The meaning behind a name

Oi m9,

I really take a liking into what names mean. And Riot, being the brilliant bastards they are, are usually very clever with how they name their champs.

Now, I am wondering if anyone has a theory behind a certain champion's name that they would like to share with us on this here thread.

On my side, after googling a couple of things, I figured this out:

Zed's name is, from what I think, derived from an old, old french word: Zede, which literally means ''weapon''. And I just LOVED how it fit him perfectly.

Also, a pretty obvious one is Vi, which means ''force'' in latin.

Mordekaiser literally translates as Death Lord in German.

I've tried to look for a meaning to Sion's name and I could never figure anything out. The closest I ever got had to do with the Zionists, who are orthodox jews who think Jebus is going to respawn on some holy hill or some shit like that. Can't recall too clearly.

What theories do you guys have?

Sona's name comes from ancient roots as well, Latin I think but can't be completely sure Think sonar or utrasonic

I found out that my name of Taric is a variant of the Arabic name Tariq which means "Morning star." Seems fitting now that I have ascended into the stars themselves.

And the name Ezreal's name is a variation of Ezreaeli which is Arabic for "The Archangel of Death" which really does not seem like a solid representation of my boyfriend.

There was a similar thread about this topic on Reddit. Reddit is worse than wikipedia when it comes to credibility but I figured you might find it interesting so I will provide it below: https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/1dogz3/champion_names_and_their_origins/

Edit: They got my name wrong in that link. "A person who hammers" is not what my name means. It means morning star. I verified this with multiple sources and it is definitely morning star not "a person who hammers."
