i hate the pro-gamer vs athlete argument
first off, lets point something very obvious out. you cannot be a professional gamer as that is an OXYMORON
second off, why when questioned about the legitimacy of professional gaming does this counterpoint always come up? "well anyone can be a professional athlete too "
no. they can't. REAL athletes that play REAL sports professionally train their bodies to their peak. it takes years and years of working out, years of picking up fundamentals, and comes with a price of your physical well-being in some cases.
while i admit not many people are as good as these guys in the LCS and Worlds at league, but to say that it's harder to be a professional gamer than it is a professional athlete or bodybuilder has got to be the STUPIDEST thing to say.
i've seen plenty of people on the boards say it, i've seen plenty of people in game say it. its stupid.
also lets be real here. these professional gamers are pathetic. i dont care how much more money they make than me. to be a "professional gamer" is basically saying "i never want to grow up, be a responsible adult, and have a job in a RESPECTABLE work field"
these guys in the past/present LCS that have been professionally gaming for years are going to wake up one day and realize that their job is completely pointless and stupid in the grand scheme of things. one of their regrets towards the end of their life is going to be "wow i wasted a good 6 years of my life playing a video game"
i honestly think most of these pro gamers save for the few who were smart enough to get a college degree with the money they've earned are useless pieces of garbage that honestly contribute nothing to society other than encouraging people to sit indoors and do absolutely nothing with their life.
tl;dr professional gaming is as much of an oxymoron as saying there's a wet fire burning. keep games as games and professions as professions. clicking a mouse and mashing a keyboard on a game is not professional.
