PSA: you will get a lower ranking after placements

DREADN0UGHT··116 votes·35,354 views

What? Did you think diamonds masters and challengers just magically regained their rank after placements? Of course not. They get high gold low plat. So where are the plats at? In low gold. Where are the golds at? In low silver high bronze. Where are the silvers and bronze at? You guessed it! Bronze!

So stop freaking out. Just play, have fun. And you will ryze again. [slayer-jinx-wink]

If that is Riot's plan, don't waste people's time with the "Placements" Just dump us all down a division and call it a day. The amount of preparation I put into each game (as a support main) trying to get a best team config at champ select, playing my heart out over 10 stressful games, with the hope that i can get out of bronze via placements....... to win 7/10..... and then get sent to the LOWEST possible Tier........ just to start all over again.....

..... IS WASTE OF MY FUCKING TIME......

Just say: "Hey summoners, we will be sending everyone down a division, and to the lowest tier of that Division. Enjoy S6".

i wouldn't like that, but at least i wouldn't be wasting my time....

..... and then they wonder why ppl are so toxic. It stars with your TOXIC policies - Riot !

I can understand your frustration as i was once in bronze 5 myself. I can acknowledge that its the worst, most hateful place in League of Legends.

But think of it this way: bronze is filled with the most unskilled people in league (no offense), so if you are truely as skilled as silver elo, then you should stomp most of your games and climb out easy.

Some people say that in order to smash through bronze, you need to be able to carry teams consistently. So if you're a support main, just play brand or sona. Grab easy braindead champs and just stomp everyone.

I was bronze through all of season 3. I learned. And now i'm passed it. just believe me when I say the moment / i stopped tilting and focuded on MY mistakes, i got out of there.

The point is all of the games (especially promos fuck promos) you have to play simply to get back to where you were. Let's say you go from silver 5 to bronze 5. Now assume you have high MMR so it takes you 3-4 games per division and then 2 promo wins. You have to play an extra 25 or so games assuming you win every single game in a row, it would take a lot of luck even for a diamond smurf to win that many in a row.

Mythril Phoenix4 votes

There is a large problem with your logic. You see, you are expecting those trash, as you identified them, players to actually care. Every single promotional series I have had for the last 2 seasons have been riddled with afk's, feeders, trolls, etc... I have literally gotten to my promotionals lost 2 immediately because of 2 afk's both games, and then won 2 more games which put me right back into promotionals and had another afker. I don't care how good of a solo player you are, the game is designed to prevent people from single handedly winning a game.

Yeah thats is one of the things i was confused about also. I main Support and I've been studying this game for about 3 months now. I even record Rank matches with Skin Spotlight replays and go back to watch them so i can see all 10 players per match. I am a student of the game and i learn everyday. So I found myself getting ready for placements and i also went 7/10 and thought i would place in silver or maybe gold. Problem i was stuck with i didn't know about this MMR System because i am only 4 months into this game. I thought New Season meant Brand New! 0/0/0 clean slate and i would be able to seed high and play with silver and gold gamers. But I am still in Bronze, and now i have to climb up out. For me what is Discouraging is the MMR System, and not being able to start over fresh for the new season.

DREADN0UGHT3 votes

If you have been playing the game for 4 months only, its only normal you got that result. Keep learning the way you do and in no time you will be climbing

oO5 Dynasty4 votes

Thank you for the comment and information. I'm a keep studying the game and i wont give up on my climb. Thank you again!

I have 5 rules I always like to remind myself:

  1. Mute the toxics
  2. Focus on the things you can change
  3. Don't fight on equal grounds (Thx Sun Tzu)
  4. Objectives > farm > kills
  5. Wards win lanes, winning lanes wins games

Well provided you're not really low down the elo chain then placements actually do make a difference(not a crazy one, but they can). The difference is how far down you fall though. Don't expect to place up into silver from Bronze, it's not going to happen. I do need to tell you though, if you're really good enough to be in Silver...you will be. 2 seasons ago I was in your position, my placements dropped me from mid Bronze to B5 with 0 LP. Maybe you can hold your own a tier or two above where you're at, but it's time to focus on what areas you're failing at and where you can improve. That's what I had to do, and it's really payed off for me. I'm currently at high silver low gold (I haven't placed yet but I ended the pre-season at G4) and it's all because I've always thought about what mistakes I make every game and how I could have played every fight better (including fights that we win, and fights where my teammates make mistakes, there's still things I could have done better).

I understand it's really frustrating, and if you don't want to, normals are a good place where you don't have to worry about how you play. IF you want to be serious about ranked though that's the way to go about it

Verxint4 votes

Here's an idea

Don't mentally invest into your 10 placements. It's just not worth it.

yes i mean WTF RIOT I WON 7/10 MATCHES AND GOT PLACED IN FKIN B4 WHAT THE FUCKKKKK (srry 4 the swears but im so pissed -.- )

I logged in just to reply to this.

