I really hope Riot isn't just saying this to temporarily appease us.
Buying Chromas with IP

Players who see the value can buy chroma packs, and those who don't can enjoy a little more variety when they see their teammates and opponents using them."
I agree that Riot deserves to be paid for the work that goes into their free game. I totally get that. But... Chromas are cheap and very simple recolors. I have spent my fair share on this game but Chromas seem like a perfect opportunity for unlocking through the Champion mastery. Sure, Chromas for a skin should remain as RP as people are more likely to spend money on something they have already invested in. Basic champion models however should have at least one Chroma linked to champion mastery. Reach max Mastery with a champion and then spend a few thousand IP on a Chroma for it. PERFECT!
I have worked in retail. I have dealt with consumers. I know that "All options are still open in the future" can easily be a way of saying "It's not going to happen but keep waiting for it" without flat out saying it. I know Riot needs to make money (they already make a very sizable amount of it) but I do not believe that a Chroma unlocked and payed for by IP will hurt their revenue in any way. If there is any worry, set a cap on how many Mastery Chromas an account can have. Give every champion a free chroma and allow each account to earn 5.
I have a friend that has bought damn near every new skin for the past two years. She has spent a ridiculous amount of money on this game and even she thinks some Chromas should be free. "Just when I thought I didn't spend enough on this game. Now I can buy skins for my skins. Really wish they were IP though."
I just really hope all options really are open and Riot isn't just saying that to tide us over for now.
