The new client looks great, but its functionality and usability is terrible

Guy Fox Teemo·1/8/2017, 9:00:18 AM·90 votes·2,964 views

It visually looks amazing! But using it just feels....... terrible. Everything is under like 20 tabs in the shop, it takes forever to get anywhere. Nothing is organized well, and a lot of things in the client feel like they get in the way of things when your using them.

Also using the new chat window is a pain in the ass, having to minimize it every time, and when you do use it, it feels unorganized; Liked the old small tabs we could keep open SO Much more. I know were still in beta, but thats only for bug fixes 99% of the time. I very much doubt they will change the UI at this point.

But its still worth a shot.... New Client is shit compared to the old one in every way imaginable besides visuals, (Went overboard with how many clicks it takes to do anything)

And of course we all have to wait until Riot fixes the damn thing and makes it halfway functional before we get our 10 bans...

Ah sweet ecstasy, you're doing a good job guys.

It's also full of bugs like not refunding an ARAM reroll after someone else dodges the queue. Very annoying.

Don't forget there is a metric butt load of bugs. Ill do a list of ones I have noticed: -Top ribbon decides to go mia -IP amounts are glitched (I have about 440 that isn't actually there and never goes away) -When you go on DnD minimize the client then click on it to go back in, it takes you off of DnD -In draft mode of champ select things will randomly disappear -Clubs at the top of the list occasionally disappear -Match history tab sometimes won't load the games -Clicking on tabs is slow and laggy -And on top of that, it won't allow me to switch back to the old client... now im held captive in a world of bugs

Item sets when?!

ZT Xperimentor1/8/2017, 9:20:12 PM7 votes

And that's why nearly everyone in beta still uses the old client, lol. To be serious though, yeah it's bad; sluggish to load things, missing options, ext.

The only things I can't stand are the laggy responses to button clicks and the Masteries just freezing when you're trying to set one up before a game. It's even worse because the two above problems are a combined issue. Clicking on each Mastery tab freezes the screen for a solid 3 seconds and then sometimes the whole thing straight up refuses to work and you have no idea because by default it takes forever anyways so you can't tell the difference.

THANK YOU, this is how i feel about it exactly, I don't know what they were thinking with this client, 4 years in the making and this is what they deliver, too late to complain though but the real feedback will come in once they take the legacy client away and force people to use this new one, like my entire friends list refuses to use the new client , I just got tired of always selecting legacy client

Synnx71/8/2017, 11:56:01 PM3 votes

Theres not even the animation for when u lvl up a champion or get any champ points. I switched back to the old one

Raven Redeemed1/8/2017, 5:47:18 PM3 votes

At this point, there is no reason for you to use the beta client if you don't like it. I agree that the shop can take a while to navigate, but that's because everything is organized (catagorized by tabs). Im not quite sure why you don't like the chat. The window is pretty much the same size, I don't know why you think you think you need to minimize it. The only down side I can think of is you can't have multiple chat windows open. There are multiple ways in which the new client is superior. Less processing cost on your cpu, faster response between tabs, detailed champ ability descriptions with scaling values (though physical damage still needs work), and the ability to reorder runes and masteries.

The store feels almost unusable because of how many things you have to click on to try and find what you're looking for. It took entirely too long for me and some friends to find where they hid the Name Change option (5 minutes or more as I recall). Everytime I'm trying to find something in the store it feels like it takes 6-10 clicks to find or get to it.

I also hate how they hide the game's chat room. Want to view the post game graphs and talk about it? Too bad, hope enjoy clicking back and forth. Want to edit masteries before the game? Hope no one says anything important (or changes their pick), because you won't be able to see it.

The old client felt like you were free to look around and do things, the new one feels like you're running a maze and hitting walls at every turn.

Imho, too there was too much change for the sake of change. Why the shit did they need to move the play button for one thing?

But yeah, It takes way longer to get anywhere in the new client.

Corrupt Bliss1/9/2017, 9:09:51 AM2 votes

It's definitely a lot slower and more confusing. Legacy client all the way.

And friends wonder why I haven't switched yet...

EndlessSorcerer1/8/2017, 6:59:12 PM1 votes

I've just been using the legacy client for everything except reordering rune and mastery pages,.

Hopefully, the issues are resolved before I'm forced to switch.

aspects11/8/2017, 11:22:55 PM1 votes

and its so crashy, buggy, and slow, its practically unusable. if riot forces us to use the new client in the state its in right now, im prob gonna quit this game

JustARivenMain1/8/2017, 6:37:12 PM1 votes

I'd love that the new client could get a option to lock it's place, as I have everything in specific areas, and if you click the top tabs too fast (lobby and such) while moving your mouse you'll just move the entire client. Isn't bad if it's a few times, but i realized the entire 1/5 top of the client is the area to move it...

Miku Append1/8/2017, 6:05:53 PM1 votes

It feels incredibly clunky, laggy for no given reason, and just tries to look unnecessarily hip. Reminds me of how meh Paladin's menu is.

jama6551/9/2017, 12:18:56 AM1 votes

is no one else laggin on the new client? like literal client lag and you miss a pick and dodge??? and i would like the ability to minimize my friends list and extend the cool ass parts of the client BUT ohwell

legacy sounds cooler anyway

Soraka Dreemurr1/9/2017, 12:20:37 AM1 votes

I went back to the old one too. The Beta client just doesn't work.

MonkeyMadness1/9/2017, 3:42:05 AM1 votes

I felt this way too when I first patched my PBE client, but I figured out get downvote-spammed for shit like "you just aren't used to it yet". Well, when Riot forces us to use the same shit for like 5 fkin years, yes, I am quite used to it...like in the worst way...

DemoGuide1/9/2017, 6:46:56 AM1 votes

Its SO FREAKING SLOW! In old client i can change my masteries/runes/spells in 3 seconds. In new one, oh god, i spend at least 7 seconds on them, if i need only keystone switch. Feels awful. Also, it has many stupid design decisions. Like you mentioned chat tabs, i feel like its among the worst changes they made, alongside with permanent friend list on the right side. Old client had really good features, and really good implementation of these features. Overall, new client require too many extra clicks, and that also makes it feel extra clunky.

Secretlolz1/10/2017, 6:12:10 AM1 votes

I have a very bad computer and the friggin client consumes more resources than the very game. I don't even know how they managed to do that

Danjeng1/9/2017, 12:58:34 PM1 votes

Also, for the newer players, the ability videos for champions might be confusing. They changed the ability videos on the new client, and many of them do not demonstrate what the abilities do (for example, no health bars). Runes have a sleek minimalistic design, but their icons could be confusing. The new client is just too overwhelming for me.

I deleted LoL, then I reinstalled it again, just to get back to the legacy client.

Smitty Manjensen1/9/2017, 1:18:31 PM1 votes

Anyone else can't switch to the old client? Whenever I click it it just closes and nothing happens. Tried repairing and still nothing.

DEmperor951/9/2017, 10:17:47 PM1 votes

To be honest the new client feels cluttered with oversized menus and buttons and a lot of missing features (where are my ranked stats?) It looks cool, and the visual effects are nice, BUT it couldn't be further away from being "slick" you know, it feels oversized and complicated with a bunch of stuff being misplaced or missing. But hey that's just my opinion.

Jesse Pinkmân1/8/2017, 10:21:04 PM1 votes

Thats the reason I went back to the old one cause its better lol look up how to do it without having to click it everytime its quite simple