I am a Diamond 5 Support Main who climbed from Silver 5 to Diamond 5...

Honestly, the reason they make you do placements is that you could suck more ass then you did last season. Let's say you ended Gold 5. Well, with all the new patches and preseason your play level is around Silver 5. Well, they are going to put you down there and see if you can climb back to where you were. If you are actually at the level you think you should be, being placed low shouldn't be a problem.

This is honestly my own opinion but I think everyone can agree.. like Yes it sucks to have to climb back but thats why we play this game. Most of us reach our goals I.e me is d5-d1 and then stop playing until next season

I was about to post this. Everyone's getting the same treatment. Is it a good system? That's debatable. But everyone is getting the same treatment, and seeing 30 posts about it in an hour isn't all that great.

I got from gold to bronze 1 and im not even tilted lol. Im pretty sure ill be in gold 2 weeks from now.

People are overreacting

ZeeWolfZ5 votes

With the new system, every bronze will be Gold now. They are literally babying you until G1

oO5 Dynasty3 votes

With the New System, riot is helping low level gamers fight the obstacles they face with getting to the high divisions. Such as Feeders, Toxic gamers etc... I can keep going! So its not babying its a system put in place to bring balance to the game. I do not know you at all, but i will assume your in a high division. If this is the case, how about helping low level players instead of saying they are being babied. We can only grow as a community if we help each other.

ZeeWolfZ4 votes

Your way of thinking is correct. However, I'm not excited to have less experienced players in The wrong ranks. It's not an issue for me, I'm fortunate to sit in Diamond (i'll start the climb again in 6.3, too imbalanced right now).

I believe Gold Rank will be at it's worst, bringing lucky bronze and silvers into rank that they are not ready skill and knowledge-wise, but because the system Forgave them the losses with free promo wins. I disagree with catering to low elo, but at the same time I understand the motive. I'd feel better being in gold and continue on playing, while dusting in bronze i'm most likely to quit.

Everything good has it's downsides.

oO5 Dynasty1 votes

I see your point, and i honestly think we need a section on the LoL website that goes in depth with training videos on how to play this game. It is Soooooooo much information that you need to equip yourself with that 90% of the gamers don't know about. If I for one didn't have a platinum friend tell me about the game and give me the general basics about the game, I wouldn't know anything. We also need the high level games to help low level gamers. We need to grow as a community!

i get this, but scoring near perfect should never get you the bottom of the barrel. ever. id have rather got demoted to b5 instead of placements, so my 9 wins i got would have gotten me to b4 or 3 at least. some of us really got shit on hard man.

TG Yammy9 votes

Its a waste of ppls time. Just do what they have to without the Charade of a worthless "placement" experience.

Sinth10 votes

Apparently going 9/10 gets you from Silver 4 to Bronze 2. What a joke. What's the point of placement matches if they don't mean anything?

What's super frustrating is that now I can't play ranked with my friends where were Gold last season. I guess maybe once they finish their provisionals and get dumped into Silver I can play with them again? Rito please.

001100019 votes

Unfortunately, this type of system, makes people not care about the provisionals...

Because no matter how good you do or don't do, you are basically going to end up a tier down...

GG Cheers m8!

TheRealJudicator6 votes

So if you go down in rank no matter how well you do in placements........wait for it.........why did I have to play 10 ranked games that don't count?

It seems like every time i come back to the game, I crawl from the muck of bronze 5 to b2, then get sucked back down to 5 because surprise, it's placement time again.

z14GaKI7TO5 votes

I went 8-2 and went from S3 to B4 but I mean, I'm gaining over 30 LP a win which means I'll probably skip a couple divisions on my climb. I do however wish I straight up just got Bronze 4 and the 10 matches I played went towards my climb. I've put in 12 games now, winning 10 of those, which means I would've already been Bronze 2 instead of B4 59LP. Rip

CheftoniFTW4 votes

Yeah... But the amount of work I put into getting out of Bronze 5 to rise up to Bronze 3, then be shot down back to Bronze 5 isn't exactly what I would call "progress".

You have not experienced the crazy shit I saw there...

oO5 Dynasty2 votes

Keep fighting man, i believe in you!

DeynaTaggerung3 votes

I dunno about OP but I have. If you got that climb earlier then you've got good odds of doing it again. There's a lot of people in Bronze and jumping divisions actually means you're getting better than a lot of people and if you're on a B3 level now you should be able to climb out of B5 at this point. I climbed my way out of Bronze and Silver (from B5 0LP from placements). Your work wasn't to waste, you learned, you played some crazy games, you experienced the game. Good luck in your climb

Cheese Pope4 votes

What about the new people who just got level 30? Win 3 games no matter how hard you feed you get Silver!

