There isn't much diversity in the champion itself, but there is a diverse cast of champions.

In VainGlory, almost every (if not all) "Hero" can practically use Crystal which is our equivalent to Ability Power. That being said, they can also transition over to Weapon very easily, which is our equivalent of Attack Damage. And in the same sense, they can go into a more tank or support role and still do what they need to do, so the items actually make them more durable.

Its practical that a Hero made in the game would be more tanky and/or have more to support the group than say a Hero meant to jungle or stay in lane. But it doesn't stop you from trying to do it anyway.

Seeing this, I can say that there are a lot of Champions that can be diverse in roles, but even at that I can't say that they are by much benefiting from straying from the norm.

This game is already too far in with over 130 Champions to try and accomplish what VainGlory is doing but I wouldn't want to brag about making diversity when I don't see many people taking Champions to different roles like I did when I started about 3-4 years ago. Riot also can't brag on diversity when Trinity Force has yet to be reverted to offering AP to Champs again. Lots of AD heavy champs could use some AP for their one ability that uses it just to give it that bit of damage it needs (like Yasuo's E, or Graves' W, or even Udyr with his W and R).

I'm glad we don't have a bland one not role to play (like the Support with its wide cast) but when you nerf certain Champions to the point they are too much of a hassle to use, it does also lead to a less diverse crowd and that's a waste of the amount of Champions you made.

When a forgotten Champ is made popular again (like Sejuani) I'd actually like to see it happen for a few months. In stead of saying you are making a diverse crowd of Champions, prove it. Where are the champs like Aatrox or Urgot? Why does it matter what Support you use? Why do you even need to have a jungle? I've played many a Team Builder match where I didn't even have a jungler and we would win. I even once was apart of a all mid push team that focused mid lane the whole match... and we won in record time.

I don't mind you taking the time to go through how you make a diverse group of Champions for probably the third time, but please make sure that you understand that only a handful of them get used and that to truly make it diverse many hard to use Champions should be made easier to use. Sometimes, you need to just give things time to settle in, like Soraka having heals that only take mana. If Soraka didn't have her % health cost on her W, would she see more play... compared to her current rate, it would spike but even then many supports would stick with their mains unless she proved to be better.

I had one match where I faced off against a Sion in bot lane (as the ADC). My ADC had the hardest time against that, and as a Taric (my early game being weak) I couldn't do much for him. My shields weren't strong at all. My heals did nothing. But I still liked seeing someone use something other than a marksmen to fight. Goodness, I'd even like to see Yasuo come down bot more.

This is kind of the diversity I imagine. I know its a bit much to ask for but with it being a rare sight to see, and with Team Builder never coming back, I can't see much creativity happening here.

I agree with many of your regrets, but I don't feel it's entirely Riot's fault.

As for this:

Where are the champs like Aatrox or Urgot?

Being reworked. They don't do anything but fix glaring glaring bugs on champions who are in the rework pipeline.

(I know they aren't on the champion update schedule, but that's also because they don't know when everything will come out relative to other things, and some updates are iceboxed to work on something else, and sometimes kits are still being tested, ect.)

It was nice of you to share your thoughts though.
