"

I guess I have two questions:

Do people think you walk with a cane after 30? I just don't get that "you're too old to play" stuff.
Do people think everyone over 30 is either sailing on a yacht surrounded by women, or a loser living in a basement? I mean, I assume rationale people know there's a middle ground.

I chalked it all up to whiny kids mad that we had an auto-locking troll in our team, but the age thing comes up every so often. Just wondering.

I myself am 31... I also have children (ones 12) about the age to be able to play games of this nature... However, i don't let him play MMO's or any other game that will allow him to receive or dish out the type of toxicity that inevitably comes with titles like this... The problem comes from parents not wanting to deal with their kids... and buys them a PC to keep them out of their hair... I wish it was not this way but unfortunately their are too many children playing internet gangster... Since the removal of the tribunal i have seen a drastic increase in toxic/trolling behavior. Please bring it back RITO.

I'm SO old, no kidding, I 'm a little older than you (RookPusher) though. I play with my husband who is older than me, I have kids who I won't let near online gaming for a few more years and I monitor their internet. Some of us have been around long enough to have been playing the first online games, played seriously, competed, hell I was playing when shoutcast first started and was a judge with OLG as well as shoutcasting matches. (I doubt anyone remembers Tribes when it first started).

I think adults play this game for fun but I also think some are serious about climbing. If you want an "old" friend, look me up. :)

19 here. Throwing out some random, unconnected thoughts I have about this.

I personally assume that with responsibility comes maturity. I do assume that you have a job, pay rent, have a significant other and possibly kids, and don't spend as much time with your friends. This game is designed around mastery and progress. It's something you get frustrated over and slowly learn to get better at. It's great for teenagers with a giant wealth of time and a lack of desire or capacity to get better at anything more substantial. Those with responsibility, adults, already have their sense of mastery and progress fulfilled from their life and work. When they want to play a game, it's generally more for fun and less for getting better.

It's hard to understand why an adult would want to play this.
