Reward Honor

For a game that will only permanently ban you for something unrelated to your performance in-game, it seems backwards that the only thing you get for being exceedingly good to people is a ribbon on your border.

There should be special skins for ribbons, like with Rank. 1 skin for each ribbon type, corresponding to the ribbon color, for only 4 champions. They wouldn't need to make any more and they wouldn't need to be particularly amazing skins.

An honor from a friend is worth 1/3 the regular honor, so you'd have to play three times as many games as usual to exploit that at all, vs. simply queueing up with a diamond smurf friend to get the season reward for rank.

Being a good member of the community should have just as much weight as being a bad one.

Edit: It seems some people don't understand: I'm not saying that "not being banned" should be rewarded. They already do that. They gave out a free mystery skin and a free champion last year (I got Lord Mordekaiser--my 3rd Mord skin huehuehue, and Karma). I'm asking that being HONORED have a reward.

you shouldn't need a fuckign skin to be a decent person.

and bribing toxic individuals to fake it does nothing to address the actual problem. then we'll just get passive aggressive toxicity

no. just don't be an asshole and you wont be banned

There's mounds of evidence to prove that rewarding positive behavior leads to better outcomes than punishing negative behavior.

Toxic individuals aren't going to change regardless, but changing how they act in game, even if they're "faking it" (news flash; EVERYONE is faking it), solves the issue on the only level it can be solved--the actual observed behavior.

As long as they're going to make the game competitive and reward winning, they cannot avoid people wanting to win,

Passive aggressiveness is heaps better than hate speech.

Oh, and I edited the OP for your lack of understanding. I'm not saying that "decent" people should be rewarded. Anyone decent is just anyone who's still allowed to play. An honor ribbon actually takes being nice to people, whereas being allowed to play simply takes not talking to people at the least.

Toxic individuals aren't going to change regardless

yes, they are. They do. Or they keep getting banned and we have a better game without them. I got a 14 day ban because i was a toxic asshole. Now i'm not. Doesn't matter if my bot lane goes 0-10 now, i'll never harass them for it.

but changing how they act in game, even if they're "faking it" solves the issue

here I must disagree with you. I've climbed to plat 3 from my initial placements at silver 5 two seasons ago. at first i couldn't get out of silver, I kept thinking to myself , in my head, these fucking idiots are holding me back. I improved my individual skill so i could solo carry myself up to gold, but those thoughts remained. I lingered in mid gold for a season. This season i was able to climb to plat 3, and im still going. What changed ? I no longer think my teammates are worthless fucks. Even if theyre bad, i work with them, but i never harass them, NOT even in my head.

Rewarding a toxic individual with a skin just because they haven't verbally abused anyone doesn't change them for the better. They will still harbor nasty thoughts about people and that affects other people but most importantly its highly toxic to the toxic individual themself. Other people can shrug off their abuse, they have to wallow in it.

An honor ribbon actually takes being nice to people, whereas being allowed to play simply takes not talking to people at the least.

ok, that is fair. I misunderstood you then, and that is a fine idea. in my experience though, no one actually gives out those ribbons. I got about 200 of them the first couple months that system came out, and now i get maybe +1 honorable per 5 games I play. Most people just don't seem to care if you have a very positive effect for your team. I like your idea now, but sadly all I can see is people artifically honoring each other to attempt to gain free skins.

It's a nice idea, i just dont really see it being able to be implemented in any real sort of way

they keep getting banned and we have a better game without them LoL has the largest, and proportionally the worst, community of any online game currently. It doesn't make sense for them to ignore that fat by continuing to punish people instead of adjusting the aspects of the game that lend to negative thoughts.

Rewarding a toxic individual with a skin just because... That's actually exactly what they've already done. They gifted people free skins and champions for simply not being punished, and it had nothing to do with them being good.

And third, the difficulty in actually getting that much honor is exactly why I'm suggesting this. It's not like reports, where 3-4 hate speech reports can get you permanently banned; it takes many, many games of honor to earn a ribbon-- potentially many more than it takes to rank up.

I don't want to see champion skins that are sold exclusively to ribbon holders. There will be people coming in and exploiting the honor system for profit through "botted" accounts which negates the integrity of the system in the first place. The old "refer a friend" system was notorious for giving incentives for third party companies to flood the system with botted accounts in order to get rare skins only to sell the accounts for a profit.

No, instead if Riot does anything about the honor system they should allow ribbon holders to get a 10% discount off non-legendary skins. It is an incentive that is nice to have but not ground breaking and it brings in extra cash flow to Riot. That's better than honor exclusive skins.

Not sold exclusively; given exclusively. Like Victorious skins given to Gold V players who ranked up by queueing with friends and exploiting the system in that way.

I pointed out how it would be hard to exploit, and that would be much easier to track than refer-a-friend simply because there are many legitimate ways to get a ton of refers without botting, and chat logs can show whether or not someone was actually being friendly in a game.

I do like your idea, but they probably wouldn't go for it. That's 10% less profit they'd be making from anyone with a ribbon, vs. either 1 or 4 skins with a quality equivalent of around $7 each that they'd give to honorable players like the Victorious skins. They'd lose much less money.
