The Butcher Blades had hung the Jackdaw from a rusted marlinspike through his jawbone and left him for the quayside scavengers.

Sure I'll put it into 6th grade English for you.

Gang A had stabbed a member of Gang B with a giant rusted metal stake through his jawbone, and left him there to be eaten by birds, rats, and any other scavenging creatures that might come by the side of the wharf.

Okay, I'm in college and I have never once seen the words "marlinspike" or "quayside" unless they're in Moby Dick and I forgot. Mister "I'm gonna make this guy feel dumb by googling the terms myself."
