Questions on ranked vs normals

First things first, I'm a terrible player. I make tons of mistakes, take more damage than I should and struggle landing skill shots against juking players. I have the mechanical skill to make fantastic plays, but I lack the judgement to always make those plays effectively. I have good games and bad games. But if I'm having a bad game many, sometimes all of the above factors are in effect. With all of that said established I have regularly hit gold for the past 3 seasons. I'm currently avoiding ranked until the packet loss and the mac sound bugs are fixed, but I have no doubts that i'll be gold again this season.

In normals I'm constantly paired with plats(3/4 games) and diamonds(1/3 games) and while I enjoy the challenge, I'm trying to figure out why this is the case. I think it's too frequent to just write it off as players having low normal MMR. Am I just not spending enough time grinding through ranked to make it where I should be?

Tryharding in normals is actually not normal, so when you face diamonds and etc you can be sure that they do not play to their fullest capacity. It is, however, very beneficial for you if it's not your mechanics that are lacking, because if you let them make the calls, your "game sense" will improve as well, helping you climb in your ranked matches.

So - you are in your elo in both normals and ranked, and playing with high elo teammates does not mean you can achieve same elo in ranked. However, that is a really good environment for training and you should definitely play more normals with high elos to improve faster.