I feel like this game caters to braindead casuals more than to people who actually use their brains to play the game.

Has everyone forgot that this is a NEW season?

Does SKT-1 get to have a game advantage in rankings simply because they won worlds last year? No. Should you be placed at Challenger/Master/Diamond just because you were in it last season? No. You have to PROVE yourself because it's a new season. Almost everything is different from last season. At the same time, should I be punished for my rank the season before? NO! This is a new season and new chance to PROVE yourself. They don't call it RANKED because they hand out free rewards. You are competing against EVERYONE in NA at this point to reach a level.

If you win, someone has to lose. That's just the nature of the game. It's competitive and new people join while old leave. Everyone should be glad it's not like some competitive games where you literally start back at 0 (aka Bronze V) and are expected to climb all the way back up to that rank again. At least for all of us, we don't have to climb from Bronze V, we only have to climb from a division below us (usually). And for people placed in Bronze V, you should be able to climb up to your division you ended at if you really deserve that division this year.

tl;dr: This is a new season. Why should it matter where you finished last season? Everything is changed and you shouldn't get an inherit advantage in rank just because you did something when the game was different.

You have the most pathetic ranking system ever, regarless of how well you do in your placements i still get placed lower than my previous division seriously need to work on some proper MMR and division rating.

Lugg3 votes

I totally agree that's how it works. HOWEVER, I still think it's complete BS. It makes no sense to punish people who have improved on their game the previous season and climbed only to be knocked back down.

If nothing else, everyone should start fresh each season and your initial placement is totally dependant on your amount of wins. 0 wins=B5, 1=B3, 2=B1, 3=S5, 4=S3, 5=G5, 6=G2, 7=P4, 8=P2, 9=D5, and 10=D1. This would be a MUCH better indicator of where you actually belong.

This really was bullshit, I literally was trying my best to win the most game to get atleast bronze 2-3 won 6/10 and got sent to bronze 5 seriously Riot how could you do this? What's the point of that? you want us to feel the pain of being bronze 5? or what? I was angry af at that time.... So i would apreciate an answer. Why have you done this?

@Galactic Maru Hey I was silver 1 last season and I climbed from bronze 3 to s1 and almost getting gold but I still can't comprehend why we are doing provisionals all over again if the inevitable for us (silvers) even though we worked so hard to get where we were. Being a support and top main I always run into the same problem afk or troll or players who just feed and are having a bad game. I don't think we will be able to improve by playing in the same ez division over again and maybe simply going one rank or two so I don't think we should do provisionals anymore even though they are a core part of this game I just don't think it's fair to us low tier (bronze-gold.) Anyways please get back to me thank you for your time in advance.

God Went MIA2 votes

This is fine and makes since for Gold or higher players getting placed in Silver, as they are going to be put with almost entirely former gold players, however for people who ended high Silver, it ends up putting us in low bronze, where we play with people who have been bronze 5 for years and couldn't go any lower in placements. Trying to escape this chasm of bad is killing me slowly every season.

Unfortunately individual performance metric are not used to help determine ranking. This is widely considered to be one of the flaws with the way the system operates. Sad but true, the only thing that matters is winning or losing.

I'm not sure if KDA should affect anything in the first place. Some split pushers end the game with a 1< KDA but can on occasion almost single handedly win the game.

I've always been of the opinion that, if you are ranking players individually, than individual performance should matter. Since its hard to quantify, as you stated, what individual performance means to a match given the context and circumstances of it, I proposed a solution back in season 3 where your performance in match was compared to all players playing the same champ and role as you across all skill levels and that every action taken by you would calculate a match score rating that would be displayed at the end of the match and that this score could then be used to manipulate MMR and LP gains or loses. We basically got the first half of that, verbatim to the system I proposed, with the addition of the champion mastery system more than a year ago. Sadly, Riot chose not to include the reason I proposed this system and it does not interact with the MMR and League Systems at all. It's my hope that in the future improvements will be made to it and we may one day see it help influence MMR and LP gains and losses so that players performances can more accurately reflect their skill level more quickly. Only time will tell.

With the new champ select and the assigned role I would think they would be able to utilize in-game accomplishments as part of the ranking system similar to what you described there. Prior to this new champ select I would imagine it would be difficult as champs move around quite a bit between jg supp top etc...

That is an excellent point! They could indeed use that stuff to help incorporate champion mastery scores into the ranking system. Excellent idea mate! Take your +1. You earned it.
